His best friend and fellow YRMG member Rel rocketed to worldwide fame, but for many people in the Houuston & Atlantat rap scene, Monte Carlos was the people's king and an equally vital figure in helping to establish the city as an international hip-hop hot spot. Monte Carlos (born Jame Williams), 19, was killed by a gunshot to the head early Tuesday morning outside Houston's Zone 6 Club in a shooting that left another man in critical condition. . "He brought together the whole Atlanta/Houston rap scene," close friend Trell of YRMG said. "He knew everybody." According to local lore, it was Monte who came up with the YRMG moniker after the group's original name, 3 G'z, was rejected because it was taken by another act. Along with his friend Trell and Rel he helped launch the group and took part in an early pact between the members that said whoever became successful first would help the others along. Tisha: This is really sad. It's a very tragic loss. To have someone up and coming and as talented as him die is very sad. May his sould rest in peace. I've had the pleasure of working with him on a promo single for my new album. He was just great, and fun. But he will be missed. I am at a lost for words right now, so excuse me for ramblimg. He will be remembered. R.I.P Monte Carlos. |
