Do you remember The Stray Cats?

Probably your answer to the title of this post is no, but, nonetheless, they're back. The Stray Cats first drew media attention back in April, when they released their first album, Supernova. Altough relatively unknown, the album managed to sell over 400,000 both digital and hard copies in the UK without the support of a recording label. Now, after six months of silence, the band is back, and with brand new material. The new CD will be released by the end of this week, and the band has made dramatic changes to their music, though they haven't lost their energy.

The new album is just that, new. “The songs are unlike everything in Supernova. It's like my sister and I put all our influences together in a blender or something, shook them all up, and put whatever came out of it in this album”, Julian, the band's guitarrist, vocalist and songwriter – at least one of them, since he shares all of these with his sister - said.

Perhaps one of the songs that will catch the attention of most people is the song “Obscuridad”, written and sung by Katelin, in which she makes use of her flawless Spanish in the album's best song by far. Not that the others are anything short of awesome, but the romantic tune of this song, along with Kate's smooth, melodic tone, work together to form what I honestly believe to be the album's masterpiece.

The CD should be out by Friday, and will be available through several e-tailers and select music shops across the UK for just £1.

'The Second Coming' is the title of the second studio album by the UK indie rock band 'The Stray Cats'. Formed in early 2009, the band is made up of vocalists, guitarrists and songwriters Julian and Katelin O'Malley and, nowadays, a rotating band. Even though many people think that Julian and Katelin are married, they are actually twins. This album, unlike the first one, shows the duo's musical maturity, with many experimental pieces thrown amongst commonplace chords. Once again, Katelin does most of the lead vocals and the more challenging parts of the songs, such as playing both the violin and guitar in “Obscuridad”, a masterpiece heavily influenced by Spanish Flamenco.

As expected all of the songs have been written by the duo. One thing to note here is the clear difference between Julian's and Katelin's musical personas. Julians compositions tend to be more inspired by feelings and to have much simpler tunes, with more meaningful lyrics, while Katelin tends to make use of her formal musical education, with more complex melodies, using the music as a whole to express herself, rather than just words. She also makes more use of metaphors and other figures of speech than her brother.

The Stray Cats, are, however, being targeted by several religious groups over the album title, and several hate comments have been posted on the band's Facebook profile. “Seriously, it's not like we care” was all Katelin posted earlier today in response to the comments.

'Mirrorage', the first single from the album, has been released today, with 'Cashmere' and 'Freshly Cut Grass' as b-sides. The single, as well as the b-sides, have both been written by Katelin, and features several elements of classical music mixed with traditional rock elements.

OOC: Ok, things didn't went the way I planned. Turns out I had to make a big move and couldn't follow up on this just yet. I'll write something about the album this week. Sorry.
