Genre-bending rock band Axiom have officially announced their return from their long hiatus. After releasing an album with the Jazz All-Stars in addition to a double album of covers the band decided to take some time off and recharge.

"We had been on the grind for a long time," said Tim Dunn. "We needed to get away, it was becoming a job instead of something we enjoyed."

With the announcement of their comeback the band has also released a new song and announced their next album. The new song, "No Exit" is a departure from their more pop-rock oriented sound. The song is features a new progressive rock style while still retaining radio sensibilities. The new album is as of yet untitled but is expected to be released late October or early November. The album is described as heavily influenced by Rush.

"One of the things we wanted to do when we came back is get away from our experimentation with pop-rock," said Mike Peck. "We always felt a little influenced by Rush because they are progressive, but a lot of their songs have a very identifiable radio sound, verse-chorus-verse, that kind of structure. The album is most similar to the sound Rush had on Permanent Waves."

The album will be released so quickly because of the band's decision to forgo a traditional retail release. Instead the album will only be available in a digital format on all major online music stores as well as the band's website.

"We decided to go the digital route on this album for a couple of reasons," said Dunn. "The first is obviously the quick turnaround time. We can literally finish the recording and upload it, no wait on getting discs pressed and shipped out. Secondly, compact discs as a format are on their way out. Sales continue to fall, no one carries a portable CD player anymore and they listen to digital audio files on their computer as well."

"No Exit" will begin hitting airwaves tomorrow, however it is not part of Axiom's new studio album.

That approach seems very innovative and, if you don't mind, I think the Theosophical Society is going to pinch it for the upcoming album.

Also, great news to see you guys back and appearing right around when we do. What a strange world.
