Title: Boy Bye
Length: 3:28
Genre(s): Dance-pop, Electropop
Label: Self-Released/Independent
Written By: Lacy Brown, Paul Leka, Gary DeCarlo, Dale Frashuer
Produced By: Babyface, Dylan Saibic
Taken From The Album: Not Just The Dancer

"Boy Bye" is the debut solo single by British-Japanese singer-songwriter, professional dancer and former The Dolls member Lacy Brown and marks the second member of The Dolls to branch out solo after a decade following fellow bandmate Melva Dixon who also just dropped her first solo offering. "Boy Bye" is a dance-pop and electropop track that will be released worldwide independently. The track was written in part by the 34 year-old herself as well as Paul Leka, Gary DeCarlo, Dale Frashuer as the track contains a sample of Steam's "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" Lyrically the song talks about saying goodbye to guy that has done you wrong in love. Production for the track was handled by Babyface alongside Dylan Saibic. With this release Lacy will charting in the same week as former bandmate Melva so we could be in for a chart battle by the powerhouse vocalist Melva and Lacy who was often just considered the dancer of The Dolls or the one with a shaven head. Also with release a reunion by the group is also unlikely. The track has a total runtime of three minutes and twenty-eight seconds. The track is rumoured to be taken from Lacy's debut solo project "Not Just The Dancer" which as of writing is unclear whether this is a full length album or an EP.

Critical reception for the track has been mixed to positive with many critics calling the track dated due to the sample used by many made note of the fact that Lacy can actually sing really well. James Masden wrote in his review. "The fact that within a few days members of The Dolls have been coming out the woodwork after a decade is amazing, I love a good friendly chart battle and in my opinion Lacy might just win it, this track is funky, infectious and where the hell was she hiding this voice during her time in the group, was actually surprised when I realized it was her record." Macy James wrote in her review. "This sample is dated and has been used a few times over the years, but dang is this track a bona-fide bop, plus vocally Lacy holds her own which threw me for a loop, this is the type of track that is a perfect way to reintroduce yourself as a soloist...yes Lacy show them you ain't just the dancer!". Anya Jenkins wrote in her review which she gave it a rating of 7/10. "Releasing at the same time as former bandmate screams drama but that is besides the point, this track is a funky and fun breakup song and who wouldn't get behind that, sample is a little dated but overall a solid effort from Ms Brown who well and truly is shedding that she's just a dancer image because vocally this is far stronger than I was expecting, clearly she was not able to showcase her vocals in the group which is a shame". Hannah Barret wrote in her review. "Two former The Dolls members coming out solo at the same time is dang crazy and of all of them Lacy is the last one I ever expected to release solo music because she was known for all intents and purposes as just the dancer of the group that was her role, so I like many others will be pleasantly surprised by how vocally good she sounds, solid track all round and I personally love the sample." Jenson Blackman wrote in his review. "Okay this was certainly not on my 2025 wish list but I am low-key here for it, this is fresh and infectious and absolutely perfect for radio, what a comeback I say!".

Lacy wrote:
"Bet you didn't expect this huh, Mel and I came up with the idea of having ourselves a little chart battle as we have both been working on stuff, now I know what you are thinking oh the shade the drama...no Mel is my girl this was just a crazy fun idea for us there is no shade or anything. I wanted my solo debut to be fun and funky because that is my personality its a bit manic, wild and all over the place, I also wanted to showcase me as an artist more importantly as a singer because during my Doll days I didn't get the chance to really show what I can do vocally from a singing standpoint I was known as the dancer or the odd one with the short shaved hair and I wanted to sing more but management didn't allow me that is one of the reason that we split because known of us where happy that the vocals weren't shared equally, so now doing my own thing is refreshing because I can actually show the world my voice and not just be the dancer anymore...its partly why my first major project is called "Not Just The Dancer" because I am out here to prove I am not just the dancer and that I don't belong in just the one box because I am more than just a dancer, so here it is guys my debut solo single "Boy Bye". ladies its time to say bye to all those cheating, lying boys out there sing it loud and proud ladies!"
