Visions is the fifth single from Swedish Extreme Metal trio The Enlightened. It's the first 'teaser' taken from the band's sophomore album, the follower to the 2014's The Arcanum Circle. It is availalbe in three formats: CD, Digital Download and Limited-Edition 7" Picture Vynil through Kaleidoscope Records worldwide.
The song was written by Tom Orgsen and was recorded at the Rever Studios (London) and the Black Cave Studios (Stockholm) in January 2015. It's produced by Bill Owens, who was the producer for the band's debut album too.
Visions can be described as a mid-tempo, epic and dark effort. It features a lot of death metal's blast-beats, harsh vocals and dirty guitar sound. But it also has the distinctive orchestral and symphonic elements that are present in the most songs from the band. The song's lyrics are based on H. P. Lovecraft's short story Polaris.
"It's really awesome to be back. Really! This is our first single from our upcoming album...can you believe that now our first single 'Shadows' is almost a year old? I really can't...Well about this single? It has a lower tempo than the classic Enlightened songs, it's a way more mid-tempo...Anyways, brutal blast-beats and low-tuned guitars are there! 'Visions' is really brutally heavy and melodic! It's dark and epic metal combined with orchestral, symphonic and neo-classical elements, it's like our trademark you know? Mixing the brutality of death metal and the 'obscurity' of black metal with the melodic calm of that genres."

and trees of the swamp mutter to each other.
Slumber, watcher, till the spheres.
Six and twenty thousand years,
have revolved, and I return
to the spot where now I burn!

To the axis of the skies!
In midst of dreams, a marble city.
Glowing beneath the leering star.
Yet my visions convince me, that this is reality...
Winking hideously like an insane watching eye,
which strives to convey some strange message,
yet recalls nothing, nothing save,
that it once had a message to convey.
Within my dreams I scream for wakefulness,
but these demons laugh and say I dream not.
While I sleep they mock, devouring those marble walls.
I writhe in agony of guilt; frantic to save myself.
Other stars anon shall rise!
To the axis of the skies!

Queen Alexis: Now.... I mean, this type of music is harsh on the ears but after you get used to it, it's actually listenable but I can't lie, the Queen had to go pray after listening. I do like what this band is about, really revived metal music. It died out COMPLETELY at one point. This band has since paved the way for other metal bands to even have a chance. Erich: this reminds me of a band i loved in an alternate universe. Tr00 metallian warriors they were....but that is neither here nor there. Sweden does two things well. Cars,and metal. Sometimes the two cross and become something like this. Heavier than Oprah's knockers filled with lead. |

Faith: I can't believe how long you guys have been around already, I feel like I just heard Shadows a few months ago. I know I tell you this all the time, but you're going to hear it from me again: I love this. I love everything about it, especially the symphony parts of it. One thing I've always really liked about you guys is that you have these really intense instrumentals that dominate a lot of the song, but when you really listen to the lyrics, you're saying something really kind of magnificent, and I love it. Great job, guys! Here's to another year of listening to you.
