*Note: As most people know the Bards aren't in real time. They are old bones who love to rock! This is their story

The Bards: In The Beginning

Jack Frost at age 19

Nearly 40 years ago, singer Jack Fate went to the record store, and with his hard earned summer money, picked up Led Zeppelin's self titled debut album. And after being in awe of the tremendous sound that blasted out of his record player, he decided on that very day, he wanted to start a band.

Now Jack Fate, real name Jackson Carthwright, was part of his high schools jazz band. He played guitar but what he loved to do was sing. Ever since he was little Fate sang his heart and soul out. But his vocal range was to heavy. But that was until he heard Robert Plant's strong and powerful vocals. After memorizing the entire Led Zeppelin debut album, Fate approached long time friend J.R RHYTHM about his desire to be in a band. J.R had already dropped out of high school in his senior year and he had already been apart of a rock n roll band. But Fate proposed to him an idea about creating a rock n roll band that would be has heavy as Led Zeppelin but would a huge PINK FLOYD influences. JR was intrigued and agreed to be apart of Fates band. They called themselves the The Borrowed

Jack Fate at Vocals and J.R Rhythm at guitar The Borrowed recorded their first album, IN DOUBLE. The album featured that blues rock sound that Fate talked about but only had a glimpse of that Floyd sound that intrigued J.R. The album reached 108 in the charts a featured the first glimpse of what The Bards would be in the song SEVEN RED SEAS, It also featured a very popular topical song that often graced the radio called, WAR BOY. Which eventually was released in single format.

A year after the release of In Double, The Borrowed was hard at work at another album that they recorded in a small studio in New York. LAST SUNDOWN was a mix of blues, folk, and had begun to capture that surreal sound they where seeking. The song King Of The Cold Mountain, Last Ride & Symple Creek Hymn had shown the world that they meant business. The album reached #24 in the USA charts and even spiked to the top 100 in the world.
But Jack Fate wanted more then what the "Borrowed" offered. He wanted a entire band, JR couldn't agree more

Welcome The Bards!

After just two years on the scene, Jack Fate and JR Rhythm had created a large fan base. After a year long hiatus Jack Fate announced that they had hired an entire band and that they would be called THE BARDS The Bards had hired old school mate, T. TOME to play the drums, friend JAX to play the electric keys, & MOE Z to play Bass and Synth.

After a year of practicing together The Bards recorded their first album, LOST KINGS HIGHWAY CHRONICLES I: THE EPIC BATTLE The idea behind the album was to create a story behind a fabled king of a fantasy world that would eventually find his way back to the throne. The album featured The Bards first epic song, The Battle part 1& 2 which reached a massive 12 minute in length. The album was compared to the surreal sounds of Pink Floyd, mixed with Led Zeppelin and Rush. The album reached #10 in the USA and #83 in the world. And with the album came the Bards first tour!

The Bards Tour & Drugs..
Using Lost Kings Highway as their tour label, they band toured the United States, UK, & South America. The tour lasted a massive 9 months and within those months Jack Fatt had introduced LSD, Marijuana, and ACID to the bands. JR Rhythm recalls his madness of the tour.
" It was insane. We toured for 9 months straight, everday. I mean we blasted the world with our music as long and as loud as we good. We where young and we didn't care. We just wanted to make some noise and be heard. But Jack, Jack wanted to explore the other side. He wanted to experience the word surreal. And we couldn't say no. We partook in LSD, Acid, weed, and let me tell you those 9 months seemed to fly by in a daze of cosmic rays and neon lights!" Fate would soon find himself in a drug filled haze...

The Bards, BEYOND THE INNER COSMIC FANTASY EPIC!

But in those drug filled 9 months The Bards had come up with the idea of a 4 disc album called, Beyond The Inner Cosmic Fantasy The album would sky rocket The Bards into fame, fortune and destruction. The idea of the 4 disc album was to release one disc at a time and with each disk you recieved a piece of a wooden box that would be put together to create a box set for the discs. Little did The Bards know that Inner Cosmic Fantasy would take a massive five years to complete and would be the seed of destruction for Jack Fate.

By the time disc I, Electric Love Horse had been recorded. Jack Fate had fallen victim of drug addiction. He would often get into fights with band and fans. "At one point during a concert Fate, had seen a concert goer flip him the bird, and Fate, in a LCD state, charged at him and eventually broke 3 of the concert goers teeth. Strangely enough the concert goer was on acid and though the experience was a religious one! Says Moe Z.

Electric Love Horse finally arrived on shelves after 4 months of recording. The album reached #12 in the USA and had quenched the fans thirst for the time being. The album featured the bards favorite songs to play live, Electric Love Horse,Black Magic Lover, Seven Dwarfs Fun & Golden Arm Slim, and the earth shattering drum infused song Mark Of Odin But the song that would capture the future of The Bards was Space Gunner a heavy synth song that seemingly belonged to an alien band!

After another tour filled with drugs and chaos by Jack Fate. The Bards set out to record disc II, DRAGON DANCER. Dragon Dancer reached #3 in the USA which ultimately brought them to the the peak! The album included the most popular Bards songs, Space Ghoul, Reptile Love, and Ride By Night 98% of the album focused on The Bards exploration of space and the cosmos, but the song Fall Of Man showed a acoustic side that had people drooling for more.

