Portrait is the compilation album by Isabel. The album was was released on October 30th, 2020 through Studio60 Records. It contains singles from the singer's past albums and EP as well as fan favorite album tracks. The album was carefully described as a 'collection' rather than a 'Greatest Hits' album since it does contain songs that were never released as official singles, spanning from 2011 to 2020 with her latest release Eat You Up. It serves as her fifth studio album and the first since her last album, All Eyes On Me, in 2014.

After a 5 year hiatus, Izzy returned via Instagram Live to announce that she would be releasing a new album towards the end of the year as well as a new song a few weeks later. She also stated that she had been enjoying her time away from the spotlight and took a much needed break from recording and touring, as she was always known for her very dedicated work ethic. Since her debut 12 years ago, the singer hadn't taken much of a break longer than a few months before releasing new material and announcing world tours. She also talked about the personal struggles she faced as she revealed she had several miscarriages and her and her husband, former leader of Faking Our Own Destiny, Joseph Simonsen (Joey Starzzz) were taking much needed personal time with one another and enjoying married life.

On August 31st, she released the lead single, Eat You Up, premiering it at the 7th annual Fan Choice Awards as the surprise headliner. It marked Izzy's first live performance of the single and the first live performance from her in almost 8 years. The song would also go on to debut #1 on the Airplay charts and stayed there for 2 weeks. The song was met with high praise as it continued a mature sound for the singer. On the 10th of October, she released the music video which accompanied the single and accumulated 100 million views in less than a week. She also performed and acoustic version of the song on AfterDark with Cara Zayn which will be available on the album also. The album was primarily produced by Gia Rose-Hilton, Sunny Monroe, and Isabel herself, along with many others.

The title, Portrait, comes from Izzy seeing the album as a representation of her career throughout the years.

"It's one of the reasons I've always taken my music so seriously because I wanted it to show who I was. I know there's not a word or beat or even emotion sometimes that can express how you feel but I think these particular songs are pretty close. I carefully chose which songs I wanted to be on the album and it shows the different sides of me. It shows all of these different factors that have made me, me. When you put it all together, it tells a story. It shows how much I've changed, grown up and became my own person. You can clearly hear the difference as well. I am private but I like to tell my stories through my songs. Each song has a memory that I can look back on and I hope that the fans can also. It's also me trying to close this chapter of my life. I can confidently say I am not the same person I was 12 years ago so I need new songs, new lyrics, new music to express who I am and try to navigate this second chapter that I'm currently in, which I think will be the fun part. And I think it can be like that for fans too. Hopefully, we can do this again in another 12 years (Laughs)"

Description: The song starts out sounding like a techno song but leads into an electric guitar with a simple beat. This song is about a girl who is having a bad day and the only cure for her is to hear her favorite song being played in the club. She’s begging the DJ to play her song and he doesn’t listen at first but eventually does. This is a great dance/club song with a catchy beat and chorus.

Dance the river is there to rise
Dance touch me and close your eyes
Dance the winds will touch your feet
Just dance and dance feel the beat

[Verse 1]
Don’t really care what you say
I’m not listenin to you
I’m playing my music if it’s the last thing I do
You can go try to hide
You can go try to run
You’ll never escape it by the time that I’m done

[Bridge]
People everywhere have fallen
To a new kind of crazy drug
You can hear the words callin
So go ahead and get the plug

[Chorus]
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
Blast my music, won’t you blast my music
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
Blast my music, won’t you do it for me

I’ve had a bad kinda day
And im lookin for an escape (Blast my music)
I know you wanna see me dance
There’s just no other way unless you (Blast my music)

[Verse 2]
Just let the beat play
And see those hips move
I’m guessin I finally got through to you
Turn the lights down low
Get a couple of drinks
Tonights not the night to care what you think

[Bridge]
People everywhere have fallen
To a new kind of crazy drug
You can hear the words callin
So go ahead and get the plug

[Chorus]
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
Blast my music, won’t you blast my music
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
Blast my music, won’t you do it for me

I’ve had a bad kinda day
And im lookin for an escape (Blast my music)
I know you wanna see me dance
There’s just no other way unless you (Blast my music)

Blast my music(x4)

Dance the river is there to rise
Dance touch me and close your eyes (Close you eyes)
Dance the winds will touch your feet
Just dance and dance feel the beat! (Oooooh yeah!)

[Chorus]

Released: August 8th, 2011
Format: Digital Download
Recorded: 2010
Genre: Syntpop
Length: 3:16
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Isabel Merjos
Producer(s): Gia Rose-Hilton, Isabel Merjos

Description: The song starts off with Izzy singing softly and the tempo is slow but picks up when she sings the pre-chorus. She sings mostly in soprano during the Bridge and a low alto during the Verses and Pre-Chorus, showing off her vocal skills. Even though the song is slow, it can still be danced to and has a techno feeling to it. The song talks about being with someone who says they love you but when things get rough, they end up doubting the relationship and leave all the problems up to you.

[Verse 1]
I've tried to run away
From my mind
Back to yesterday
But it follows inside

[Pre-Chorus]
Everyone's telling me that I should give up
That I have no chance and there is no luck
But I feel like that I can make it
I dont wanna give up
No don't wanna give up
Don't wanna give up

[Chorus]
Baby hear my plea
I was doing this for you and for me
I don't know what to do (oooh)
It's killing me inside
Should I just wake up? (up,up,up)
Have I filled my cup? (cup, cup, cup)
Is it too much for me?
Or is this all Just a Dream?

[Verse 2]
My heart needs an S.O.S
It can't save itself
It's literally beating right up out of my chest
Why don't you help?

[Pre-Chorus]
My conscious is now becoming so much clearer (clearer)
I wish I had this sense before, much earlier (Oh no)
But now I'm ignoring you since you're
Just a waste of time
A waste of time
You are a waste of tiiiiiiiiiime!

[Chorus]
Baby hear my plea
I was doing this for you and for me
I don't know what to do (oooh)
It's killing me inside
Should I just wake up? (up,up,up)
Have I filled my cup? (cup, cup, cup)
Is it too much for me?
Or is this all Just a Dream? (Just a Dreeeam)

[Bridge]
I've been waiting (Waiting, Waiting)
For tomorrow (Ooh, Ooh)
Trembling in fear
For all that sorrow
Will your colors become clear?
Or will you cower?
Will you leave me here? (Heeere)
Without a chance to survive?

[Chorus]
Baby hear my plea
I was doing this for you and for me (For you and for me)
I don't know what to do (oh, oh, oh, oh)
It's killing me inside
Should I just wake up? (up,up,up) (Should I just wake?)
Have I filled my cup? (cup, cup, cup) (What else will you take?)
Is it too much for me?
Or is this all Just a Dream?

Dreeeeeeeeeeeam
Is it all Just a Dreaaaaaaaam?
Whoa, oh, oh
Just a Dream

Released: September 30th, 2011
Format: Digital Download
Recorded: 2010
Genre: EDM
Length: 3:34
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Isabel Merjos, Mykaylah, Ada Larsen
Producer(s): Ada Larsen, Gia Rose-Hilton, Buzz and Hype

Description: The song starts off with a simple repeating keyboard beat to it that gets louder and then goes into the full beat with Izzy singing in a sort of auto tuned voice. She then raps the first part of the verse with Ada singing in the background and they sing the pre-chorus and chorus. The next verse Mykaylah raps and Izzy is heard singing in the background. She sings the chorus with Ada and then Izzy raps the next verse and the song kind of slows down. Mykaylah sings the bridge and then Izzy comes back with the chorus. The song continues to play with Izzy singing and then fades out. Then Izzy is heard laughing and then she says "This one's for Dominic!" This song talks about when someone is always negative and trying to ruin your fun. It also can be used as someone trying to ruin when you are trying to hook up with someone.

Released: 2012
Format: Digital Download
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Electro-house
Length: 3:28
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Gia Rose-Hilton, Isabel Merjos
Producer(s): Gia Rose-Hilton, Isabel Merjos

Song Description:

The song starts off with a bass like synth and keyboard. Izzy sings in a medium toned voice as the song sounds like it's picking up. It's followed by some drum beats as Izzy's voice gets louder and into the chorus, the song takes a dance like feeling to it. The keyboards and synths are becoming more noticeable as it goes back down as she sings the second verse. The song has a sort of dramatic, dance sounding to it matching with Izzy's vocals which really compliment the beat. When Izzy sings the part "Take a walk from the shadows", her voice has an echoing affect that fades out. The beat changes it's tune in the chorus, picking up more synths and bass. As the song comes to a close, the beat calms down to the way it started in the beginning of the song, with Izzy singing in her soft and now high voice, holding the last note while the song fades out.

