The Voyd, a band that for most does need an introduction. Formed over six years ago in Roanoke, Virginia, these mid-twenties rockers have seemingly pushed and shoved their way to become one of the premier acts in the music industry today. As I sat down with the lead singer and main composer of the band, Brandon Carter, it was clear that he was the cornerstone of this band.

Q:How are the holidays been treating you?

Brandon:It has been really great actually. I have spent this month mainly with my family and such. It seems like I have seen them a lot lately.

Q:Speaking of that, why have you and the rest of the band, The Voyd, have not been touring or releasing material for that matter?

Brandon:Well honestly we kind of ran into a disagreement among the band. We are basically a big family, been together for over six years, however we just kept on fighting. It honestly seemed like no matter what someone did, he would piss off someone else. I remember when Zach (lead guitarist) and Andrew (bass guitarist) got into a fistfight on the bus. Nick (drummer) was freaking out with our agent trying to break it up as I sat back and drank a beer. Yet that is just one of many examples of fighting that happened through out the past year. Needing a break was just a must. We were even about to release The Foundation but it just was not the right time.

Q:How did do guys decide to start back up again?

Brandon:Well honestly we didn’t talk to one another until a week before Thanksgiving. I personally invited everyone to my house to have a feast and just bond together. We decided that after a few hours with one another that we wanted to keep moving forward with this band. We love music and we love playing music together. It would have been a dumb decision not to get back together.

Q:As you stated before, you are planning on releasing your sixth studio album, The Foundation. Can you give me the lowdown on what this album is going to be about?

Brandon:Well this album is going to be a sequel to our last original album: The Blueprint Chronicles. We have been experimenting with different instruments and sounds. We kind of got boring with our sound and wanted to change it up. However there will be a lot of similarities between the two. Overall this album is going to be fast paced but also a more mature sound. Our goal was for rock fans of all ages to enjoy our music. Why not reach everyone?

Q:Well some people would call you sellouts for that goal that you just stated. What would you say to those who would tell you that?

Brandon:Honestly I wouldn’t care what they would say. We have come under a lot of fire throughout the years we have been existence. If you don’t remember, we were under a lot of criticism when we decided as a band to not participate in The Birdies because we felt it was a popularity contest. Just about every artist came down like an iron fist to our pronouncement. So honestly I say screw them. Our goal is to make great music and if you do not want to listen to what we have made, then I feel that they would be the only who suffers…not us.

The Voyd’s new album, The Foundation, will be released on January 1st, 2011.
