Sugarless is a BBC black comedy television sitcom starring Dustyn Blue-Conners. Set in Sheffield, the show follows Theo Belfield as he tries to climb the societal ladder and give his life new meaning as he returns to the UK from his lavish, comfortable lifestyle in Italy after being dumped by his elderly "sugar daddy". Accompanied by a group of dysfunctional friends who are also trying to make sense of the world, "Sugarless" chronicles the love lives, aspirations and hardships of a chosen family who are all yearning for connection and happy endings. With a knack for finding the spectacular in the mundane and a habit of acting first while thinking later, Theo and company oftentimes find themselves in the most precarious and hysterical situations. Bouncing between steamy sexual exploits and heartfelt introspective realisations, "Sugarless" showcases both extremes of the pendulum and captures the raw and unfiltered experience of what it is like being a tiny human in this monolithic life.

Dustyn Blue-Conners as Theo Belfield

Centre of attention, life and soul of the part and a severe case of main character syndrome; Theo has lived a charmed and easy life. On the surface, at least. Motivated by the material things in life and loving nothing more than creating memories with his friends, Theo prefers the rewards rather than the graft but in to gain them. Life is for living. He is an adventurous, thrill-seeking, extroverted soul trapped in a working class area with nothing going on but the rent. Even at that, payments are often late. Despite presenting as shallow and excessive, a different story begins to unfurl when that pesky reality creeps in. There's good reason behind his constant need for attention.

Anita Randall as Suzie Hemphill

Often seen as 'moronic', 'slow' and 'void', Suzie is seen as a great friend to everyone because she apparently hasn't learned the word "no". Despite seemingly being taken advantage of by her group of friends from time to time, everyone is fiercely protective of Suzie who tows the line between a "pure soul" and a "poor soul". Suzie lives with her agoraphobic, widowed father Callum and doubles as daughter and household provider. Although appearing vacant on the surface, still waters run deep and her heart of gold shines bright.

Esther Kenny as Candace Akhtar

Theo's partner in crime. If there's a scheme, cause for a good time or a Grade A shag on the cards, they will hype one another up to no end. Not that these two need any encouragement. Usually seen with a cigarette in hand and always on an eternal smoke break, Candace "works" at the local petrol station. Health and safety isn't her biggest concern. Having a good time, however, is a different matter. A former prostitute and being adopted, Candace has always searched for a sense of worth and belonging. It tends to be in the wrong places more often than not. She lives with her adoptive mother Narinder and used to house Theo pre-Italy move.

UserPostedImage

Eden Mbatha as Maleek Rascoe

Suave, sophisticated and sexy, Maleek is probably the only member of the friend group who somewhat has his shit together. A bartender in the city's lone gay bar "Full Bloom", Maleek is a well-known and popular face in the scene. With his natural ability to schmooze, he knows everyone and everything. His ear is constantly to the ground, finding out when and where the good stuff is happening. He lives with his boyfriend Kevin and is in a polyamorous relationship, getting his pick of the hottest men. Maleek never appears to be lonely and seems to have it all...or does he?

UserPostedImage

Kai Valente as Callum Hemphill

A widower and Suzie's father, Callum hasn't left his flat since his wife died 6 years ago. Everybody who knows him and visits loves Callum. Funny, charismatic, handsome. The ad would write itself if not for his agoraphobic tendencies and inability to seemingly pull off the smallest task. Callum is the type of guy who would attempt to wash a cup and burn the house down in the process. Often seen with a can of beer in his hand and needing a shave, Callum is a broken man with little love for himself but a lot to give to others. Doting towards Suzie and now taking Theo in, he yearns for human connection.

UserPostedImage

Aparna Udu as Narinder Akhtar

Candace's adoptive mother and an all-round angel, Narinder could give Mother Teresa a run for her money. Cooking meals for Callum and the community kitchen, volunteering at foodbanks, organizing all kinds of sales in aid of charity, housing the kind of lodgers nobody else would have, Narinder or "Naz" as she's affectionately known as by many seems to do it all and with a smile on her face. With her husband leaving her for another woman 12 years ago, Narinder threw herself headfirst into fixing the problems of others but she has yet to sit down and face her own.