Quote:
"In This Life is a song about basically letting go. It's for every woman, man, child, teenager, anyone, who is just afraid to do things or try new experiences. It's basically telling people to let go and just be a free person because we only have one life and we shouldn't waste it. We should be happy and always enjoy each moment as it comes. It's for that girl who's being talked about in school or that guy who is being bullied because of what he wears or the lady who can't seem to find what she's looking for or the man who just has given up hope on life. I think everyone should come out of whatever they are going through and see that sometimes life gets hard but we should live our lives to the fullest with no regrets. If you live your life in fear all the time, you'll miss out on all the great and wonderful things that life has to offer.

Gia is one of my favorite producers and she just seems to know what sound you're looking for without even telling her. I've recently became a fan of House music and it's just so invigorating and energetic and that's the sound I want to make with my new album which this single will be on. I want my album to be that album you listen to when you're down or when you need a good song to pick you up or you wanna dance and feel amazing. I feel it's my duty, especially as a female artist, to help and create positive and true messages for people to listen to."

[Verse 1]
You can't win, You can't fight
Until you realize it's your time
In this life, In this life
All those years, All those cries
Someone comes and wipes your eyes
In this life, In this life

Don't be afraid, Take a ride
You've got nothing left to hide
In this life, In this life
Don't lose your sight, Don't lose your mind
Everyone will start off blind
In this life
In this life

[Chorus]
Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!
You Know, You Know, You Know
(In this life)
Whooa! Whooa! Whooa!
(Take a walk from the shadows)

[Verse 2]
If you don't seek, You'll never find
The hidden glories of your time
In this life, In this life
You learn to walk, You learn to run
You'll learn to fight without your gun
In this life, In this life

Don't walk away, Don't hesitate
You have to learn to pass the hate
In this life, In this life
I know your weak, You can't survive
But no one can easily just get by
In this life
In this life

[Chorus]
Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!
You Know, You Know, You Know
(In this life)
Whooa! Whooa! Whooa!
(Take a walk from the shadows)

I can't live, I can't soar high
If you won't be my wings to fly
In this life, In this life
In this life

Description: An uptempo song with heavy beats is how Izzy has chosen to present her latest single from her third studio album. Starting off with an electronic synth like sounding noise, the heavy beats are then introduced into the song while Izzy is singing. The song takes a shift when she starts to sing the chorus, giving it the full dance and club feeling as she belts out the chorus. As she sings 'Lights go down', repeatedly, you can also hear her vocals in the background singing, 'Ohhhhhh'. Chloe's slick flow is one of the highlights in the song, even addressing the issue with Allura Silk who made a diss record about Chloe, also mocking her with a photo comparing her to a geico with the line, 'Silk ain't so slick I liked the photo/Thought you would win but not really though.' She has a little auto tune used in her voice as she sings the last line of her rap. Izzy then jumps back into the song singing the chorus, wrapping up the song.

Quote:
"I believe me and Chloe together made an amazing party record! Her rap skills and my singing skills really bounced off of each other and then the production, it was just amazing. I asked Chloe to do this song with me because I knew no one else could sound as good as she does on the track so I'm really fortunate she agreed. It's no secret I love her as an artist and as a female rapper so lots of love and girl power on this track.

The lyrics are basically somewhat simple. I wrote about someone who loves me and ultimately saw the best in me, so he's kind of the hero I'm referring to. When you get to the chorus, there's kind of another meaning within the song. Basically almost similar to what In This Life was about, motivating people and getting them to come out of their shells to have fun. It's saying people sometimes act differently when there's no spotlight or light shining on them or when no one's around so they feel free and can act care-free. I'm typically a care-free person whether someone's looking or not but I'm all for having fun and living life to the fullest."

[Verse 1]
Lovin, Lovin, Lovin never felt so good
Thinkin bout the things that you said you would
Do for me, yes do for me
Not to do to me, I don't wanna be that girl

My body is a temple and you've praised me
Something like a hero tried to save me
Always be that miracle no one did see
To come whisk me away

Can you
Feel it?
Feel it?
Feel it?
Take me away

[Chorus]
We feel so alive when all the lights go down
We dance like a fool not caring who's around
Show me what you do when all the lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
We feel so alive when all the lights go down
I feel on a high and I'm not comin down
Show me what you do when all the lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down (Ohhhhh)

[Verse 2]
First you, First you have to quit
Worrying, don't think of it
Let them cry and have a fit
The best advice that I could get

My body is a temple and you've praised me
Something like a hero tried to save me
Always be that miracle no one did see
To come whisk me away

Can you
Feel it?
Feel it?
Feel it?
Take me away

[Chorus]
We feel so alive when all the lights go down
We dance like a fool not caring who's around
Show me what you do when all the lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
We feel so alive when all the lights go down
I feel on a high and I'm not comin down
Show me what you do when all the lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down (Ohhhhh)

[Bridge]
I can't imagine life without you he-e-ere (Without you he-e-ere)
I can see the light
It's getting cle-e-ear (It's getting cle-e-ear)

[Rap]
(Wooo!) Turn the lights off, yes turn the lights off
All haters fall cus I'm not goin soft
Silk ain't so slick I liked the photo
Thought you would win but not really though
I once was lost but now I am found
And I-I-I-I never fell off still got the cro-o-own

[Chorus]
We feel so alive when all the lights go down
We dance like a fool not caring who's around
Show me what you do when all the lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
Lights go down
We feel so alive when all the lights go down
I feel on a high and I'm not comin down

Released: April 21st, 2012
Format: CD Single, Digital Download
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York
Genre: Pop, Soft Rock, R&B
Length: 4:41
Label: Studio60 Records
Written By: Isabel Merjos, Gia Rose-Hilton
Producer: Giovanni Rose-Hilton

Song Description
The 2nd single from Izzy's third and new album which is set to come out this year, "Sleep At Night", is a soft rock ballad with R&B and classical music influences. The music is described s as having "a pounding heartbeat, twinkly piano and swooping strings", and as having "somber piano, crashing drums and hand-claps". The piano and string arrangements "roll mournfully" over the percussion.

The song talks about Izzy not wanting to go on without revisiting the past and getting over it, find a sense of closure. In the first verse, she talks about leaving the person 'cold hearted' and starts to say things the person spoke to her before the break up, which is what the song is obviously about. Some might even say the song is about ex boyfriend Kato. In the pre-chorus, she expresses how it's hard to control who you love and it's addicting sometimes but you just can't fight it. The chorus is when the strings and percussion really hit heavy as Izzy sings in a soft, powerful voice unlike any other. She also expresses her wish to make things right and to move on from this aggrievement the two share. Izzy is able to tell a beautiful story through this song, who it's addressed to? The answer is foggy. Izzy has been known to write about other past boyfriends, which one? We have no clue.

It's clear this is another hit, hopefully, for the team of Izzy and close friend/boss/Producer Gia Rose-Hilton. The two have worked together on numerous hits in the past which have done impressively well on the charts. The two quickly began working on her new album while the 19 year old was on tour. She recently announced her openness to working with new artists and new producers, even writers. She talked a little about the album saying, "It's a different album for me. There's no real set genre because it's filled with almost every genre." Will this be another hit for her or has she reached her full potential already?

[Verse 1]
All the memories we started
Now I left you cold-hearted
Hope you know that I never said goodbye

Remember when you said your heart, yeah
Never would leave mine now and
I really start to think you never lied

Sometimes you just can't help who you love
Almost takes you under like a drug

[Chorus]
Even though it's been so long, It doesn't matter
We got another chance, let's try to make it right
And we already know, that things won't get better
Unless we both move on, so we can sleep at night

[Verse 2]
We never thought we'd take this farther
Than our lonely hearts would allow us
Guess we never meant to let it die

But now I know where we must went wrong
The feelings that we felt weren't as strong
Tried to never let you see me cry

You know that I won't let go
But my heart is the one with the last say so

[Chorus]
Even though it's been so long, It doesn't matter
We got another chance, let's try to make it right
And we already know, that things won't get better
Unless we both move on, so we can sleep at night

Sleep at night, Sleep at night
And we already know, things won't get better
Unless we both move on
Sleep at night, Sleep at night
It's time to just move on so we can sleep at night, Sleep at night

Sleep at night, Sleep at night, Sleep at Night
(Let's Mo-o-o-ve on) So we can sleep at night, Sleep at night, Sleep at night, Ye-e-ah

All the memories we started
Now I left you cold-hearted
Hope you know that I never said goodbye

[Chorus]
Even though it's been so long, It doesn't matter
We got another chance, let's try to make it right
And we already know, that things won't get better
Unless we both move on, so we can sleep at night

Sleep at night, Now I sleep at night
We got another chance, let's try to make it right
Sleep at night, Sleep at night
Unless we both move on, so we can sleep at night

Written By: Isabel Merjos, Phil N.
Produced By: Gia Rose-Hilton, Isabel Merjos
Length: 3:25
Genre: Dance-Pop

Song Description:

An uptempo dance-pop ballad is the choice for starting the next track on the album. The song incorporates teen pop and pop-rock styles, electro-pop beats, and rock music. The song uses suspenseful strings in the beginning and they combine with a rhythmic drum to set the tone for the rest of the song, where violins are always joining in. This song is yet another example of Izzy's matured lyrics that seem to captivate the audience. The song features several key points where Izzy's voice is shining over the record yet not overshadowing the song itself. Lyrically, the song tells of a break up due to the male's views of the female. She also tells of her being proud and accepting of all her imperfections, noting that they make her feel fine and that he is the one that has a problem in the relationship.

