I managed to run into Johnny while they were just starting their tour of the U.S. and Canada which they called "The New American Noise" and "We're A Big Deal In Canada" for each separate tour. Now these guys just put on a rocking ass show to celebrate the release of their new album and already have another one in the works. These guys are just busy as hell and cranking out the tunes hard. The highlight of the show was when regular rhythm guitarist Joe Anderson took over vocals during the encore and they busted out The Pixies "Where Is My Mind" that had the whole crowd singing along. Johnny sang the backing vocals but then soon gave it up to the ground to let them sing the "Ooohs" as he waded out into the sea of people with his guitar. Joe soon followed and slayed an amazing solo that showed he could contend with Johnny in the guitar department. They stood back to back while surrounded by throngs of fans cranking out the Pixies anthem that ended with the band and crowd singing the spectral "Oooh" parts together with no guitar or drums to accompany them. It was one of those magical moments between artist and fan as they become one. If anybody missed this show at Philadelphia's Theatre For The Living Arts, they missed a hell of a show. We talked about the latest that was going on with the band.

RS: Man, Johnny that was a hell of a show. You guys really blew the roof off the place. Moments like that are once in a lifetime experiences. How does that effect you?

Johnny: The last time that happened was at a homecoming show. We played "Working Man's Dead" and the entire crowd was just singing the chorus. It's moments like that you just stop in awe and are like "Whoa, holy shit......" That's how you know you've reached people and it just hits you hard. But the Pixies tune, we played that just as being fans of the band ourselves, so to have us both singing together like that. It's an amazing and different moment altogether. You're both fans in that moment in time just like rocking out in your bedroom or in the garage. Except this time you're with thousands of like minded people. Haha.

RS: So you guys are pretty busy as of lately with touring and constantly recording. You were seen out with Nicole Woods at the HOF show as well as being spotted at the secret show they did in Anaheim. But you didn't issue any kind of statement on it. There's lots of rumors floating around that the two of you are secretly seeing each other. What's the deal?

Johnny: I took her out for the HOF show and we have kept in touch since then. I was at the secret show and I did see her after it was over. But we're not an item or anything. Like I said, we're just friends. I'm definitely interested in being with the girl of course. When she hits 18 we'll see where it goes from there. If you see us out together or hear it from me you can take it as truth. Anything otherwise is total bullshit. She's young man I'm not going to risk anything stupid even if she is a year away from legal. I may be a drunk hillbilly punk rocker but my folks did raise me with some class.

RS: You really don't seem like you'd have time in your schedule at the moment to have a good relationship anyway. You guys are constantly touring and recording. Any funny stories from the road by the way?

Johnny: Oh man a million of em'. When were teenagers and just playing our state we used to be pretty notorious for fooling around. As in the baby making fooling around. Anyway. We're staying at this little roach motel for free since we know the owner. We've already taken in a few girls for the night that were all over us before the show. It was one of those you had to be there to appreciate it kind of things. I just get done laying it to my girl for the night who was hopped up on something. She screamed so loud that the walls shook and the owner called us but was like "Dude, I hate to stop you mid stroke, because you sound like you're giving it to her because it's something to be envied. But people are getting pissed. Shove her panties in her mouth or something." That was funny as hell. I didn't realize we were being that loud. But I walk outside into the hallway in my t-shirt and boxers to go get a coke from the pop machine. Joe (TMK's other guitar player) is standing there stark fucking naked getting a coke. (Starts laughing)Then he just turns and looks at me then says "What? I'm thirsty? Here dude lemme get you one." I lost my shit because he's just standing there half drunk with his junk all out and not a care in the word drinking a coke. I turned down the offer to let him buy me one. God knows where his hands had been. But it was one of those moments where you just had to be there. That's probably my favorite story to tell.

RS: Talk about a night to remember huh? Definitely something that you'd talk about forever. That's your past, your future's looking bright. What about the music industry do you think makes you look forward to what you'll be doing later?

Johnny: Definitely man. I can still see Joe's junk in my nightmares. (laughs) Well thanks for the compliment man. The one thing I do like about the state of the industry now is that there are more and more unique artists coming out or playing together that you normally wouldn't see otherwise. I think it's a real testament to how music in any form is universal. The only thing I don't like is the uniformity of some pop music it all seems the same and manufactured to me. There are artists out there that break that mold though. Rap, well gangsta rap is another kind of art form that I don't understand. It all sounds hypocritical. Talking about shooting and killing, or how you're out on the streets hustling in the projects, when you're actually in a million dollar mansion in the California hills. Doesn't make any sense to me at all. However I do like some rap. It's the forward thinking rappers though that rap about politics and the stuff that matters. It's those guys that I'd wanna work with if I wanted to make like a hip hop/punk rock fusion type of album. That doesn't meant we're planning on doing that though. We're actually stepping away from the song writing for a moment and working on making the next two albums based around the music that influenced us. The first is a Sublime tribute album. Bradley really did something with punk then mixed in hip hop, reggae, ska, and surf rock styles to make a unique sound. We're trying to do that in a similar fashion but combining genres like country, blues, bluegrass, and folk type sounds into our punk rock. But it started from their influence really along with some others. We'll be releasing the single for it tomorrow and hope we can do the band justice. The second album is just a collection of covers and we plan on calling it Under The Influence. Then we'll be going back to the drawing board from there to make more music. We just want to pay homage to the music that made us start this whole crazy thing.

RS: I got to admit from what you've done with Hank Jr's songs this sounds like it'll be a real eargasm. This Sublime album sounds like it'll be a big time effort on your part though. I wish you the best of luck and can't wait to hear the single when it hits the shelves.

Johnny: We do plan on working on this album like we would any other. We want to give Bradley's memory justice on this album so we're going to put a lot into it to make sure it's just as good as our last album was. Though we may lay back and just have fun on the next album. But this new tribute album will be something we'll be breaking our backs to perfect. Thanks a lot man. We hope all our fans enjoy the new single as well.

RS: Thanks for your time.

Johnny: I try... meet me at the recording studio and you can hear the new single before we release it today. I'll try to make time out of the schedule to hang out with you. We're just really busy right now. Busting our asses.
