Greetings!
This is Troy, the lead vocalist of Reckoner, and this is our blog. This blog was created to update our fans(family, friends and the guys who watched our gigs) on our upcoming gigs, releases and just news about the stuff happening around us. Earlier this week we began writing songs for our debut album(to be released next year) and I say we are making some good songs. I think we were already able to write 5 songs all in all. Earlier this morning I woke up at around 9 after a party in a friend's house, the first thing that came to my head was this:inspiration. Inspiration is a really big part of songwriting and builds up atleast 50% of it. JC called me up at about 10 and told me to come to his house with my acoustic guitar, JPC and Carl were there already. So I was walking down to JC's house to write some songs with my cousin Tristan when suddenly I met my ex, Daenna.So I felt all nervous since the last time I saw her she told me she was leaving me.She walked up to me with Frank, her new boyfriend and asked me where I'd go. I told her that I was going to go to a friend's house to just hang out. She smiled at me and said goodbye, I really wanted to keep the conversation short since I was really busy that time so me and my cousin just continued walking to JC's house. At JC's house i got my acoustic out and Tristan got the notebook where we would be writing the lyrics. I was inspired to write a song about my relationship with Daenna and the boys supported me with this. JC thought of this awesome riff after listening to That Green Gentleman by P!ATD, Carl and I helped each other with the chords, JPC thought of the bassline, and Tristan easily got the beat of the song. The song was really good and took only 2 hours to write. After writing the song, we still had the energy and time to write another song. Our thinking process was really long but we came up with a song I wrote back in high school, it was entitled Comatose and all we had to do was recreate the song.Comatose was originally a fast chord song but we decided to make it more mellow. I was playing with the piano until I came up with this simple melody, which the guys thought was great. The guys were able to continue to build up the song until we came up with this ballad like song which was really what we wanted to create. So that was all that happened today guys. Wow, that was cool..
The only difference is that our Comatose is not a love song. It is a song of a person trying to wake up from a long nightmare when in real life he is actually in Comatose.. It is actually about an experience I had when I was younger, a really long nightmare, but I thought of writing my experiences in an exaggerated form, and that was how Comatose was made..
