Bad Blood

Lyrics

If I could fly, I would, I would
If I could turn back time, I would, I would,
I don’t wanna die, but I should, I should,
Because I made you cry, Bad Blood, Bad Blood.

I know that I did the wrong the thing, I lied,
I wanna know how I can make it up to you, I tried,
I just want for us to go back to how we used to be, you cried,
I know that I hurt you, but give me another chance, I died.
My heart is in pieces, but I know yours is worse,
I should’ve controlled myself, seen you first,
I don’t want for you to remember me as just a jerk,
I loved everything about you, but I don’t want you to hurt.

If I could fly, I would, I would
If I could turn back time, I would, I would,
I don’t wanna die, but I should, I should,
Because I made you cry, Bad Blood, Bad Blood.
If I could fly, I would, I would
If I could turn back time, I would, I would,
I don’t wanna die, but I should, I should,
Because I made you cry, Bad Blood, Bad Blood.

I’m not hear to beg for your forgiveness,
I just want you to know,
That I think you are the very best,
And I just don’t know how to show…

The way I’m feeling towards you girl,
I got my head in a mess, a sort of swirl,
My hair’s a mess, and I can’t sleep,
I just wanna move on from that feeling that’s deep
Inside of me, that I know I did wrong,
Why did I do it? Crazy like King Kong.
For fuck’s sake, I’ve messed up big,
I didn’t realise how much I’d miss
You, you are the one, the one I love,
And now I know you’re an angel from above,
But all I’ve got, is bad blood,
Because I’ve gone and been a major fuck up.

Description

A fast tune is plucked on an acoustic guitar; it includes a variety of notes which allow this listener to get a feel for what Sammy Griffin is all about very early into his first song. The tune repeats itself, but this time there is the occasional strum which could not have been played at the same time; this suggests the use of a loop pedal. The small tune and strums come around again, but this time Sammy lightly beat boxes to give the song a slight beat to it as well.
The backing music goes quiet and then Sammy starts to sing the first chorus. As he reaches the final repetition of “Bad Blood” the looped music comes back into play. Now Sammy starts to rap the first verse. This is an unexpected twist on what many people would have believed to be purely a singing acoustic artist, but he shows his versatility now by pulling off a quickly rapped, tight verse.
Now the song goes into a double chorus, which still has the backing music behind it, but Sammy is also playing the tune on his guitar an octave above what he already did to give it a slightly different sound. The double chorus comes to a close and the backing music stops, leaving Sammy playing his guitar to himself. He now starts to sing a four line verse, which is sung with the utmost delicacy. He holds the last note and then drops straight into the next verse.
The last verse is again rapped like the first one, but his flow is tighter than before. The backing music that Sammy created at the start of the song is back again now and supports his vocals very well. The backing music stops, and Sammy is left playing his guitar again as he reaches the penultimate line. Then he also stops playing to rap the last line of the song over nothing. He finishes and then gives one final strum.

The Truth

Lyrics

We got close in a week; I liked your style,
I liked your voice; I listened for a while,
I chilled and relaxed, and got close to you,
But what I didn’t realise, is I didn’t know the truth.

The truth, it seems, is a magical thing,
It hits and it hurts, but it makes me see,
All of the bad things, which are surrounding me.

We spend more time together and I realise,
Your world and mine were about to collide,
I held on tight, and buckled myself in,
And now it seems that my heart is filled with sin,

The truth, it seems, is a magical thing,
It hits and it hurts, but it makes me see,
All of the bad things, which are surrounding me.

The life that I once had has now disappeared,
And it seemed like all my problems had cleared,
The worries which surrounded me had all been a mess,
But now I just feel myself close to your chest,
I held on tight, and now look where I am,
I’m here with you and I don’t plan –
On ever leaving your side,
Even if one of us was hurt or died,
I’ll be with you forever even though you lied,
And I will still be here just watching the tide.

The truth, it seems, is a magical thing,
It hits and it hurts, but it makes me see,
All of the bad things, which are surrounding me.

