I Am The Darkness is the sixth official single from Swedish Extreme Metal trio The Enlightened. It's the second 'teaser' taken from the band's sophomore album, following the release of Visions which peaked at #2 on the airplay charts. It is availalbe in three formats: CD, Digital Download and Limited-Edition 7" Picture Vynil through Kaleidoscope Records worldwide.
The song was written by Tom Orgsen and was recorded at the Rever Studios (London) and the Black Cave Studios (Stockholm) in January 2015. It's produced by Bill Owens, who has been the band's producer since their first single, Shadows.
I Am The Darkness can be described as a classic heavy metal effort, featuring one of the catchiest chorous the band has produced. For this song the band left their distinctive orchestral / symphonic black metal sound to practice a more melodic death metal style, very influenced by 80's classic heavy metal, featuring lead-twin guitars, lead bass-guitars and less extreme metal blast beats. There're no symphonic or orchestral elements, making it one of the most classic-heavy-metal-oriented songs by The Enlightened. The lyrics are based on the sumerian mythology, more specifically on Ereshkigal, the goddess of darkness.
"Fuck yeah! Our second album is coming very soon and here's the second teaser!...This isn't a classic song from us, it's really different from our other efforts, you won't find any orchestral or symphonic melodies here...It's a total Melodic Death metal song! Very influenced by classic heavy and thrash metal, like Iron Maiden or Megadeth, mixed with growl vocals. I always wanted to make a more classic metal oriented song with The Enlightened! This is a simple, straightforward and brutal heavy metal anthem! I think we wrote some of our most catchiest melodies for this song, you won't get the main riff out of your head easily!"
