Label: Starr Records Formats: CD, Digital Download, Vynil The Arcanum Cirlce is the debut album from Swedish Extreme Metal band, The Enlightened. It was completed in a short time: the work started back in August 2013 and the swedish trio entered the studios in January 2014, in March of that year it was already recorded, mixed and mastered. The album comes with 12 original songs including an intro and an outro. The album is availalbe through Starr Records in five formats: Standard CD, Limited-Edition Digipack CD, Digital Download, Standard LP, Limited-Edition 7" Picture Vynil. The album's first single, Shadows, was released in March peaking at #5 in the airplay charts and at #22 in the digital downloads charts, selling over 440,000 copies until now. The second single, Ascension To Abyss was released one month later, in April and peaked at #11 in both, the downloads and the straming charts, since then it has sold over 500,000 copies world wide and hit the gold status. Arcanum was recorded from January to March 2014 at the London's Rever Music Studios and was produced by british producer, Bill Owens. Talking about the music, the album is a mix of different genres. The band practices mainly the Black and Death metal styles, mixing them with Progressive, Symphonic, Orchestral and Neo-Classical music. Tom Orgsen, vocalist and guitarist, said that the album marks 'an unprecedented combination of melody and brutality'. Lyrically, the band aboarded a lot of different themes, there are songs based on books and novels (about works of H. P. Lovecraft, for example), personal experiences, invented stories, mythological and hystorical stories, etc. The first half of the album is mainly based on the Illuminati, meanwhile the second part is mainly based on H.P. The title is the latin for 'New Order Of The Ages', it's a phrase that appears on the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States. Anyways, the phrase is sometimes mistranslated as 'New World Order' by people who believe in a conspiracy behind the design. The band, obviusly, uses the 'New World Order' for its lyrics and is the prequel to Conspiracy. Musically, the song features different chorous and a drum-battle-march before the exposion of extreme-metal-influenced guitar riffs and solos. "This is the intro to the album, it begins very quietly and calm with a lot of orchestral and symphonic melodies, but then is when all hell breaks loose...Very heavy distorted guitar riffs and drum blast-beats work as a prelude to the real first song on the album. It has short lyrics about the illuminati conspiracy." Lyrics: Servants next to Abaddon, from the chambers of reflection, of one altar and worship, in unholy communion. It talks about a possible world-wide conspiracy by The Enlightened. Musically, the song is one of the most-brutal tunes of the album, highly-influenced by the Black metal style and with a big work of orchestral elements, it's a heavy and dark hymn to the Illuminati. It features a lot of blast-beats and very low and heavy guitar riffs and a mix of growl and deep vocals alongside some choir arrangements. Lyrically, the tune is based on the Siwa Oasis Oracle that was visited by Alexander The Great. "Oracle is a heavy and dark mid-tempo song, it's highly influenced by Blackened Death Metal style, it's a more 'basic' song because it does not features so many orchestral or symphonic arrangements. Tom Orgsen made one of his best performances as vocalist on this tune, mixing deep growl, clean and loud vocals. In this song the band made a strong use of keyboards which were played by the producer, Bill Owens. "ITAOL is an extreme metal anthem...This song has a strong progressive and classical influences and we used a lot of orchestral keyboards to achieve a dark atmosphere. Talking about the lyrics, this is one of the few songs on the album that is not based neither in the illuminati or some bibliographical work, I wrote the lyrics thinking about some personal ideas...It's an original 'story' of a man that has lost his faith in god." It goes from slow-tempo to mid-tempo and blast-beat-drums with a main work of the lead guitar, in a very classic-heavy-metal style. The song has a lot of unexpected tempo-changes, a strong use of keyboards and orchestral instruments, and some elements of industrial metal. The band pick up again the illuminati theme for this lyrics and it's a sort of third part in the saga which started with Novus Ordo Seclorum and continued with Conspiracy. "Demonic song. I will say that it's a weird song, with a lot of sudden changes that are realy unexpected, in a very progressive style. It's one of the most orchestral-driven songs on the album and we used a lot of different instruments and samplers to achieve this sound. Musically, it's one of the most-melodic and most-progressive-influenced songs on the album with a high prominence of clean-lead-guitars and a mix of clean and growl vocals. Anyways it's still a very heavy tune with a lot of fast-tempo parts and deep-guitars riff. "I really like this song, that's why I chose itstitle to name the album. It's a very melodic tune, with a great importance of the clean-lead-.guitars and the piano melodies that can be heard backwards. The song marks the most-progressive approach of the album with a lot of pseudo-classical elements and clean vocals." It's a heavy and deep tune with a very dark atmosphere but it's highly influenced by classic Extreme metal sound. It doesn't feature so many orchestral or symphonic arrangements and it's more a direct-heavy-metal song than the others. The lyrics of the song are based on 'The Whisperer in Darkness', a short-sory written by H. P. Lovecraft which was published in 1931 and is a blend of horror and science fiction. "This song is really different from the others, it's really influenced by Melodic Death Metal style with a high work of classic lead guitars and growl vocals. It hasn't any orchestral or neo-classical elements, it's like a 'pure heavy metal' tune. Lyrically it's the first Lovecraft-based song on the album but not the one. It's based on Lovecraft's 'Dream Cycle' and is the second chapter in the 'Lovecraft saga' which was started with Whisperer In Darkness and will continue with 2 more songs. "I think it's one of the most-ambitious tracks I ever written...It's based on 'The dreamlands', a vast alternate dimension which can only be entered via dreams. This dreamlands are divided in four regions: West, South, East and North. This song is specifically written about the South Region, home of the isle of Oriab and the areas known as the Fantastic Realms. There is where the Ngranek is. The Ngranek is a towering, extinct volcano, a real Abyss...The song itself is divided in two parts: "The Madness Of A Man" is the introduction to the story, it's about somebody planning to reach the Mount Ngranek, and the second part "The Ascent" is about the Ascent itself. And about the music? It goes from slow to mid-tempo, an epic piece of orchestral metal music. We used a lot of samplers, effects and a lot of different instruments, like the piano and cello." Musically, it has several orchestral and symphonic elements, mixed with blast-beats and loud-guitar-sound. Lyrically, the song is based on 'Cthulhu', a fictional cosmic entity that was created by H. P. Lovecraft and first appeared on 'The Call Of Cthulhu' in 1928. In that work, Cthulhu is described as 'A monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind.' It has some spoken lines and the lyrics are a reflection about the human existence: life and death. "This is a short orchestral outro, it was a great way to finish the album in a more 'easy' way than a metal song...It has some beautiful melodies and you can hear a man speaking, thinking about life and existence, making questions to hiself. Tom Orgsen, leader of the band, said: "There's a new version of Arcane coming soon: The Tour Edition! As you may know, we're going on tour this year to get The Arcanum Circle to every fucking country and we are going to record some tracks at some special shows for this Tour Edition of the album. This edition will feature 2 CD's, the first is the normal album and the second is going to have 4 or 5 live recordings plus 2 other bonus tracks, is going to be amazing! The release date of this version is coming soon, first we are going to confirm the tourdates. As we said on our official web, our label Starr Records is now closed so we're looking for a new label to release a new single and this special edition of Arcanum...Thanks for your support and stay tuned!" The Tour Edition of the album is planned to be released somewhere between September and November of this year, featuring live recordings of the upcoming Arcanum World Tour.