Some bad stuff happened and I realised,
The world that I thought was dead to me survived,
But I need to believe so that I can achieve,
Anything that I see or want to receive.
We broke up and my problems were over,
I didn’t like it but at least I was sober,
Things went down hill but then they got better,
But I don’t think I could ever forget her.

The truth, it seems, is a magical thing,
It hits and it hurts, but it makes me see,
All of the bad things, which are surrounding me.

A couple of weeks have passed,
And my life has moved on fast,
But then it all happens again,
And my life is struck by the pain
You text me first “I miss you!”
I text you back “I miss you too!”
But within the week that’s it we’re through,
All because you don’t like the truth.

Description

A slow plucking starts to build up, and then a quick strum is heard. This is played again but then Sammy strums twice in quick succession. He then plays the plucking with one strum again; and then again with the two strums. The music continues like this as Sammy start to sing the first small verse. His voice is soft, but hard enough to make it sound like he is almost rapping. The vocals on the track are good, but the song hasn’t been mixed very well.
Sammy finishes the first verse and leads into the chorus where he switches to a faster paced strumming on his guitar. His voice is quite powerful and really allows the listener to get involved with the song. The chorus is quick and leads pretty quickly into the second verse; which is sang over the same one strum two strum tune that was used at the start of the song.
A second chorus is sung, which leads into the third verse of the song. This verse is actually rapped. The one strum two strum pattern is used here, but it is now quickened up, to help keep up with the pace of Sammy’s rapping. His lyrics are rapped with such feeling that they must actually mean something to him. This helps to make up for the bad mixing.
The next chorus is very much the same as the previous ones, and again leads into a rapped verse. This leads to another chorus which leads to the final verse of the song. The rap is slower and more meaningful than any of the others, and ends with a strum of the guitar. Sammy plays a small outro on the guitar which fades slowly out.

Cassie: You know, I like to sit back and study artists and I've been studying you for a while. Your voice is truly unique and your songs are always fantastic. I personally think that you are a musical genius when it comes to your thoughtful lyrics and productions.

The Right Direction

Lyrics

What we got is true Love,
What we got is sent from above,
What we got is beautiful, like a dove;
And all that we need is a little shove,
In the right direction

You told me that I need to go,
To find a better place,
But all that I need to know,
Is when I'm next gonna see your face,
You can't try to fight it,
There's no point in denyin',

What we got is true Love,
What we got is sent from above,
What we got is beautiful, like a dove;
And all that we need is a little shove,
In the right direction

I never tried to be a Romeo, But you're my Juliet,
I only wanted to hold you close, but still as of yet-
I haven't succeeded, I'll keep on trying,
Until my world is bleeding, and my heart is dying,
We can last forever, no more crying,
We can be together, get those eyes drying,
I'm done with regret, done with the lying,
And by the end of the night, I wanna be flying.

What we got is true Love,
What we got is sent from above,
What we got is beautiful, like a dove;
And all that we need is a little shove,
In the right direction

Description

This song starts with a simple tapping on the guitar, and then a slow tune starts to build up. Sammy’s voice slowly starts to come from through the music; his voice blends beautifully with the music, helping to send a relaxing vibe to the audience. The song is not lyrically a fantastic song, but the way that Sammy puts it across again helps to make up for this.
The first verse comes around, and Sammy slowly sings the verse quietly into the microphone. His voice doesn’t stand out massively, but the effect of the music still makes the listener want to hear what he is saying. He sings the last line of the verse with more power which leads into a second chorus.
The second chorus is much the same as the first, although it has a stronger, more powerful feel to it. It is louder and slightly faster as well, helping to show the progression of the song. This faster second chorus helps to pull the song into a rapped verse which is far more audible than the previous verse.
The rapped verse is lyrically much better than the rest of the song, yet still not top notch. The last line of the verse goes straight into the chorus, leaving no time for a listener to lose interest in the track. The final chorus has again more power to it, and Sammy sings the last line over nothing and holds the final note for about 10 seconds before stopping.
