TISHA LIVING OUT LOUD:AN INTERVIEW WITH TISHA JACKSON

Vogue: Hello Tisha, it is such a pleasure to finally meet you.

Tisha: Thank you so much. It is an honor to be here. To even be mentioned in the same sentence as Vogue is an honor to me.

Vogue: Well, being that this is our 10th annual Body Issue, how do you feel about being a woman in Hollywood. Do you feel more pressure to keep your body in shape?

Tisha: Yes! Definitely. It’s really really hard though. There are some moments when I just don’t feel like working out and I feel like eating up my whole refrigerator and everything that is editable in my house. But it’s about your mind set and discipline.

Vogue: What is your favorite part of your body?

Tisha: Well you know, there was a time when I didn’t like my body. As a teen I had very low self-esteem. I felt that every part of my body as a whole could be improved. To me, there was nothing nice or sexy about me. But as I get older, I would say my self-esteem has increased a lot compared to when I was a teen. My favorite part of my body I would say are my hips. I have grown to love them. It makes me feel like a woman. It makes me feel womanly. And I love being a woman.

Vogue: Now your new album is schedule to be released in June. Can you tell us more about that?

Tisha: I sure can. I absolutely love this album. I have worked so hard on it. I think that this is the hardest that I’ve ever worked on an album. And my fans will see it. They will be able to tell how much time and effort went into producing and creating this album. I have really grown and mature and you can tell.

Vogue: How does it feel to be one of the most successful women in this business?

Tisha: Ummmm. Ummmm. You know…I don’t even know how to answer a question like that. I say that, because I feel like I have a lot more to do. I have worked hard to get where I am but I don’t take my success for granted. It is something that I am very cautious with and I don’t want it to ever go to my head. I thank God for allowing me to do so much at such a young age. And I always want to be level headed. Looking back where I’ve come from is a long way and that is what keeps me grounded. It’s my serenity.

Vogue: Do you think it’s hard staying “down to earth” in this industry?

Tisha: Yes, I think it is. That’s because there are so much big headed people in this industry. And once the money comes rolling in they just automatically change who they are. I want to look back at my previous years and my past and be able to reflect on it and say, “I am the same girl, but with new surroundings”. I want to look back at the Tisha from the past and who I am now and say “It’s the same girl but just a little wiser and smarter than she was before”.

Vogue: How do you feel about the industry now that you’ve been in it for some time? Is it anything what you’d expected?

Tisha: I feel the industry has changed a lot and I’ve been here for just four years! Haha! It is sad but it is very true. I feel like when I first debuted to the music scene. It was the last years of frequently good music being released. Like when I first came out there were great albums and songs coming out month after month. But now I feel like we still get great albums and songs (music), but it isn’t as frequent as it used to be. And as far as my feelings towards the industry and the people in it; I think that it shouldn’t be about how fashion forward this celebrity is, or how fierce this celebrity is. It should be a matter of who is breaking the boundaries and making progressive and real music. It’s nothing subliminal; I just get so fed up at times.

Vogue: Do you ever plan on settling down and having children?

Tisha: Of course! I would love to have a family. But it is entirely in God’s hands. But I can say that I don’t want to get married and have children anytime soon because I want my focus to be strictly on my family and I want to be there for them. Of course, I will continue working and balancing family and business, juggling the act. But I want to enjoy my twenties. I 21 going on 22. I don’t want to be a mother at such a young age. I want to be prepared to show my children how much I love them and create a safe and loving life for them.

Vogue: Can you tell us one thing that the public may not know about Tisha?

Tisha: Haha. One thing you may not know about me? Hmmmm? Uhhh… I like to collect CD’s. Like really good CD’s that are probably not in print anymore. I actually go to thrift shops sometimes and buy used CD’s. Like the goodies from the 80’s and 90’s. This is personally my favorite era of music.

Vogue: If you could look back at a yourself when you were just entering your teens, what would you tell that girl?

Tisha: I would say brace yourself. You have a bumpy ride.

Vogue: It was a pleasure talking with you Tisha. We hope to see you again.

[size=6]Tisha: Thank you so much for having me. Same here!
