Hey guys, Jason here. Just thought I’d let you guys know that I have putting the finishing touches on a solo album! Yes, after all the false promises and delaying, my album Realm is to be released fairly soon. I performed a song live from what I thought was going to be the album, but unfortunately, that fell through and Zyzzyx is no longer part of the album. I thought that, while I’m still writing for a new Mind album. The difference with this album is that it is very upbeat, surprisingly upbeat for someone who has written depressing songs throughout his career! It will still have the proggy sound you’re used to, but there’ll be a lot of English and South American folk influences, as well as a large amount of Electronica. I don’t think it’ll come as a surprise to devoted fans who are used to Minds acoustic and softer stuff, but for people who have only heard, say, Bludgeoned into Submission, this might come as a bit of a shock.

Hopefully, I can get some guests in on this album; there are loads of people I think that some of these songs will fit. I mean, there are a couple of pop songs, and a couple of songs that will be good for a jam. It’s a very open album. An album that I’ve been meaning to create for a long time, and I finally have.

Some of the songs were actually written ages ago, like in 2006 or sometime around there. These are songs like Heart and Thoughtwaves. I still count them among my greatest works. The others were written in between The Aeronaut and Shattered Fairytale, a time in which I felt extremely upbeat for some reason, thus provoking the whole idea of this album. Whilst in this writing process, I went on a little break to visit some of my mothers relatives in Ecuador. This made writing songs a hell of a lot easier, and it also meant I could use some of the native sounds which are present in tracks like The Golden Land and Machalilla. It is quite an emotional album, but the emotion is happiness for once. There is no concept, it is merely a collection of songs that I have written.

I don’t intend for this album to be massive. It’s just a little project I’m working on for the amusement of myself. If other people like it, that’s just a bonus. I just want the message to be about happiness and love for once, rather than death and despair.

Jason Smith.

This honestly looks like an incredible album. The sound of the album shows how creative Jason is; he's not just recycling the sound on Mind's albums, he's striving for something new. I completely respect that, and I'll be looking for this album when it's released.

"When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope."

1. Heart (6:42) (Progressive Pop/ Electronica)
2. Heart [Radio Edit] (4:20) (Progressive Pop/ Electronica)
3. The Labyrinth [featuring Damien Smith] (5:19) (Rock/ Hard Rock)

Star-struck highways,
Passage into the heart,
See me ride along,
I love you,
I love you.

Comfort me,
Comfort me,
Stay with me,
Stay with me,
I need you.

My heart isn’t shatter-resistant,
But I know your will ain’t too,
So please can you love me,
I love you,
I love you,

Comfort me,
Comfort me,
Stay with me,
Stay with me,
I need you,

Hurry up,
Not enough,
Please stay with me,
Wait for me,
I need you.
And I know you need me too.

Come with me,
Discover,
The heart,
In purest form,
Of purest gold.
Heart.

Comfort me,
Comfort me,
Stay with me,
Stay with me,
I need you,

Hurry up,
Not enough,
Please stay with me,
Wait for me,
I need you.
And I know you need me too.

I know you need me too,
I know you need me too,
Ooh.

The first single really whets my appetite for the album. I find Mind's material to be a little hit-or-miss for me, mainly because I'm not a huge fan of their heavier parts. Daniel and Derek both call me dumb for it and say that those parts are the better part of the sound; tastes, you know. But this was a really interesting take on progressive music, combining it with some elements that one might have found on, dare I say it, some older Enoch records! Granted, I feel we probably both pulled from the same influences (it would be too conceited to claim a direct influence to them), but I've officially put in an order for the album. It almost sounds like a weird, lost Yes album combining their folksy early years with the poppy 80s period and the electronica of that one Yes remix album created by Steve Howe's son! I'm absolutely thrilled by it.

Jason: I'm glad you like it, man. As an artist, I try to be as versatile as possible with all my records. There is quite a bit of influences from Yes, actually. I've also been listening to some Jethro Tull and older Genesis lately, that's helped quite a bit with the writing process. Everyone has different tastes, so you can't expect everyone to like a certain part of a band or an album or whatever, but hopefully, this can offer people something different.
