OOC: I'm basically making Mind go into studio mode for a while so I can focus on doing something different. It's always nice to try other things.

Mind have announced that they are officially back in the studio and are working on a new album, entitled Dream Serpent. It will, conceptually, be a sequel to Shattered Fairytale, although it’ll have a more atmospheric feel, according to leader Jason Smith. Some of the songs from the leaked demo will be on the album, although most of it is completely unheard material. The band will be recording this album at multiple different places for different feels to the album, but will mostly be based in the Hansa studio in Berlin, which has boasted albums by artists such as David Bowie and Pink Floyd. When asked why they chose to go to Germany to record the album, Jason replied “the whole studio has an amazing vibe.”

As well as Hansa, they will be out on the streets to get a “natural” tone to their music. They will be going through tunnels, in parks and even in the bustling urban city of Berlin to get the correct feel for this album. “Yeah, it’s gonna almost be sorta schizophrenic...” explains Smith “one song could be really light and dainty, and then you could get hit in the face with 100 tons of metal.” The album will be heavily reliant on sound scapes and industrial noise, but so was Shattered Fairytale and that became a critical success.

The band know it will be hard to emulate the success of Shattered Fairytale, but, knowing them, they are gonna try hard anyway.

In a press statement, Jason said:

Jason Smith wrote:
“I can now confirm that Mind are about to start recording for our 5th album, which is tentatively titled Dream Serpent. For us, this album isn’t just about the music, it’s more emotional than most of our other albums, The Juggernaut aside. It sorta chronicles our rise from nowhere, but it also tells of some flaws in our plan. We have many songs written for the album, but I think we’ve decided what’s going on and what isn’t. Although we’ve experimented with electronic noise on the past few albums, we haven’t exploited it as blatantly as we are on this one. This album will be our most experimental in general. It’ll have moments of ambient, country, opera, pop and, of course, pounding death metal amongst other things. It’ll still be a metal album, don’t you worry, but it’ll just be different. The plan is that this album will sorta represent summer, and the one after this will represent winter. It’s just two totally different moods I was in and felt like writing in those moods. It sounds complicated, but it’ll all pan out. We haven’t had the time to organise guests for the album like I promised you ages ago... but there is still time, I suppose. I don’t want to give away too much information, but I will tell you the title of our first single. It will be called Summers Edge. More details to come about that... oh yeah, and we need to talk a bit more about the Shattered Tour in South America. The dates will be put up on some website somewhere and you can see them. At the moment, we won’t be touring in Europe or the U.S.A. That’s all, guys. Thanks.”

Due to incredibly bad planning by myself, all the January dates have now been moved to March. For example, if we were due on the 11th of Jan, we'll now be playing the 11th of March. Sorry guys. Luckily, tickets are not on sale yet, so no refunds are neccessary.