Quote:
"Imperfections (Are the Best) was definitely one of my most inspiring songs to write. It's the feeling that all people get, when they feel they aren't good enough to be with someone and it takes themselves to figure out that they are fine. I loved writing this song because it was just pure honesty and relateable. I went through this with an ex and sometimes you start to take to heart what people tell you but you shouldn't. It's more of a self-discovery song, it's a process of finding out that yes, you are beautiful and you do have flaws but they make you, you. I think I wrote this song in like a hour because it was just really easy to write about something I've been through. It's also in a way a message for anyone who gets bullied. I think they should stand up and say 'Hey, I know I'm not perfect and you don't like the way I look or dress, etc, but I'm fine with the way I am and I love me so you're the one with the problem'. It's really a honest song about what I think of myself in a lot of ways. There's also some points in the song where I was talking about I doubted myself and thought he was right but it's all about really knowing yourself and being comfortable with yourself.

Gia was really pushing this song to be on the album, because initially it wasn't going to be but she really thought it should be on the album. I trust her judgement completely so we put this song on the album and I'm glad we did. I usually don't second guess myself but I'm positive this song was a crucial part of my album. She completely trusted me to write because usually she helps me with my writing or someone else does but she gave it all to me and said 'Have at it!' and so I did."

[Verse 1]
You told me the last time I needed
To look like a different girl
I thought back and believed you
But now I don't really think it's true
Now here we are and you're begging me
For another chance to let you have the key
To my heart, you want that, but guess what?

[Chorus]
Sick and tired of all your tests
Don't wanna do this no more
It's time that we took a rest
We're always going to war
If you can't handle my worse
Then you don't deserve my best, my best
Because I love all my imperfections
My imperfections, my imperfections
They are the best, my imperfections
My imperfections, oh, yeah, yeah

[Verse 2]
Now that we're finally over
I feel like I can breathe again
You told me about your standards
And now you are the one in pain
I saw the light and the problem too
Spent all that time trying to hurt myself
Not going back since I realized
My problem was you

[Chorus]
Sick and tired of all your tests
Don't wanna do this no more
It's time that we took a rest
We're always going to war
If you can't handle my worse
Then you don't deserve my best, my best
Because I love all my imperfections
My imperfections, my imperfections
They are the best
If you can't handle my worse
Then you don't deserve my best
Because I love all my imperfections
My imperfections, my imperfections
Oh, yeah, yeah

[Bridge]
Thought that I was being foolish
Thought that I just wasn't enough
But now I know that I am perfectly imperfect
And now you aren't so tough, whoa-oh-whoa-oh-oh

[Chorus]
Sick and tired of all your tests
Don't wanna do this no more (Don't wanna do this no more)
It's time that we took a rest
We're always going to war (We're always going to war)
If you can't handle my worse
Then you don't deserve my best, my best
Because I love all my imperfections

My pride is stronger now
Something that you'll never break
I see the look in your eyes
Knowing you've made a mistake
If you can't handle my worse
Then you don't deserve my best, my best
Because I love all my imperfections
My imperfections, my imperfections
They are the best
If you can't handle my worse
Then you don't deserve my best, best
Because I love all my imperfections
My imperfections, my imperfections

You told me the last time I needed
To look like a different girl

Written By: Gia Rose-Hilton, Sunny Monroe
Produced By: Gia Rose-Hilton
Length: 3:35
Genre: Indie Pop, Indie Dance

Song Description:

Starting off with what sounds like a synthesizer, this track really takes the album in a different direction already. With it's smooth beats and simple rhythm, this song proves to slow things down a bit and give a softer tone. Izzy's soft, delicate voice is heard over the beat, giving it a crisp, airy feeling which really feels relaxing. Singing in almost complete soprano, the track turns into another direction once the full band is heard with instruments ranging from synths to percussion and so on. The verses are sung in the same way each time and there seems to be keyboards introduced towards the end of them. Izzy's voice is reflected with backing vocals as she sings in a low soprano voice which plays off of each other. Singing about a lost love, Izzy really turns the song into a dreamy trance that makes you want to just really sit back and contemplate. Once again, the singer manages to make a perfect transition during the song while singing and holding her note smoothly during the last round of the chorus.

Quote:
"This track was inspired by my little sister. She was talking to me about a boy she had a crush on and I just though 'Man, I remember when it used to be so simple to date and it was so innocent' so I was wanting to write a song about it and then it turned into a song about when you get older and you don't find that love anymore. You don't find those innocent guys who just are honest and wanna care about you. In a sense it's also talking about you not being able to find that love you once shared with someone before. The sound was absolutely something I didn't imagine myself doing but it really turned out great. There was a sort of indie feel to it which I've never done before so that was fun. As I said before, this album has some different sounds and a variety of shades of me.

Sunny Monroe is a songwriter that Gia had referred me to so she could help me with the song. She was really nice and patient so we hit it off fast. She told me to just relax and paint a picture with my words so I tried. She has this thing where she likes to close her eyes, dream for a moment, wake up, and then write. I tried it and the product was this song, it's amazing. We had a lot of fun working on this song. She has really helped me with my songwriting throughout the album. I've never thought I was the best songwriter but she really helps you to gain confidence and just try different methods of writing. This was probably one of my favorite songs on the album, really hits home. I wanted a track on here that can make you think but also makes you reflect and I think this track was definitely the one to do it."

[Verse 1]
Days go by but I still remember when you first said my name
You were sitting real high in that old oak tree the one where we played our games
I used to follow you everyday after school until you stopped
Then you never showed up anymore and I

[Chorus]
Ooh la la, I fell in love with the boy of my dreams
Till he went away
Ooh la la, I fell in love with the boy of my dreams
Till he went away
I dream about you every day and I can't help myself
I dream about you every day and I can't help myself

[Verse 2]
The image of your face when you first start smiling the smell of my sweet perfume
Your hand was so warm when you took mine and I hoped our love would bloom
I used to write your name all on my notebooks
Then you never showed up anymore and I

[Chorus]
Ooh la la, I fell in love with the boy of my dreams
Till he went away
Ooh la la, I fell in love with the boy of my dreams
Till he went away
I dream about you every day and I can't help myself
(Help myself)
Ooh la la, I fell in love with the boy of my dreams
Till he went away
Ooh la la, I fell in love with the boy of my dreams
Till he went away

[Bridge]
Would have did all I could to make us work, Would have gave you anything you wanted
Would have did what I could to make us work, Wish you didn't go and hurt yourself

(Would have did all I could to make us work, would have gave you anything you wanted)
Ooh la la, I fell in love with the boy of my dreams
Till he went away
(Would have did what I could to make us work, Wish you didn't go and hurt yourself)

Written By: Isabel Merjos
Produced By: Giovanni Rose-Hilton
Length: 3:34
Genre: Dance-Pop, R&B, Synthpop

Song Description:

With bubblegum synth grooves banging in the back, Izzy's sweet and sassy vocals, and the bouncing electro-pop beat, I Love You (And You Too) takes us back to the Izzy we all know and love. The catchy chorus and hook prepares us for her signature pop songs that are too catchy to ignore. As soon as you hear the beginning with Izzy's cute giggles, you are instantly drawn in and now there's no turning back. Izzy attempts to sing about how a girl's mind works when it comes to boys, how they are quick to fall in love and then just as quick to fall out of it and move on. Izzy somewhat has a playful attitude in this song as if she were shaking her head at the girls she was talking about. The upbeat song makes for a great party record or when you want your spirits cheered up, Izzy's bright and beautiful voice would put a smile on anyone. The song, being one of only a few, was written solely by Isabel and features what seem traces of R&B in it along with the Pop. Some critics say the song can be compared to Miley Cyrus's smash hit Party In the U.S.A with it's characteristics and addictive lyrics.