UserPostedImage

Alma Pluckley as Doreen Shields

Doreen works at Onesti's, an Italian run fish and chips restaurant which often doubles as the main hub for our group of friends. Seen as the "cool aunt" of the bunch, Doreen is worldly and has lived many different lives. From being a former punk, to dominatrix, to owning a pilot's license, to being able to speak multiple languages, Doreen always has stories to tell and advice to dish out. Also leaning into a love of excessiveness, Doreen often encourages her younger counterparts to take risks and never become complacent. "There's many ways to batter a sausage" in her words.

UserPostedImage

Kimberly Poole as Linda Ellis

Loveable Linda replaced Theo at his position behind the counter in Onesti's when he uprooted to Italy without much warning. Not much is known about her as even by Theo and co.'s standards, she's a little bit odd. Speaking in a very soft, wispy voice and giggling at almost anything and everything, it's evident that Linda is in her own world. She appears to be a very kind and gentle soul, often finding joy in the simpler things in life as opposed to those around her who desperately wish to leave Sheffield behind. There's nothing a peppermint tea can't fix.

UserPostedImage

James Dartnall as Dario Onesti

The owner and manager of Onesti's, Dario has been a staple in the community for over 50 years. Despite frying fish in gloomy Sheffield for five decades, he hasn't lost his spark nor his thick Italian accent. Charismatic, energetic and full of passion, Dario is far more spritely and optimistic than those over half his age. Often singing and dancing behind the counter while his staff begrudgingly serve another pickled egg, he appears as a walking, talking advert for Prozac. Folk wonder if the laughter and smiles continue when he shuts up shop and heads home alone.

UserPostedImage

Maureen Sladen as Ena Partlow

A loyal customer to Onesti's, Ena is found sat at her favourite window seat by the front door, munching on her fish and chips in most days ending in 'y'. Since her husband of 62 years passed away, Ena can't face going home to listen to the ticking of the clock. A sweet, chatty old soul, Mrs. Partlow spends most of her days out and about the streets of Sheffield chatting to everyone and anyone. People watching from her seat in Onesti's and chewing the ear off anyone who catches her eyeline, Ena will know your business before you do.

Kyle Tannehill as Harper Beauchamp

With a name like 'Harper Beauchamp', it's apparent that he's not from round these parts and the outline of a bulging wallet is honed in on from a great distance. Recently moving from Cambridge to Sheffield and willingly estranged from the majority of his family, Harper's sense of independence has left him a bit of a lone wolf - something he is desperate to change. Extremely eager to make friends and find love, Harper can appear a little zealous and full-on, which is OK. All the more for Theo to dig his claws into and ride all the way to the bank.

UserPostedImage

Erich Hess as Russell Hollinsworth

A devilishly handsome and eccentric American millionaire, Russell is a confirmed bachelor who resides in the much more affluent and desirable Cavendish Avenue. Why leave the States to set up camp in Sheffield of all places? Because it's different, that's why. Russell doesn't need rhyme of reason to do anything. Throwing a tea party for his cats or badly auditioning for a serious play he has no intention of actually being cast in, Russell has a lot of time to kill and nothing to lose. Searching for someone to participate in his antics with him and spend his money on, this fool is ripe for Theo's picking.

UserPostedImage

Malik Jarvez as Saul Duran

Saul is a personal trainer and licenced sports massage therapist and there's no qualms about the fact that everyone finds him hot. For the grace of God, Saul doesn't seem to believe in his own hype and appears very humble. If anything, his non-existing ego only makes him more attractive. After Theo undertakes a mission to get trim and fit to increase his chances in attracting potential suitors, he hires and befriends Saul. Despite all of the homoerotic workouts and massages, Saul claims he's straight. So is spaghetti until you get it wet.

UserPostedImage

Bryan Williams as Noel Dorgu

A Rolls-Royce driving, Savile Row suit-wearing and champagne-sipping entrepreneur and influencer. Noel is a hard-working young man with millions of followers online and millions more in his bank. There is absolutely no sense of subtlety about him. Even the cologne he sprays and is gracious enough to waft us mere peasants with as he graces us with his almighty presence smells like 7 figures. Up from London to give a talk at The University of Sheffield, he has a chance encounter with Theo...who totally doesn't see money signs.
