OOC: Just a little something I quickly put together for fun and to let those who care know I'm still alive.

So this is Christmas. And what have we done? Well, recently, Mind have completed what we feel is our magnum opus, Dream Serpent. A clusterball of nerdish metalisms, raw emotion, spirituality, experimentalisms and amazing musicianship. At least, that’s what we feel. Anyway, we’re just sending out this message, not only to Mind fans, but fans of music everywhere. This is not only what I think of myself, but what I’ve thought of this entire, crazy year. Everything from running around naked in public places with some famous dudes to making beautiful music with a variety of artists in one year.

There have been brilliant moments, crap moments and truly special moments throughout. Not only in the music, but in our personal relationships with the artists as well. I will start off with all about Mind up to date. This year has obviously been our best year, like, ever. First of all, we were landing on the musical radar with The Aeronaut, which was released pretty early in the year. We then went on extensive touring with a lot of bands that sorta stoked our popularity up by a hell load. After that, nothing could go wrong for us. We then released Shattered Fairytale, which for some reason, is now regarded as a milestone in modern heavy metal. Which is pretty good, I think. We then started Dream Serpent and we’re now ready to release it for next year, which brings us to the present. There have been many rumours about us since I started Project; Prometheus with the absolutely amazing Eric Quillington, but we’re as solid as we’ve ever been.

But I don’t want to bang on too much about myself; there has been more amazing music this year than I have heard in a long time, especially during the Metal Revolution earlier this year. Many great bands made it big during those days. Some have survived, some have sadly faded back into obscurity, but all will live on in the memory of those true metalheads. But it isn’t just metal that has made a huge impact. This year, alternative rock with intelligent flourishes had started to make a welcome comeback, with the likes of Infinite, Reckoner and many other bands creating masterpieces that will, I guess, continue to be played decades from now.

Unfortunately, many legends have passed away also. There are too many to mention, but amongst them are Scott H, Stephanie Fierce and most recently The Nimrods frontman Jimmy Him. They will be dearly missed and will be cemented in musical history for the rest of eternity.

The future holds different things for us all. I, personally, have a lot of things in store. There will probably be a new Mind album, there will certainly be a couple of solo things and possibly a new P; P album if Eric is up for it and it does well as well. After Dream Serpent and The Shattered Tour, I think Mind will take a little break from everything to try and find more inspiration for the future, however, So, as you enjoy your stuffing and roasting a large bird for Christmas, remember all these heroes of music, enjoy the rest of your year and have a good one. You all deserve it. I will leave you with an early Christmas gift of a new Mind song, The Nights Shore.

Love, Jason Smith.

The Nights Shore (Electronic Rock/ Art Rock) (3:59) (Smith)

A repetitive shredding of one continuous, electronic sounding note introduces the song. After a few bars of this, fast paced drums, and a complicated bassline also come in. Although Jason is still playing the intro riff, Aaron is playing a completely different, more complex riff. The pace has also quickened a bit. The riff isn’t particularly metal or heavy; instead it resembles a more punky side to Mind, demonstrated by their debut album. This riff continues into the verse, where the lyrics are sung in an operatic, almost quite poppy voice. Once it goes into the chorus, the vocals turn into a hushed and deeper tone, with the riff turning into a melodic, yet fairly heavy one. There are bits of synth and electronica dotted around the place, which makes this possibly the lightest and most accessible song on the whole album. It keeps going by this system, until it reaches the bridge, where it changes ever so slightly. The whole song goes into a slower, moody and very dramatic atmosphere, and the vocals become extremely operatic. On the line “How could you stoop so low?”, the vocals go black metal and blastbeats surround it, before it changes back to normal. From that point onwards, cinematic and symphonic violins, as well as slight bits of piano and Theremin join in the equation of the song. At the final part of the song, the pace quickens a bit and the drums go slightly mad in places. The riff turns into multiple arpeggios, layered on top of each other and the bass becomes reminiscent of thrash metal. The vocals go falsetto and slightly more insane, rather than the operatic style of before. Once that part has ended, a synth sequence calls the song to an end.

Lyrics:
Don’t be afraid to look at your face in the mirror,
Anymore,
Your demons won’t come back and haunt you,
On the nights shore,
Crucifixion,
Piece of fiction,
Nothing can happen anymore...

Don’t be alarmed by your obscured vision of the mirror,
Anymore,
May angels cry upon your dreams,
On the nights shore,
Decapitation,
Pure creation,
Nothing can happen anymore...

And I walk...
I walk...
Oh, I walk...
Across the nights shore,
‘Cross the nights shore!

And I walk...
I walk...
Oh, I walk...
Across the nights shore,
‘Cross the nights shore!

Don’t be put down by you enemies, not now,
Anymore,
Those bastards can’t hurt you now,
On the nights shore,
Mercy, lover,
And another,
Nothing can happen anymore...

And I walk...
I walk...
Oh, I walk...
Across the nights shore,
‘Cross the nights shore!

And I walk...
I walk...
Oh, I walk...
Across the nights shore,
‘Cross the nights shore!

And I’ll wait up all night,
Gaze out of the window,
See the betrayal,
How could you stoop so low?

And I walk...
I walk...
Oh, I walk...
Across the nights shore,
‘Cross the nights shore!

And I walk...
I walk...
Oh, I walk...
Across the nights shore,
‘Cross the nights shore!
Waste thy breath...
On the saving of me...
Waste your breath...
No more!

Jason: “I originally intended for this to be a solo song, but I thought it’s too good to go to waste like that. It’s slightly lighter than most things we’ve done before, but you should still enjoy it quite a lot. It was one of the first to be confirmed for the album and was on that demo that got leaked before we started recording for the album, so most people won’t be surprised as to what to expect from this song. I really wanted to experiment with the lighter side of producing with Mind rather than just GRAAAH ANGER MORE INDUSTRIAL NOISE, if you know what I mean. This song needs synth and electronica rather than ambience and machine noises, you get? There will be people who dislike this song, the purists, but a majority of our fans should enjoy this. It’s still got some metal moments in it. Conceptually, the Paladin goes from protective to paranoid and psychotic in this song. He realises he can’t escape from this world and he thinks that Eve wants to leave him alone. They then journey into the “blackened grasslands of fantasy”.”

((OOC : I would feel weird writing a really lame RP message in reply to this. Just to say - awesome post, especially the lyrics.))