Quote:
"Absolutely one of the funnest and silliest songs on the album. I love this song dearly and it was just something I thought about while I was writing for the album. There's been tons of talk about it but I thought it would be fun to make a song about it. I'm not taking a jab at anyone but it's mostly directed for young girls. It's nothing new to hear a girl say she's in love with someone after like a few months of dating or even maybe a few weeks so I was talking about it with Gia and this idea popped into my head, to do a song about it. It's talking about how girls change their minds so quick and can be easily persuaded sometimes to fall in love with someone for the wrong reasons then move on to someone new the next week or month. We've all done it before, I know I have. It's really just a fun record and I hope no one takes it seriously or anything, it's just meant to make people laugh and feel silly.

I wrote it all on my own and I think I did alright. It's just like addictive, I couldn't stop singing it after I recorded it and I got annoyed at myself, it was stuck in my head for like 2 weeks. I'm annoyed at my whole album now, it's all stuck in my head! Hopefully people will love it that much and go buy it (Laughs) I definitely didn't mind going back to making fun songs because it's apart of who I am. I'm just a really silly person who loves to have fun and enjoy life. I'm not trying to tell people how to love or who to love but I do enjoy poking fun at love. It's the most controversial topic I can think of, love. There's a lot of love songs but not nearly enough songs making fun of love which essentially people do anyways. I just hope everyone enjoys the track as much as I did. Again, I re state this song is not about anyone or intended for anyone in particular."

[Verse 1]
Change, all they ever do is complain
About the way they have things, sometimes it gets insane, sane, sane,
Boys, we think you see us as toys
Always just playing games, thinking you're all the same, same, same
And then we'll meet a guy who can change our thoughts
No matter how we're distraught
And then we'll meet a guy who change our thoughts
You'll think that he's the one for you
Missing all the obvious clues
That he's just not that into you
He's got you crazy like this

[Chorus]
Now we go crazy thinking that he likes us
Few weeks later we have no more trust
It's like I love you too, I love you too
I love you, and you too (Ha!)
Deep inside thinkin' bout what could be
Convincing yourselves that it's not likely
It's like I love you too, I love you too
I love you, and you too (Ha!)

[Verse 2]
Please, someone explain to me
How we're caught in jealousy, feeling like it's turned to three, three, three
Now she know this won't end well
But all she can see is male, someone for her fairytale, tale, tale
And then we'll meet a guy who can change our thoughts
No matter how we're distraught
And then we'll meet a guy who change our thoughts
You'll think that he's the one for you
Missing all the obvious clues
That he's just not that into you
He's got you crazy like this

[Chorus]
Now we go crazy thinking that he likes us
Few weeks later we have no more trust
It's like I love you too, I love you too
I love you, and you too (Ha!)
Deep inside thinkin' bout what could be
Convincing yourselves that it's not likely
It's like I love you too, I love you too
I love you, and you too (Ha!)

Oooh, oooh, what happened to your pride?
Just push that guy aside, Oh yeah, Oh yeah
Oooh, oooh, And now you're feeling hurt
He's thrown you to the dirt, Oh yeah, Oh yeah

And then we'll meet a guy who can change our thoughts
No matter how we're distraught
And then we'll meet a guy who change our thoughts
You'll think that he's the one for you
(Ha!)

[Chorus]
(Ohhhh) Now we go crazy thinking that he likes us
Few weeks later we have no more trust
It's like I love you too, I love you too
I love you, and you too (Ha!)
Deep inside thinkin' bout what could be
Convincing yourselves that it's not likely
It's like I love you too, I love you too
I love you, and you too (I love you too)

I love you!

Written By: Isabel Merjos
Produced By: Jason Smith, Phil N.
Length: 4:03
Genre: Synthpop, Dream Pop, New Wave

Song Description:
Probably the shortest song on the album (lyrically) Hide and Seek is one of the different sides of Izzy we get to see, as she explores with a new sound and a new producer in Jason Smith. The almost unthinkable pairing worked together to create this almost dream like sound that we hear on this track. Starting off with a throbbing synthesizer and added effects, the song catches the attention of many music lovers. The variety of sounds that are incorporated into the track give it a different sound that most likely hasn't been heard by any other pop star today. Izzy's low sultry vocals are almost haunting and depressing in this song, as it continues. The slow and almost dragged out lyrics suggest that she is waiting for something that doesn't come. The added instrumentals in between each verse of the song by the saxophone also gives it a haunting sound with her added vocals in the back that sound as if she were fading away. Izzy takes the time to explore with other sounds on this track, giving her a more different feel than her rather dance aura. Teaming up with legend Jason Smith, was perhaps one of the most unpredictable collaborations that's happened in the history of music. Although the two have seemingly made an undeniably amazing track, it only draws the question if the two of them could possibly lend vocals for a song and give off the same effect? Nevertheless, Hide and Seek is new, different, and unexpected from the pop teen.

Quote:
"This is probably another one of my stand out tracks on the album. It's probably one of the different sounding because it's not like anything else on the album which is good I hope. It's one of those odd songs that doesn't really have a deep meaning or anything behind it but you can give it one if you wanted to. To me, I wrote it to be intended to be about waiting. Mostly, it's about waiting for someone and not finding them so it's almost like a game of hide and seek. I wrote this all by myself in like 2 hours and then Gia was like at a loss at how to produce this. She then called in a friend to help and I was shocked at who it was also. When I heard that Jason Smith was going to be producing the single I was super excited because I had never worked with him before and he is a legend in the music industry.

Our work behavior was normal. He was really nice and sweet and he was focused so it helped a lot for him to help me. His sound was different than what I expected for the single but looking back, it fits perfectly now. It has a sort of dreary feeling but it also has a dreamy feeling to it. He's really easy to work with and he is definitely a master when it comes to making music because he's always been different and always just so innovative, so I'm grateful we got to work together and create such a song like this. The saxophone in this song is amazing and the solo is just out of this world. I've found a new love in saxophones after this (Smiles) and I find myself more appreciative in music when I worked on this album. It's just a really great track that I hope everyone enjoys."

Stranded in the water
Waiting to go ho-o-ome
The time goes by
I'm feeling all alone, Oh no-o-o

Stranded in the water
Waiting to go ho-o-ome
Not knowing when I'll go-o-o
Hide and Seek in the dark

Playing with my life (Li-i-ife)
Hoping that you'll still find the time
Laying in the blind
It still probably haunts your mind (Mi-i-i-ind!)

Stranded in the water
Waiting to go ho-o-ome
Stranded in the water
Waiting to go ho-o-ome
Stranded in the water
Waiting to go ho-o-ome
Stranded in the water (Stranded in the wa-a-a-ater)
Waiting to go ho-o-ome
Stranded in the water
Hide and Seek in the dark

Released: May 15th, 2013
Genre: Pop
Track length: 3:45
Writer(s): Isabel Merjos, Sunny Monroe
Producer(s): Phil N.

~ Description ~
Who To Trust? is a single included on the Sweet Unknown's soundtrack, recorded by Pop artist Isabel. The track is different than expected from the known Dance and House artist as it is simplistic and not as over produced as many of her tracks, still being catching. The track begins with Izzy's sweet and tender vocals with a piano being introduced into the song. As she continues to sing, another instrument, acoustic guitar, joins along, being heard lightly in the background. Izzy's vocals are very light and crisp as she sings about the mystery of fame. Further into the verse, hand claps and drums being to be incorporated into the track, leading up to the build up of the chorus. Izzy continues the same vocalization as in the beginning, singing with her voice in the background for an added effect when singing, Who to trust? She remains in the same key, going up a notch when she reaches the ending of the chorus. The second verse is similar to the first but now Izzy is sounding more confident and sassy with the mixture of her vocals and the guitar playing along. She continues to sing of the misconceptions of Hollywood and the glamorous lives being portrayed by celebrities, warning the listener that there's a dark side that can leave you feeling lonely and empty inside if not careful. The lead up to the bridge, is signature Izzy with her playful vocals. The bridge is sung with extra sassiness, almost as if she were singing and speaking it, often giving an extra feel at the end of each verse when she says, You know.

"Who To Trust? is a song about fame and the negative side of it. There's a lot going on and you have a lot of people around you so it essentially asks the question, who do you trust in this business? I think it goes perfectly along with the show because there's a lot of things going on and you can get the sense that not everyone completely trusts each other or they are experiencing that ugly side of fame others don't know about."

