Artist(s): Ellie-Grace Summers, Billy
Title: Call On Me
Genre(s): Pop
Length: 4:05
Writer: B.Holmes, C.Hudson, E.G Summers
Producer: LosOscuros
Label: Studio 60
From The Album: MANTRA

Call On Me is a song by American singer-songwriter Ellie-Grace Summers featuring British singer-songwriter, Billy Holmes, now known mononymously as Billy. The song was released worldwide on May 4th 2019 and serves as the lead single from Summers' long-awaited third studio album, MANTRA. The album is finally set to be released in summer 2019, marking 7 years since her last studio effort. The single also marks Ellie-Grace's first musical release since the 2014 standalone track, Tumble. The song sees Ellie-Grace progress from her typical country music roots, incorporating elements of disco, synthpop and dance music into the single. "Call On Me" has been noted for it's retro styling with many comparing it to popular 1980's music. The song is structured as a conversational piece between Summers and Holmes, as they reveal their thoughts and feelings to one another. "Call On Me" is about two lovers who intended for their arrangement to be no-strings-attached, however, they soon find themselves infatuated and obsessed with one another. Production was handled by LosOscuros while the track was written by Christopher Hudson, Ellie-Grace Summers and Billy Holmes.

The track was originally recorded in 2017 with a slightly different structure, melody and some lyrical distinctions. Before its release, the song had to undergo an overhaul in sound as it found itself at the centre of controversy before even premiering. Christopher Hudson had written the core of the song while LosOscuros produced the demo. Hudson, a famed songwriter, sent the rough track out into a pool for labels and artists to shop. Unbeknownst to Studio60 and Summers, British-Azerbaijani recording artist Lincoln had already locked down the track and began to work on his own version. Summers and Holmes were not made aware of this until the mixing and mastering stages of the song. To avoid legal battles, Studio60 and Summers conceded and let the track go. Proud of their work together, Ellie-Grace and Billy decided to rework the track and create a new duet. Almost a year later, Lincoln let the song go and offered it back to the pair before passing it over to anyone else. Ellie-Grace accepted the offer in part; taking just the original beat and placing her own new lyrics and melody over it.

Initial critical reception of the song has been positive upon its release. Emmy Rei from Entertainment Weekly called it a "welcome return to form for the singer-songwriter", and believed it to be her most "sleek and polished" offering to date. Hannah J. Davis from The Guardian declared it as "Fun, chic, sexy yet nostalgic and a little raw". She went on to say that "While the track is clearly written as a sensual pop banger, something about the breathy vocals of Summers and Holmes, the yearning in their voices and the hauntingly beautiful 1980's inspired production complete with booming drums and dreamy synths make this feel like a total "dancing with tears in your eyes" floorfiller." Erin Vanderhoof of Vanity Fair called it "pretty unexpected but well executed" and praised the collaboration between Summers and Holmes. Writing for the Los Angeles Times, Gabriel Lynch stated that the collaboration was initially seen as a "highly unlikely combination" and that "fears of Billy out shining Ellie-Grace on her own track" had arisen. He then went on to say that "all doubters have been proven wrong" and praised the chemistry between Summers and Holmes as well as their vocal deliveries.

CALL ON ME

Too scared to take the stand, can I fall all in you?
Top it with a cherry, give me a taste of your tattoos
Keep bucking at the knees but it ain't my first rodeo
Hazy mind but I still wanna rock with how you roll
How did I get so wrapped up and in this position?
Go ahead and hit the ignition

I should know better, I hate this conflict
My heart and mind wrestle like us under the covers
Gotta get myself together, stitch by stitch
But I want you to kiss me up until I recover

I will be the one to haunt you in your dreams
I will be the one to watch over as you sleep
I can be the little secret that you can keep
Come on make me weak, come on make me freak
I'm on the line so uh, uh call on me whenever you want
It's all for you so uh, uh take from me whatever you want
Uh, uh call on me whenever you want

Look in my eyes as you trace your fingers on my neck
We said no strings but now it's all hands on deck
Travel from my city lights down to your country roads
Too much is not enough, keep repeating until we overload
Two souls on fire burning up and ready for demolition
Go ahead and drop the pin to your location

I should know better, I hate this conflict
My heart and mind wrestle like us under the covers
Gotta get myself together, stitch by stitch
But I want you to kiss me up until I recover

I will be the one to haunt you in your dreams
I will be the one to watch over as you sleep
I can be the little secret that you can keep
Come on make me weak, come on make me freak
I'm on the line so uh, uh call on me whenever you want
It's all for you so uh, uh take from me whatever you want
Uh, uh call on me whenever you want

It's so intense living in the middle, laying with him
Ain't it better than yearning on the outside, looking in?
Get so caught in his strobe lights that nothing makes sense
Well put on your dancing shoes and let's do it again
I'm giving it all up, you can call on me whenever you want
Let me reciprocate, you can take from me whatever you want

I will be the one to haunt you in your dreams
I will be the one to watch over as you sleep
I can be the little secret that you can keep
Come on make me weak, come on make me freak
I'm on the line so uh, uh call on me whenever you want
It's all for you so uh, uh take from me whatever you want
Uh, uh call on me whenever you want

I will be the one to haunt you in your dreams
I will be the one to watch over as you sleep
I can be the little secret that you can keep
Come on make me weak, come on make me freak
I'm on the line so uh, uh call on me whenever you want
It's all for you so uh, uh take from me whatever you want
Uh, uh call on me whenever you want
