As soon as her question came out, it hit Scott like a ton of bricks. Why? She was asking why? He was asking himself the same thing over and over. He had re-read his tweets in the time he had been alone since it had all happened, and he had asked himself why. But he didn't have an answer that made sense...he had been upset, yes, but he had been upset many times before and it had never gotten this serious before. He knew he had to speak. Silence was not going to get him anywhere. He didn't know if there was any way he could save his marriage now, he didn't even know if Gia wanted to work it out, but he knew he couldn't let it die without trying. He wiped his eyes again and looked up to see Gia sobbing, breaking his heart to see that he had upset her this much.
"I th- I thought you didn't want me anymore."

Scott winces a little as Gia starts to shout and yell. He knew he deserved it. He deserved for her to hate him for the rest of his life and tell him to never come back. He had ruined everything. He looked at her as she yelled, accepting whatever she said, because he knew that everything was his fault. He heard the name Bryan and cringed. The name made his stomach lurch. Even when he was nowhere near he still caused problems for them. As Gia stood up and walked towards him, he put his head down and cried again. He could hear her voice wobble and it made him feel sick, feel intensely sad that he had made his own wife feel like this. He felt his eyes well up again as he waited for her to hit him, braced himself for what he knew he deserved. Then he heard her question.

"Do you even wanna be with me anymore..Do you want her..?"

This was like another dagger to his heart. His head was thinking How could she think I don't want her? but in his heart he knew it was because of him that she thought that. He looked up at her.

"I never wanted her. I was being an idiot...you're my wife...I only want you."

He immediately felt ashamed, and stared at the carpet once again, rubbing his eyes.

Scott sat there, hoping that Gia would believe him, he stared up at her, praying that she would accept what he was saying. And then she walked back to bed. His heart sunk as he watched her walk away. It felt almost symbolic to him, and he felt his marriage slip away in that very moment. If it were dying, he knew that only he was to blame, he knew that it was all, 100%, his own doing. He watched as Gia climbed into bed and faced away from him. Suddenly it all felt hopeless. He rested his elbows on his knees and put his head in his hands as his sobs came even louder this time. Here he was, sitting in his wedding suit, just a day married, and he felt like it was all over already. He didn't know what was stronger, the hatred he felt for himself, or the sadness he felt at that time. All he knew was that it felt like he would cry forever.

Scott sat and cried for a while. He heard Gia move a little, but he didn't want to look up. In his mind, if he looked up, all he'd see was Gia holding the door open and telling him to get out. He thought he'd have been out of tears by now, but that thought just made them flow even faster. He shook his head slowly, unable to believe what had become of their fledgling marriage. He heard Gia speak all of a sudden, and every word made him sadder, because he felt like every one might be the last one she ever said to him. He thought he heard her say she loved him. He tried to compose himself again as she went silent.

"Gi...I'm so sorry. I've ruined our marriage. I love you with all my heart...and I would do anything for one last chance."

He broke down again at his own words...."One last chance."

Scott listened for her telling him it was all over. He thought he knew that it was coming. He braced himself and continually wiped tears from his face as he wondered where he would go...what he would do. And then all of a sudden he heard her say he could get into bed. Was this a ray of hope for him? It was not all over? Or was it? He didn't want to get his hopes up only to be dashed, so he sat for a few minutes with his head in his hands.
After a while, he tentatively stood up and took off his shoes. Keeping his suit on, he climbed into the bed, lying in the foetal position, with no covers over him, staring blindly at nothing.

As morning comes, Scott H lies on the bed, still awake. He hasn't slept a moment through the night, and has barely even closed his eyes, lying without any covers on him and staring at the wall, occasionally bursting into floods of silent tears before returning to silently staring at the wall and thinking about how he has ruined everything for himself and Gia.
Now that the morning has come, Scott lies and shivers, but he barely cares. He might be freezing, but he knows he deserves it. He just keeps running over and over the events of the night before in his mind. How had he managed, with less than 24 hours of marriage, to almost ruin everything he and his wife had worked to build. Another tear fell from his eye and landed on the pillow beside him. He just wanted everything to be back to normal again.

Scott heard Gia wake up from her sleep. She had slept well during the night, probably through all of the stress he had caused her, but now she was awake. For a few seconds he allowed himself to hope that she might forgive him. His hopes were dashed though when he heard her get out of bed and go straight to the bathroom. As Gia showered, Scott just lay there, still not moving from the position he had lain in all night. He felt more tears run down his cheeks. He had cried so often since last night that he wasn't sure when he was even crying anymore. The pain in his heart was constant.
As Gia came back out of the shower, Scott prayed that she would talk to him. After what felt like an eternity, she spoke "Morning..." She sounded so sad that it cut through him like a knife. He closed his eyes for a brief second. What did he say? Saying morning back seemed so futile...asking her if she was ok would be a stupid move. But he knew he had to speak.

"I'm sorry." It was all he had.

Scott felt more tears fall yet again as Gia told him not to say sorry. All he wanted to do was hold her and hug her, but he knew that she didn't want that. He assumed that she would never want him to touch her again. She said last night that he wasn't to touch her at all.
"I know it hurts....I just want to make it better."
For the first time he managed to look up at her. She was looking away, but her hand was sitting next to him. He considered reaching out and holding her hand...but he didn't. He could feel the tears welling up in his eyes again. How did he fix this? He had no idea.

Scott could hear in her voice that she was going to cry, and he felt it build up in himself too, but he gained some courage from the fact she didn't want the marriage to die. He sighed a little and rubbed his face, sitting up at last. He reached out tentatively and tried to hold her hand.
"Gi...you gotta know that I wouldn't ever have gone through with it...I was just hurting...and I wanted to try to prove a point, that was wrong, but I never would have done that to you." He dips his head again.

Scott looks up at her with tears in his eyes.

"I know you wouldn't. I know you would never do something so awful. I never thought I would do something so nasty and horrible...and I'll never forgive myself for it. Ever."

He squeezes her hand.

"I just love you and I don't want this to end already...not ever."