Oooooooh (x2)

[Verse 1]
I don't know what you think
You see me living life in the fast lane
But you don't know what I do
How it looks easy to you
And you're wrong, wrong, ohh

I can think about the old days
I struggled just to hear people scream my name
Would you put yourself through
All the pain that's aimed for you?
For a few minutes and hours of being so imfamous?
You know,

[Chorus]
Oooooooh
Who to trust? (Uh-oh)
Who to trust?
Ooooooooooh
Who to trust? (Uh-oh)
Who to
When you're blinded by the flashing lights
When you're feeling like that nothing's right
When you're always in a selfless fight
Who to trust? ( Oooooooh)
Who to trust?

[Verse 2]
Everyone can't see the truth
Thinking all their years of fame are in their youth
But, little do they know
There's a route that they can go
They'll be hanging with their family and friends
Never having to end
You know,

[Chorus]
Oooooooh
Who to trust? (Uh-oh)
Who to trust?
Ooooooooooh
Who to trust? (Uh-oh)
Who to
When you're blinded by the flashing lights (Come on!)
When you're feeling like that nothing's right (Nothing's right)
When you're always in a selfless fight
Who to trust? ( Oooooooh)
Who to trust?

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na
La La La La La La La La (x2)

[Bridge]
They're all players, in their layers
And the outside looks so good
But on the inside
They still hide
Some won't speak up like they should
Suddenly they're falling, never calling
They wanna make it on their own
Then you find yourself out there, all alone

Yeah

[Chorus]
Oooooooh
Who to trust? (Uh-oh)
Who to trust?
Ooooooooooh
Who to trust? (Uh-oh)
Who to
When you're blinded by the flashing lights
When you're feeling like that nothing's right (Ohhh)
When you're always in a selfless fight
When you've seen the things you thought you'd like
When you've threw yourself into the night
When you've let a part of you just die
Who to trust?
Who to trust?
Who to
I don't know what you think

Recorded: 2014
Genre: Electronic Dance
Length: 4:32
Writer (s): Anthony "mISTER_b" Drake, Lilly Stuart, Electrolightz
Producer: Anthony "mISTER_b" Drake
Vocals: Isabel Merjos

~Background & Composition~
The song was written by ElectroDeath Team’s Lilly Stuart, Electrolightz and mISTER_b himself, the production team was formed after the disband of the girlgroup itself. The production team took part in the work of several singers producing and writing music and even managing careers such as Abie Lena and now mISTER_b.The song has a house electronic structure which mix piano with bass and other beats produced by mISTER_b, vocals of the song belong to Isabel Merjos, thej pop star sensation who had previously worked with mISTER_b.

Musically, the song has an electropop influence but it’s a little more hardcore than any other pop song in the mainstream. Influences of House music such are perceived due to the break melody moments between the choruses of the song, mISTER_b used piano as an introduction to the song, vocally Isabel sound melodic and loud, she has some really good high notes in the choruses of the song as part of the increasing beat that drives to the breakdown moments of it. Other elements presented on the song are a choir and backing vocals also performed by Isabel, effects on Isabel’s voice are echoes and destortions.

Lyrically, the song is about recovering from a bad situation someone has gone through. It speaks from the perspective of a friend encouraging its mate to shake it off and let its heart get healed even though this person would still feel sad for what happened. It also eludes the necessity people who suffer from depression to take pills like Lithium to fake happiness, in the line ‘Let Love, show you don’t need to take any pill’ it’s clearly noticed the fact that the person of the song’s subject is taking pills to easy it’s suffering. Another verse of the song says ‘Let forgiveness wash your soul’ meaning that the person needs to forgive what was done for itself to moving on with its life and not feeling bad anymore. In the end the song is like an anthem for a full recovery from a state of sadness and depression. It serves as the first single of the album and it introduces the idea of energies surrounding our lives which mISTER_b already told that he’s a believer of that philosophy and that he wants to show people that certain energies we emanate can determine the paths of our destiny and the consequences of our actions.

~mISTER_b Insight~
"Whenever I go through a dark time and it can be anything, like a break up, or any other frustration that humans deal in life, I have this little person inside of me telling me that I must shake it off, that I must stand my ground and fight for a better situation. That’s what I’m trying to tell with this song. The beats of the song are an encouraging sound for themselves so I just needed to write verses that would make worth to my vision. Isabel accepts the job of singing this song and she did it gratefully. It’s a hard song to sing because it has high notes to be reached and it also demands a hopeful intonation to its performer, I couldn’t find any other person than Isabel to sing it. I really believe that Isabel took her positive side out to sing it and it ended up being our best collaboration yet. Others songs on the album doesn’t have the approach of this one, so maybe it’s a unique song among the others that made the final cut of the album. It was a perfect choice for a first single. There isn’t any other way better than start the promotion for the album with a positive message to the fans I long to conquer."

~Isabel's Comments~
"I love working with mISTER_b because he's amazing and sweet. There's no sense of rush or pressure when you work with him and he listens completely. I worked with him on my album as well and we just always create something magical together. I knew when I heard this that it would blow up and be a hit. I'm always open to working with new people, producers, and writers. My arms are always open to him and I'm really glad I didn't say no (Laughs) and I got it right this time."

[Verse 1]
Gray sky is above us and
It pours all past hurts
Wait ‘till the healing begin
And your wounds will stop to hurt
Let forgiveness wash your soul
‘Cause there’s so much life to loose
While your expectations are low
Life will pass in front of you

While breath is in your lungs
Your voice can still be heard
As your heart’s about to burst
Let go off resentments
Let the pain remember your heart can still be cured
Let Love, show you don’t need to take any pill

Let the hope, light the way for your full recovery
Let Love be for your heart the only remedy

[Verse 2]
Walking on thin ice, climbing
Slowly One step at a time
Aiming for the top, be sure
Victory is a matter of time
For all the joy to come
It’s worth to start a fight
Life’s not always a bed of roses
But persistence brings the good vibes

While breath is in your lungs
Your voice can still be heard
As your heart’s about to burst
Let go off resentments

Let the hope, light the way for your full recovery
Let Love be for your heart the only remedy

Your full recovery
I’m your remedy
Your full recovery
I’m your remedy

Let the hope, light the way for your full recovery
Let Love be for your heart the only remedy

Released: January 14th, 2014
Format: CD, Digital Download
Recorded: November 15th - November 20th 2013
Capitol Studios, Los Angeles, California

Genre: Pop, Ambient, Minimal
Length: 4:25
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Isabel Merjos, Phil N., Sunny Monroe
Producer(s): Joel Little, Lucy Hill

~ Background + Description ~
Finally, the new single from pop sensation Isabel has arrived. After having such a successful year in music last year, Izzy is back to seek out a new chapter of her life and career. Following her third studio album, 'Dancing In The Dark' Izzy announced she would be releasing an EP in March of 2014. Not much was known about the songs on there until now. We finally get to hear some of the material. 'Do What You Do' is a single by pop singer Isabel. It was written by Isabel, Phil N. and Sunny Monroe, produced by Joel Little and Lucy Hill. The song will be released as the lead single for the extended play on January 14th, 2014. 'Do What You Do' is a minimal and ambient song with some hints of Pop in it. The song was written by Izzy and was cut from her last album, seemingly not fitting in with the rest of the tracks. The lyrics suggest the song is about growing apart from someone and being partly to blame for the reason of the split. She also references the attention she has gotten from the public for being 'innocent' and 'naive'.

The song was well received from critics, calling it one of Isabel's best songs lyrically and musically. 'Although there's no heavy pop influence in it or the synthesizers and dance beats we're used to from the singer, 'DWYD' is an ear grabber. It's the perfect way to jump back into the industry and re-establish herself as one of the top pop acts in music today. It's mature and definitely suitable for her. Hopefully, the EP will also reflect this.' - Derrick Hale (Billboard)

Starting off the song is an array of muffled 'ahh's' that instantly take over the listeners ears. The ambient opening leads into a building moment, the words become clearer, while the beat enters. Izzy's voice sounds almost broken and sad, singing with a low register as compared to her other singles. The midtempo tune is very simple which is also different from Izzy's past songs. The focus is more on the lyrics than the music which in turn actually enhances the quality. The song plays on Izzy's message of lonliness and growing apart. In the lyrics, she suggests that she has grown apart from the other person and feels she is partly to blame. She then goes into singing, 'Sticking to just what I know/It never got me far at all/I dreamt of bigger things for us/But landed on this lonely curse' which refers to her changing and growing as a person and potentially an artist. In the next verse, her tone doesn't seem to change at all but there's a sense of empowerment coming from her words now, the lonliness leaving her frail voice. In the background, you can hear the muffled 'ahh's' again as she suddenly belts out the bridge of the song. She sings, 'I'm in denial (I'm in denial)/Stuck on repeat (Stuck on repeat)' Izzy's attitude and demeanor in the song are definitely not expected of the 'cheery' and 'bubbly' personality we've all come to know. The looming beat plays as Izzy takes a rest from singing. You get a sense of despair in the track which is a heck of way to come back into the music industry after her last moody single, 'Hide And Seek'. Many speculate this is the continuing force to connect the two songs.

