The Cleansing is the 9th official single from Swedish Extreme Metal trio The Enlightened. It's the first advance from the band's third album, Slave New Race, which is going to be released this May through the band's own recording label, Arcanum Records. This brand new single is availalbe as a digital download only.
The song was written by Tom Orgsen and was recorded at the Black Cave Studios (Stockholm) in mid 2016. It was produced by Bill Owens, who also designed the cover artwork. Terje Lundsten, former member of REÄLM, appears as a guest guitarist and vocalist.
The Cleansing is described by Tom Orgsen as totally brutal, heavy and demonic song. He commented: "This is pure death metal, you won't hear any symphonical or neo-classical influence on this, pure fuckin' blackened death metal". The lyrics are based on the Holocaust, written from the viewpoint of a Nazi general.
"A new beginning for us. This song marks the direction of the new album, super brutal and heavy. Demonic and dark. Pure raw death metal. It's about the Holocaust, I am not a nazi, I was just looking a WWII movie and the lyrics came to me...I don't want to give any message with them, just a metal song. One of our heaviest and fastest efforts to date!"