After the release The Bards attempted to tour under the Dragon Dancer banner but found it impossible to keep the ACID abusing jack fate in teh right frame of mind. At one point Fate has embarked on a 7 day acid drip that had him climbing the Hollywood sign naked. Fate would be arrested a shocking 14 times in that year. But the fans loved the wild and crazy antics of Fate who would always put on intense show of lights and music. "Jack would go into these poetic fits and spit out these sounds mixed with lyrics that would go on for nearly an hour. It was magic ." And thats what The Bards 3rd disc was called, MAGIC MACHINE

The Death Of Jack Fate
During the recording of Magic Machine, Fate had found a friend named MARC ROLAN who would be mentored b Fate in the ways of music. But even Rolan couldn't see that Fate had embarked on a dangerous path when he secretly began doing heroin. Fate would arrive at the studio in a quiet fashion and record two songs in just one day. Within a week, Frost had recorded, Static EelSimple Company, Sister Moonlight, Sun Woman & Dazzel'em. Then one night in October, Jack Fatet was found dead in his hotel room from an overdose.
J.R talks about finding him. "Well I wanted to talk to Frost about the album and tell him that it was gonna be a huge hit. So I drove to his hotel room, knocked on his door, an I found my best friend...I found my best friend laying on the floor with a needle in his arm. He was dead. And I couldn't do anything to save him.

After the death of Jack Fate. The Bards had taken a long break and decided to sober up. The fans had been destroyed, let down at Fates stupid mistake. But what the fans didn't know was that Fate had left lead vocals spot to Marc Rolan. The band wasn't sure if they could carry on and if they did, was Marc the ideal frontman? Two years later Marc would be given the chance of a life time.

The Bards: The Rise Of Marc Rolan & The end of The Fantasy

After two long years away from music, The Bard decided to make the return to finish Beyond The Inner Cosmic Fantasy. So in last respects to Fate, the band let Marc Rolan record a song,Sonic Doom. Marc Rolan's powerful vocals had completely shocked JR and the crew. "It was amazing. The voice was uncanny to Fate, it was as if Fates soul was placed in this 20 year old kid."
Agreeing that Rolan was the right choice, The Bards set out to finish Magic Machine and they also decided to record the final album of Inner Cosmic Fantasy, The Sky Warriors & Th Real Side. Magic Machine had hit #2 in the USA and had reached #45 in the world. Making it the best selling record The Bards had recorded at the time. It seemed that the fans had welcomed Marc Rolan at vocals because Sky Warrior was warmly received besides it only reaching #7 in the world.
The songs Midnight Madness & Sins Of The Skeleton showed that Marc had a hold and understanding of what it was to be a Bard.

"I was ready to show the world who I was. Fate was a father to me. A mentor. I was stepping into his shows and I was eventually gonna kick his shoes off and show the world that I am serious about this gig. Destiny was ahead of me." taken from an early Marc Rolan interview

So after 5 years of recording and 1 death later. Beyond The Inner Cosmic Fantasy had been recorded. And with this epic album came The Bards first Epic World Tour. The world tour lasted 2 years. NY Times and Rolling Stones Magazine called it the Tour Of The Century. Every show was a massive 1.2 million dollar production that would last nearly 3 hours. It featured over 34 laser lights, over 200 fireworks, and 23 stage setups, each show.

After The Bards returned from their gigantic year and half epic tour under the banner of Beyond The Inner Cosmic Fantasy, Marc Rolan proposed to his fellow band members about an idea for a space rock opera, called Raiders Of The Crystal House. The band was eager to start recording and start production on what was said to be an epic musical masterpiece.

Crystal House took nearly a year to get rolling. But being a rockstar has it's curses. In the last month of filming Marc Rolan was directing/staring in the final epic sequence of the movie when he suddenly collapsed of exhaustion. He was rushed to the hospital and eventually diagnosed with cancer. It was later found out that Marc was slowly getting addicted to drugs, like his mentor, Jack Fate. So with the film 99% wrapped. Rolan & JR decided that the band needed to separate and get some much needed separation. Before the band went their own ways, they released the Crystal House album which smashed it's way to the coveted #1 spot in the USA charts, and so began the year without The Bards...

MARC ROLAN: GONE SOLO
While Rolan's fellow band mates took time to enjoy the free life and family life. Marc was eager to try something new. Within 2 months of the Bards absence, Marc went to the UK to perform a set of small concerts under the name of AUTOPLANE & THE HEARTS BIZARRE, The band was fronted by Rolan, and featured Hank Dawson on guitar & Roy Gorty on drums. The Hearts Bizarre ended up becoming something bigger then Rolan expected. "The international buzz was tremendous", I mean we did ten shows and after the fifth show we got calls from record companies to cut a record." says Rolan in a early interview.

Being a folk/country/blues band The Hearts Bizarre decided to record under the Bospel label which proved to be a smart move. Because the album sky rocketed to #1 in the USA and UK but it also hit #24 in the world. The highest any Bards member has reached in the charts.Including the band itself. AUTOPLANE & THE HEARTS BIZARRE ended up being the self title album and only album from this much loved band. The hit song Death Letter Blues was a beautiful cover that was a haunting and powerfully moving song. Also Nude Moon proved to the fans and critics that Rolan could shake the heart strings in a mellow old country sort of way. The Hearts... did record a single called Ballad Of Six Shooter Sam with Johnny Guitar but Rolan would never speak of that due to personal reasons. Even though the single hit #3 in the world. Sadly after only a year of this great music the band separated but Rolan had a huge desire to bring The Bards down the country lane...