~ Songwriter Comments ~
"I feel like I've been waiting forever to release this song, it's been so hard keeping it a secret haha. But now, here it is. Do What You Do is very personal. Last year I had a crazy experience and it ended up costing me a very important friendship. I just thought this song was one to have on my EP because I'm getting it out and I'm not going to carry it with me on my album. Joel and Lucy produced this single and it's really different than my past singles in a great way. I got to play around with my lyrics a little and sort of walk that line of being safe and being revealing, which is what the entire EP does. I hope my fans enjoy this nice change from the dance songs I've done and hopefully this will be able to reach someone else out there."

~ Music Video Background ~
Isabel also announced a video will be released to coincide with the single. It will be directed by Joel Kefali and will feature Isabel in a short film. In the video, Izzy will play a young prostitute who stays with her abusive boyfriend, played by American actor, Shiloh Fernandez. It will premiere on January 25th, 2014 on VEVO on Izzy's personal channel.

[Verse 1]
We're not like how we used to be
You're standing in my wounds so deep
I lit the match to start the fire
Now we're both confused if I'm the liar

I never questioned your words
I trusted everything you said
But when it got tough, didn't want no more then you fled

Sticking to just what I know
It never got me far at all
I dreamt of bigger things for us
But landed on this lonely curse

Sticking to just what I know
It never got me far at all
I dreamt of bigger things for us
But landed on this lonely curse

[Verse 2]
We all will reap just what we sow
But there are things we couldn't know
You stare at me like I'm the enemy
But is it so crazy for me?

I never questioned your words
I trusted everything you said
But when it got tough, didn't want no more then you fled

I'm sick of people telling me
"Just be a good girl, you're way too sweet
You couldn't understand the world
Because you're just a sheltered girl"

I'm sick of people telling me
"Just be a good girl, you're way too sweet
You couldn't understand the world
Because you're just a sheltered girl"

I'm in denial (I'm in denial)
Stuck on repeat (Stuck on repeat)
But now it's time (But now it's time)
To think of me (To think of me)

Stuck on repeat (Stuck on repeat)

Released: March 28th, 2014
Genre: Dance-pop
Length: 3:56
Writer(s): Isabel Merjos, Anthony Preston, William Orbit, Dan Traynor, Ana Diaz
Producer(s): Gia Rose-Hilton, William Orbit, HyGrade, Anthony Preston
Additional Vocals: Ana Diaz

~ Background + Description ~
"La Mariposa" is a mid-tempo dance-pop song; it was written by Merjos, Orbit, Dan Traynor, Ana Diaz, and Anthony Preston, while production was handled by Orbit, HyGrade, and Preston. Serving as the third track on Isabel's EP, the song gives off a new sound for the singer although without being too far out of her range. Lyrically, the song expresses Isabel's realization of having to get a hold on life and be an adult. It also talks about how she's changed, for the better, physically and emotionally. She uses the metaphor of a butterfly (La Mariposa) as a way of showing how she had to break out from her cocoon, shyness, and eventually blossom into a butterfly to learn how to accept herself and be the woman she wanted to be. Izzy's vocals ,with the glitchiness to give it a very soothing and futuristic affect to it, appear in the chorus as she croons, 'Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right/Mariposa flying so high/Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right/Mariposa I become tonight'. Although it's different to what she's done before, the pop track still gives off the dance feeling reminiscent to her past singles.

Musically, the track is described as light, airy slice of melancholic dance-pop. It starts off with Isabel and Ana Diaz's voices combining in order to make up the intro of the song. Izzy then goes into the first verse, clear as day without the glitch effect, and keeps a solemn yet emotional tone throughout singing. There's no big switch in her sound and almost sounds monotonic but the object of the song has already taken place. The tribal drums in the back make up the pre-chorus and switches gears a little, as her voice ascends then descends to suit her lower register. Ana accompanies Izzy in the chorus again with back up vocals which are morphed into higher, squeaky like vocals which fade and then go back into her normal voice for the second verse. In this verse, she comes to grips with what has held her back, herself, and in that very moment, a light goes off in the song which allows her to take a more dominant and confident voice throughout the rest of the track. You can almost picture her smiling as she boldly decrees her transition to adulthood. Even though the chorus is simple, it's still catchy and has that Isabel-like stamp on it which attracts listeners. You can also start to hear the transition in the EP as she is able to take on more mature topics and hope to attract a wider audience than before.

~ Songwriter Comments ~
"You know, to be truthful, sometimes there are songs you release which are in genuine and they are completely opposite to how you really are in life. I'm actually proud to say that this song is not one of those for me. I feel this song in my bones, in a good way. The words were very easy to come by because it was like writing in a diary for me. I've lived this and I know the feeling because sometimes it creeps out again and again. Part of this whole theme for my EP is conquering my own fears and sharing them with my fans because I wanted to show I'm human. I get all kinds of tweets and fan letters saying how they think I'm perfect but I really don't believe I am, or anyone for that matter, which makes us amazing. Being flawed is being special in itself. It's like your mark in life, being different. This song, although I wouldn't say is innovative or anything, it's personal nd means a lot to me so it's special. The producers I worked with came to me with this incredible sound that reminded me of a little Pixie/Vanity-ish but not really something I couldn't sing over. The metaphor is what I believe to be the best analogy for my career, I've finally been able to come out of my cocoon and spread my wings, fly around, experience life, and take notes sometimes. To me, life isn't about rushing to get everything done. It's all about savoring moments and I'm learning that. Before it was just, 'go here, do this, sing that, wear this,' and I hardly had a word. Now it's just solely what I really want and I'm taking charge on my life and career. It's an amazing feeling. The best way I can think of a creature being able to overcome something so unexplainable is a butterfly. Think about it, they [caterpillars] stay in a self-made cocoon for a long period of time, then they hatch and turn into some beautiful thing and can finally do things they haven't before. It's a cheesy little thing for me but it holds a ton of meaning."

Oooh, ooh, ooooh
Oooh, ooh, ooooh
Oooh, ooh, ooooh
Oooh, ooh, ooooh

[Verse 1]
I'll spread my wings and learn how to fly
Take responsibility if I don't survive
Not a child anymore, Not the same as before
In the past I forgot to appreciate
Solitary moments and all the little things
Not a child anymore, Not the same as before

See my colors how they shine, glowing even without a light
Can't deny I'm not the same, What I've learned with my time

Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right
Mariposa flying so high
Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right
Mariposa I become tonight

[Verse 2]
Stayed in my cocoon until I was not afraid
Seems like no matter what I do someone's dismayed
Not a child anymore, Not the same as before
Finally I saw myself at the top
I was my own worse enemy with my own thoughts
Oh, Not a child anymore, Not the same as before

See my colors how they shine, glowing even without a light
Can't deny I'm not the same, What I've learned with my time

Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right
Mariposa flying so high
Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right
Mariposa I become tonight

Oooh, ooh, ooooh
Oooh, ooh, ooooh (x2)

See my colors how they shine, glowing even without a light
Can't deny I'm not the same, What I've learned with my time

Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right
Mariposa flying so high (And it feels)
Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right
Mariposa I become tonight
(Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right
Mariposa flying so high
Feels so right, feels so right, feels so right
Mariposa I become tonight)

Release Review: NME Magazine

No one can deny the star power of Isabel Merjos. That much is true. With her sugary sweet image, her girl-next door looks and more catchy hook-laden pop tracks in a fledgling career than most can hope to produce in a lifetime, she's been a legitimate superstar for two or three years now, standing at the very top of the ladder alongside the likes of Vanity and Stephanie Fierce. However, if there's one criticism one could have of the youngest Merjos' rise to fame this far, it would be that she didn't quite tick all the boxes. With a solid fan base of youngsters behind her, Izzy's music was always, and has always been, perfect in every way for the demographic she aimed to hook, but outside of her own group of 'Izzybells' and occasional listeners, the youngster has arguably never quite grabbed that sort of crowd that would push her into the universal sphere, spearheading her own game rather than playing by the rules set out by those who came before her. That is, until now.

