"When he rustled in the bushes
When he wandered after dark
Oh were you up in the houses
Or were you down building Noah's ark"

"All of the world's a stage and all of the men are players
I'm your man and baby I play my part with many layers
The greatest plays of this Earth have been tragedies
They fed you poison and that was the last of my sad symphonies"

"Can I love you
Like I used to
Back when we were just twenty-three
I'm a tired lover
But lets lie to each other
And say we're meant to be; under covers its you and me"

"I didn't write you any letters babe
I know I should have but I just couldn't think of the words
Last time we talked we screamed until the neighbors called
Thats when I walked and I haven't come back at all
Not at all"

"They tried to put poison in the air
They told me son go cut your hair
I'll set a fire to the rope because
There's no way they can tie me to the chair"

Chris: Alas Reported Failure is the only band that has had longevity. Let's hope all the new groups follow them and their success rather than breaking up.

SWEAT
UserPostedImage

"Sweat" is the first song to be leaked by Reported Failure from their upcoming album. We don't know who produced it or who wrote it, but its safe to assume the words of Billie Beckett are here but perhaps not his alone. The band recorded the song at Ocean Way Recordings in Hollywood in early January 2016. The song is not being released for airplay or digital downloads as an official single, instead you can stream it only right here. The upcoming album is still in production, but Reported Failure wanted to share what they have been working on with the fans before the official lead single begins the album cycle. Also, since Reported Failure does not currently have a record label, they aren't exactly able to distribute a lead single.

"Sweat" is a gritty alt punk song. It starts on a soft note with Billie singing low over a clean guitar riff with a classic rock vibe. The drums pound to make way for the verse which shows the song's true aggression. Billie really yells out the lyrics the guitars go in to overdrive blasting power chords DUNUNUNUNU in powerful rhythm with bass and drums. Robert Edwards really shines as he smashes the cymbals each beat and hammers the toms creating dramatic fills. The effect is bold; Reported Failure is out to make a point. In a short section of refrain the vocals become softer, both guitars bounce sweet leads off each other and Robert chills out for a second. There isn't a big surprise in the song, the chorus is very similar to the verse in mood but its a little more exaggerated on the drums and lead guitar. Backing vocals from Matt Collins repeating the lyrics add a nice touch. The next verse runs the same except Vin plays a calming lead lick to balance Billie's vocals which sound as if he is cramming as much as he can in to an angsty rant to his doubters. The chorus plays, then the rhythm really drives the bridge as each instrument pounds at once. Billie shows his chops as the vocals soar. After four lines the overdrive rules transitioning to the last chorus. This part is the fireworks! Guitar blasting from the left and right sides, two backing vocalists repeating lines from the song as Billie sings the main portion. When it ends the temptation to press repeat is too much.

"Sweat" is about Reported Failure has been compared to where they are now, what has changed what hasn't and most of all how they never seem to give up. The first lines set a vivid scene of RF before you know who they are when the best gig they can book is in their friends basement. Billie explains what it was like to play those first shows and in the pre-chorus a bit of how he felt. The chorus declares to Reported Failure's haters, to anyone who doubts them, or doubts what they stand for, "They dont know who the hell they're dealing with." Its a simple message and most fans can relate to feeling angry that someone doubts them or puts them down. The second verse is about money as Billie talks about couch surfing in the beginning but now he has more couches than he needs. He swears "I'm still the same guy." The religious references throughout the song (Christmas, Holy Ghost, God) could refer to the purpose Billie feels for himself to fight. Could be God, but the title of the song, Sweat, suggests that he gets a spiritual feeling playing a show and being part of the rock scene.

[Intro]
I came out sweaty from a Sacramento basement
Where the amps shook the foundations
And dust from the ceiling fell on our scalps
I came out ready to fight for what I believe in
When the push comes to the shove
My pen wont be any match for the bullets

[Verse 1]
I remember the Christmas lights
The only thing we had to see
As the room filled with people
Waiting for the holy ghost
Did he come I dont know at all
But we we played our first set
Under the kitchen we felt at home
Making it making it

[PC]
I said I would never feel alone again
Sweating and starving for the next main event

[Chorus]
Oh I'm not done fighting yet
If the bullets fly im coming in
Cant take away anything I've lived
They dont know the hell they're dealing with

[Verse 2]
I remember hitching rides
The days making it big
Meant playing the bay
Couch surfing to save a few dimes
Money shouldn't change us
It does rearrange our lives
I got more couches than I need
In my heart I'm still the same guy

[PC 2]
I still got that fire in my chest I still sweat 'til I'm out of breath

Oh I'm not done fighting yet
If the bullets fly im coming in
Cant take away anything I've lived
They dont know the hell they're dealing with

[Bridge]
It pours and pours I'm sure I've left one thing behind
Its yours its yours I leave it to you on the day I die
Come down come down the God who watches our bodies collide
The sound the sound will never end never run and never hide

Oh I'm not done fighting yet
If the bullets fly im coming in
Cant take away anything I've lived
They dont know the hell they're dealing with

Overall, Reported Failure are departing from the dynamic guitar rock of "Lie In" but are not returning exactly to the sound of "Rome" either. This song is gritty pop punk as if they took the heaviness of their last album and applied it to the style that made them famous on earlier albums like "Post-Grunge Catastrophe." The lyrics are also reminiscent of those years when Reported Failure's songs were about the punk scene and who they were as a band. It feels good to hear Billie sounding less tortured than he did on the last two or three albums. He sounds angry, sure, but its a cleansing type of anger that we hear on this song. What do you think?

Traci: You know, this is what music needs and I am incredibly happy to have gotten some new Reported Failure music! What gets me, is that each and every time you all release new music, it's always something new, refreshing and loaded with substance. After Lie In, I was perched to see what you would offer next and to be truthfully honest, I am very happy that I've waited for yet another great record. I cannot wait for the new album

OOC: Great work! Can't wait for #LP8 :P

Chris: all I have to say as clear as I can say it is. "Bands! Pay Attention! This is how you keep yourself fresh and new! You should all take notes!"

Jake: I think you should have replaced bands with enlightment we know you like them.

Chris: this is true, but reported failure as been around for a long time and still seem to be the bar when it comes to there craft.

Valentina: KINGS OF MUSIC. I love you guys and this song so much, super pumped for the new record. I love when Billie has that raw anger in his voice, RF at its best... especially with those lyrics, it just makes for somethin truly fucking special. Like, I don't even know the words to use to say how much I love this, but yeah, I'll pipe up and just say your album is my most anticipated this year and I really hope to get the chance to see ya on tour. Uh, yeah. Bye.