With the unveiling of her new single Release, it's time for the world's all-time top pop acts to start taking a nervous glance over their collective shoulder, because I'm afraid to say, Izzy just ticked that final box. On the first listen, Release is quite a jarring departure from the sort of music most will be used to hearing from a singer who really did snuggle herself nicely into her genre - and with fantastic effect. Gone are all the cute little love songs, banished are the tales of another teenage heartbreak, and forgotten are the memories of the young girl who won over so many hearts - Isabel Merjos just became a woman. From the ominous swirl of the wind that opens the track, to those first anguish ridden notes on an echoing keyboard, it doesn't take long to surmise that this is anything but just another Isabel Merjos song. And then she starts to sing. To say Isabel has undergone something of a transformation would be an understatement. Never previously heralded for her powerhouse vocals, it seems the youngster has undergone some sort of wicked evolution. From the first bar, her voice sounds soulful, full of depth and far darker than anything we have heard from her before, and it only gets even more breathtaking throughout as her voice grows in confidence and style, but without ever overdoing it.

On Izzy ballads from her previous albums, it was easy to picture her as a vulnerable and somewhat exposed youngster - as good as the tracks were - but the emotions of a ballad like this are far removed from that bygone reality. The music itself is full of regret and loss, subdued and subtle in its fantastically packaged beauty, with the ribbon on top being the all-new dulcet tones of a girl who really has grown into her career. In a world where overblown, over-produced pop that gets rather in your face is the norm, Isabel has reigned it all back in and delivered something that can be intensely poetic, dark, sad and wondrously gorgeous at the same time as being simple and suggestive. The theme of her new music is, clearly, maturity, growing up and becoming herself, and this is very much prevalent throughout even this first new single. The theme of sorrow and letting something fly free is another element that flows sensually through the track, giving the listener a gentle nudge in the direction of the new music that is to come from a young singer that has quite sensationally discovered her place in the industry. Release is all about letting go, and that is what we are hearing as Isabel uses her under-rated (until now) talents to let go of her past and move onto the glorious new pastures that await her in the next chapter of her life and her still relatively young pop career.

For the first time, I get the feeling that this is a girl who really believes in what she sings. That's by no means a criticism of what she has achieved to date - not at all - but it feels almost as if this is someone completely removed from the Isabel of days gone by. If you're used to hearing happy pop tracks interspersed with the occasional teen ballad, then it's time to reassess. Isabel Merjos, and I think with this sort of maturity and growth we should all drop the rather innocent "Izzy", has shown the sort of artistic emergence that really will set the cat among the pigeons. Soulful, real and with some of the darker side of her emotions on display for the very first time, this is a girl who is about to command an all new level of respect. And well deserved it would be. With a new EP on the horizon and a new year to banish the innocent bubblegum image we all came to know and love, Isabel Merjos is about to become your new favourite artist, and she's gunning for the very top. Keep an eye cast over your shoulders, legends, there's someone new just joined the race.

4/5 - It would not be a stretch to give this 5/5, but with so much promise of what's to come from her newfound maturity, we've got to allow Isabel space to get even better. For fans of: Britney Spears and Katy Perry

Songwriter Comments
"Release is a song about having that moment where you just let go of the bad in your life and embrace the positivity. Millions of people could say that this year was tough and hard, there were a lot of losses and a lot of tragedies and it's common for people to never get that grieving time they need or really just take a breath and try to relax. It's also the theme for this EP. It's the final breath I'm giving before my album. The common themes you'll find here are a lot of sorrow and timidness, continuing on from my last album. It's the path of not knowing for sure where to go. Nobody has all the answers but we tend to think we do. When that happens, we rely solely on ourselves to fix every little thing and this song is basically saying, 'Hey, you're human. You make mistakes and you always will. You don't have to be perfect or try to seem perfect.' It's I guess, a similar song to Jennifer Armstrong's, 'It's Okay To Not Be Okay'. You do not always have to pretend and sometimes you just need that moment to remember it."

[Verse 1]
Here I go again, the same reflection
Years never seem to wash
All the happiness that I once had
How could I dare complain?

But it's real now, so real now, everything closed with sin
Do I inhale? Do I exhale? A fire raging from within

I lost a part of me
To make room for new memories
No longer holding on to the dream, of us so for once we're both free

[Chorus]
I tried, so hard and all the time
To just carry on with my life
But every time something brings me back
Now I, release your hold on me
We've been all that we could be
My senses tell me that you agree, yeah

Under your spell, you do it well but now it's time for my release
Under your spell, you do it well but now it's time for my release
Locked in this cell, I hid it well but now it's time for my release
Locked in this cell, I hid it well but now it's time for my release

[Verse 2]
Can't live a life like this, I wish I could dismiss
Try to turn back time
Don't wanna think of you, I try to resist
I'll pretend that I'm fine

These tiny feelings, I just can't allow, I don't know where to begin
I paint the smiles on but then I'm not sincere, I just cannot win

I lost a part of me
To make room for new memories
No longer holding on to the dream, of us so for once we're both free

[Chorus]
I tried, so hard and all the time
To just carry on with my life
But every time something brings me back
Now I, release your hold on me
We've been all that we could be
My senses tell me that you agree, yeah

I tried, so hard and all the time (I tried)
To just carry on with my life (My life)
But every time something brings me back
Now I, release your hold on me (Now I)
We've been all that we could be
My senses tell me that you agree, yeah (Ye-eah)

Under your spell, you do it well but now it's time for my release
Under your spell, you do it well but now it's time for my release
Locked in this cell, I hid it well but now it's time for my release
Locked in this cell, I hid it well but now it's time for my release

Released: May 29th, 2014
Format: Digital Download
Recorded: 2013
Genre: Electropop
Length: 3:46
Label: Studio60 Records
Writer(s): Isabel Merjos, Sunny Monroe
Producer(s): Gia Rose-Hilton, The Outsyders

Rule The World is a song recorded by Pop singer Isabel Merjos for her fourth studio album. It was released on May 29th, 2014 by Studio60 Records. Produced by Gia Rose-Hilton and The Outsyders, snippets of the song had been posted on the internet via Merjos following up to its release day. She also took to her personal website page where she gave teasers of lyrics to the song such as 'Together we can...Rule the world' with the date '5.29.14' posted in black and pink letters followed by a trending topic, #RuleTheWorld which was trending on Twitter as the number one topic for three days. Rule The World is an uptempo electropop song with characteristic sirens and repetitive hook. Described by Merjos as a self-empowerment and female anthem, the lyrics suggest finding her equal in someone else, possibly a man. Critics and reviewers praise the catchy hook and chorus, as well as intelligent verses. Some also call it one of Isabel's best songs lyrically, with meaning behind every word and sounds more mature and grown up for the now 21 year old.

Merjos recorded her main vocals in Los Angeles, California and in New York City, New York where she was flying back and forth while recording her album. She enlisted the help of fellow music songwriter, Sunny Monroe, to help write the song. Gia Rose-Hilton, who has worked with Izzy on many of her past albums and singles, also produced the track along with the duo The Outsyders who have worked with Britney Spears before. Izzy posted up different images, possibly from the video, and lyrics from the song weeks before it was released. She performed a snippet of it at the iTunes Music Festival at SXSW where the audience and critics were wanting more. On twitter, her fans, Izzybells, managed to trend the song title for three days as the number one trending topic, generating over 2.6 million tweets for it. The song will also be performed at the 8th annual Chaos Awards as her first televised performance of the single.

The uptempo, electropop song uses dark synths which run through a dance oriented beat. The song has been compared to one of Izzy's inspirations and idols in music, Britney Spears, and her earlier works as well as some music from her 'Circus' album. It's written in the standard verse-pre-chorus-chorus form and the track opens with characteristic sirens and electronic drum patterns. Most noticeably are Izzy's vocals and her tone of seductiveness mixed with petulance to give a very diva-like performance. Izzy portrays attitude in the single, not sounding like the 'little sweet and innocent teen as she usually does' notes on critic. For the most part, she stays at a very low register, only singing higher during the bridge of the song and chorus. Her backing vocals almost sound as if they are taunting and trying to persuade the listener that she 'makes it look easy.' Lyrically, the song is about meeting an equal to the point where the two of them could be royalty and rule the world together. She sings several times, 'Watch me on the throne/I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown.' Her quick-witted and confident vocals are one of the highlights of the song, almost begging the question if Izzy talks like this without the sweet image being thrown onto her.

The song is sure to be one for the summer and it's addictive and catchy lyrics are to thank for that, as well as the dance and electronic beat throbbing in the listeners ears. There's also rumors that the song is hinting at her relationship with Ryan Ross Hernandez but Isabel has neither denied nor confirmed those rumors.

[Verse 1]
Look at you, presence always so demanding
Reminding me, of a ruler or a champion
Everything about you screams that you know what you're doing
Nothing bothers you, You've got ice in your veins
Look at me, I know I'm your only equal
Don't worry babe, we'll be nothing of a sequel
Between the two of us there's something, others all around are burning
We both know it's not the money or the fame

Rule the world, rule the, rule the world
Rule the world baby, oh, rule the world
We will rule the world, oh baby
You'll be my king, I'll be your queen
Rule the world, rule the, rule the world
We will rule the world

[Chorus]
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
(Ooh) You don't believe me?
(Ooh) I make it look easy
(Ooh) Together we can, rule the world

Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
(Ooh) You know you want it
(Ooh) Just go on, admit it
(Ooh) Together we will, rule the world

[Verse 2]
It's too bad, you always go a little lower
Here's your chance, let me repeat a little slower
We can be just everything that people dreamed but know they can't
Reach that level, it just runs through our blood
I'm not a tease, I've just been waiting for the right one
The way you smile, tells me that my search is now done
I'll never hesitate to take what's rightfully mines anyway
That's who I am, And I know I'll never change

Rule the world, rule the, rule the world
Rule the world baby, oh, rule the world
We will rule the world, oh baby
You'll be my king, I'll be your queen
Rule the world, rule the, rule the world
We will rule the world

[Chorus]
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
(Ooh) You don't believe me?
(Ooh) I make it look easy
(Ooh) Together we can, rule the world

Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
(Ooh) You know you want it
(Ooh) Just go on, admit it
(Ooh) Together we will, rule the world

[Bridge]
It don't make sense that you would ever downgrade
(Rule the world, rule the, rule the world, rule the world baby)
Just one kiss could easily help to persuade, but I know you're better than tha-at

Rule the world, rule the, rule the world
Rule the world baby, oh, rule the world
We will rule the world, oh baby
You'll be my king, I'll be your queen
Rule the world, rule the, rule the world
We will rule the world

[Chorus]
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
(Ooh) You don't believe me?
(Ooh) I make it look easy
(Ooh) Together we can, rule the world

Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
(Ooh) You know you want it
(Ooh) Just go on, admit it
(Ooh) Together we will, rule the world

Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
Watch me on the throne
I'll be the best you've ever kno-oown
Rule the world, rule the, rule the world
Rule the world baby, oh, rule the world
We will rule the world, oh baby

What Comes Next is the second single released from Isabel's upcoming 4th studio album. The track was written by Isabel Merjos, George Reid, and Aluna Francis, with producing credits going to George Reid. The single was leaked online but it's yet to be determined how it got into the public's hands. Not much is known about the track except that it was recorded last year in late 2013 and surfaced online last night. The audio clip which has the single cover in the video, has already gotten over 4 million views as of this afternoon.

The track is described as an R&B. Syntpop track with an electronica feel to it. Before each verse, Izzy's voice comes in with a distorted effect to it saying, 'You won't expect it' before the synthy beat comes in. Her vocals are soulful yet delicate as she glides through each verse with confidence and sexiness. In the background, the throbbing bassline and infectious beat are heard. Her ad-libs also make the track, each soft 'Ooh, ooh' in the background, followed by her almost taunting '(La-da-da-da)' in the chorus, manages to give it a somewhat playful yet attractive mood to the song. What makes the track very unique is the beat itself. Although it's quite simple, it fits perfectly around Isabel's voice as she builds up the anticipation during each verse and into the bridge. The beat is slowed down, thumping drum patterns as she speaks softly, almost in a whispery tone, her desire to be with the man forever. Lyrically, the song is about being with someone who is seen as forbidden but enjoying the fact she can feel confident with the one she loves who is also able to bring out such an alluring side to her.

(You, won't expect it)

[Verse 1]
Sometimes something so wrong, can feel so good
And I know that I shouldn't do this but then I should
There are no boundaries, I'm letting it go this time
I won't be fulfilled, without your touch I'm not satisfied
Then something takes a hold of me, I'm just a prisoner
And it won't let me go, Keep me by your si-i-de
Something takes a hold of me, I'll be your prisoner
But promise not to let me go, and let me insi-i-de

[Chorus]
I'm warning you, you better hold on tight
You're coming with me for a perfect high
Don't you worry about a thing tonight
Cause you won't expect
What comes next (La-da-da-da)
You look at me and it's hard to see
If I'm serious or just insane
Don't you worry about a thing tonight
Cause you won't expect
What comes next (La-da-da-da)

(You, won't)

[Verse 2]
What you do, you do it well
But you already know, I don't have to boost your ego
My friends all warn me, that I've come too close
But I can't help it, you are what I'm looking for
Then something takes a hold of me, I'm just a prisoner
And it won't let me go, Keep me by your si-i-de
Something takes a hold of me, I'll be your prisoner
But promise not to let me go, and let me insi-i-de

[Chorus]
I'm warning you, you better hold on tight
You're coming with me for a perfect high
Don't you worry about a thing tonight
Cause you won't expect
What comes next (La-da-da-da)
You look at me and it's hard to see
If I'm serious or just insane
Don't you worry about a thing tonight
Cause you won't expect
What comes next (La-da-da-da)

[Bridge: Spoken]
Take me to that place, take me in you arms
Hold on tight, make me all yours
Show me how you do, what I've never seen
I swear that I won't bite, I'll show you what I mean

[Chorus]
I'm warning you, you better hold on tight
You're coming with me for a perfect high
Don't you worry about a thing tonight
Cause you won't expect
What comes next (La-da-da-da)
You look at me and it's hard to see
If I'm serious or just insane
Don't you worry about a thing tonight
Cause you won't expect
What comes next (La-da-da-da)

(You, won't expect it)

All These Lights is the ninth track on the album, with production from Gia Rose-Hilton. The lyrics were written by Rose-Hilton and Sunny Monroe. The song is described as a metaphor for her life in the public eye and how she deals with it now. The song was originally a collaboration with House singer, Cinzia Ricci, but instead was given to Isabel which she turned into a solo record and later included the singer on the remix version which is more 'dance' than this one. After hearing the song from Dr. Luke and Gia, she decided to include it on her album as it fit perfectly with her theme and message on her album and she strongly felt the lyrics were perfect for where she was in her life at the moment. "All These Lights" is an uptempo electropop and dance-pop song with elements of pop rock and "half-rapped" vocals. The song's lyrics talk about being an entertainer and putting on shows. She also references to different types of lights in which guide her through performing.

Knowing Isabel's style and what she wanted, the two worked for a few months on the track and then finally called in Sunny Monroe to also write a few lines. When it was finished, they sent the track to Isabel in mid 2014, her first time hearing it, and she instantly loved and recorded the track with her vocals. Even though the song was initially meant to be given to Cinzia, due to unknown circumstances, it was passed off to Izzy who then reworked it in her own style. She recorded her vocals in Los, Angeles and it was the last song to be added onto the album. The song progressively builds to the chorus where all the emphasis is put on her 'life of fame' and has a beat break during the bridge which is meant for the 'dance break down' when she performs the track. "All These Lights is about embracing all of the fame, being able to be an entertainer when the lights turn on, performing on stage, different types of lights (spotlight, red light, green light), being able to understand the industry for what it is, lights shining on everything (Bad and good,)" explains Isabel.

[Verse 1]
Something ignites when I walk on the stage
Nothing can touch me, there I escape
Trust me I've learned some new tricks along the way
Like how to put on my, poker face (oh, oh)
Just let me do my thing
And you can watch (you can watch)
Class is in session
You're being taught
How to take charge on the floor

[Hook]
Spotlight is on me and I put on a show (hah, hah, hah)
Green light tell me when you want me to go (hah, hah, hah)
Red light then all of the curtains will close (hah, hah, hah)
Don't have to tell me, I already know how this goes (hah, hah, hah)

[Chorus]
Can't hide or run away everything on display
With all these lights (ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah)
When the music comes on all the fear be gone
With all these lights (ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah)
Expect me to stand there and quiver
Instead I just deliver
Been learned to let go it's out of my control
With all these lights (ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ha, ha, ha, ha, ho, ho, ho)

[Verse 2]
Something ignites when I'm put on the spot
Feeling this energy, and it won't stop
I become an animal that's got no heart
If you wanna play with me, better be smart
Just let me do my thing
And you can watch (you can watch)
Class is in session
You're being taught
How to take charge on the floor

[Hook]
Spotlight is on me and I put on a show (hah, hah, hah)
Green light tell me when you want me to go (hah, hah, hah)
Red light then all of the curtains will close (hah, hah, hah)
Don't have to tell me, I already know how this goes (hah, hah, hah)

Been learned to let go it's out of my control
With all these lights (ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ha, ha, ha, ha, ho, ho, ho)

[Bridge]
Let's dance
Are you feeling it?
No stopping me (w-w-with all these lights)
Say it again (w-w-with all these lights)

[Hook]
Spotlight is on me and I put on a show (hah, hah, hah)
Green light tell me when you want me to go (hah, hah, hah)
Red light then all of the curtains will close (hah, hah, hah)
