Cerys Nyland's Raw and Riveting Journey into the Depths of Desire

In the swirling storm of alternative rock, where melodies clash like waves against rugged shores, emerges the latest offering from Seaford's own enigmatic siren, Cerys Nyland. A striking departure from her sun-soaked anthems that once formed "The Secret Cove," Nyland's latest album is an exploration of the shadowy alleys of human desire, set to the eerie cadence of blues and punk. This beguiling opus stands as a pivotal moment in Nyland's career, showcasing her undeniable growth as an artist unafraid to traverse the darkest corners of emotion.

As if dipped in both honey and venom, Nyland's songs resonate with a mix of plaintive fragility and fierce aggression. The album, a bewitching concoction of bluesy chords and punk energy, ventures into the heart of "Shenanigans," unraveling its strange manifestations with unflinching authenticity. The tracks paint a haunting tableau of love's twisted dance, oscillating between surrender and domination, juxtaposing plaintive vulnerability with unbridled aggression..

At the helm of this audacious sonic voyage is the track "Cuffs," a provocative anthem of mad addiction. Nyland's sultry voice delivers the narrative of a woman who offers her lover cuffs, not as symbols of love, but as tools of enslavement. The song's allure lies in its unapologetic examination of power dynamics, beautifully intertwined with smoky melodies that tangle with the mind.

"Shenanigans" dives even deeper into Nyland's exploration of desire, exposing follows, tracing the contours of sick jealousy that gnaw at a woman's heart, a poignant testament to the riddles love can weave. The audacious chorus beckons listeners to dance between the lines of right and wrong, drawing them into a world of calculated games and intense yearning.

"A Feast of Hyenas" presents a paradoxical meditation on attraction, as the protagonist oscillates between alluring fascination and wary caution, likening the allure of men to the danger of a Wild pack of Hyenas. The track's raw instrumentals, and screams of madness mirror the opposition between enticement and self-preservation.

The album also delves into the bizarre and the unsettling, as evidenced by "His Feet," a raging song that exposes a girl's sick addiction to her lover's feet. Nyland's emotive vocals encapsulate the fine line between devotion and obsession, drawing listeners into the eerie depths of unfulfilled desire.

"Burn the Saints" thrusts listeners into a tumultuous whirlwind of emotions, as a woman's cries reverberate in defiance of the very saints who bore witness to her troubled marriage. The track's searing guitar riffs mirror the intensity of her turmoil, capturing the essence of a love strained to its breaking point.

"Hurry, Will, Hurry" is a plaintive lament that cuts to the core, recounting the tale of a woman longing for her departed lover's return. Nyland's haunting voice weaves a story of desperation and hope, suspended in a delicate balance that resonates deeply.

In the haunting track "Song for the Defeated," Cerys Nyland bares her soul and weaves a poignant lament that resonates deeply with the inner battles fought in the name of desire. Through soulful vocals and a raw musicality, Nyland paints a picture of a woman who, despite her defenses and walls, has found herself defeated by the overwhelming power of love.

"Is this Lust?" plunges listeners into introspection, questioning the thin line between love and carnal desire. Nyland's exploration of a woman on the cusp of middle age adds depth and vulnerability to the album's emotional spectrum. "Fat Roses" unveils a dark narrative of seduction, as the artist vividly sketches the sinister schemes concocted by a man aiming to ensnare his prey.

The closing anthem, "Claw me Back," ignites a firestorm of passion and fury, narrating a woman's relentless game of power and manipulation over a man ensnared by her spell. Nyland's vocals soar with righteous rage, bringing the album to a climactic end.

"Shenanigans" is Cerys Nyland's unequivocal declaration of artistic reinvention, a daring plunge into the depths of human longing and obsession. Through a fusion of blues and punk, Nyland captures the nuances of desire's dark corners, inviting listeners to confront their own tangled emotions. With this album, she solidifies her status as an enigmatic storyteller, unafraid to explore the shadows that dance beneath the surface of our desires.

Voodoo Dolls Unleash Post-Punk Fury with Debut Album "Back Mutations"

In a noisy debut, post-punk/garage band Voodoo Dolls have plunged headfirst into the sonic fray with their inaugural album, "Back Mutations." The record, a searing commentary on the modern human experience, is a visceral sonic journey that dissects the tumultuous mutations of existence in the face of everyday life.

Lead single "Pay!" thrusts itself to the forefront, a powerful anthem against the rampant commodification of human beings in the digital age. Voodoo Dolls' unflinching lyrics and blistering riffs serve as a rallying cry against a society that often equates recognition with self-worth.

The band's pre-launch concert, staged in the unconventional setting of a supermarket car park on a Saturday afternoon, was a testament to their raw, unapologetic approach to music. The venue's gritty backdrop provided the perfect canvas for the band to paint their fierce sonic tapestry.

"Back Mutations" is a ten-track odyssey through the intricacies of the contemporary human condition. "The Cutthroat World" thrusts us into a maelstrom of frenetic routines, mirroring the ceaseless whirlwind of modern life. The title track, "Back Mutations," stands as a chilling reflection of the unsettling changes we undergo when faced with life's unrelenting challenges.

"Bullet Train" barrels forward, a sonic locomotive urging us to keep pace with a world that shows no signs of slowing down. Here, Voodoo Dolls issue a stark decree: survival demands a willingness to embrace the madness, to match the world's unyielding tempo. The song propels the message that survival requires embracing the chaos, urging listeners to match the breakneck speed of the world around them.

"Lorem Ipsum" delves into a realm of disjointed truths and false narratives, exposing the chasm between reality and the distorted perspectives we often encounter. The track serves as a stark reminder of the sea of disinformation we navigate daily.

"Kabuki Kick" takes a visceral turn, exploring the notion that sometimes violence can be the only answer to a world that seems increasingly hostile. The track's guttural energy is a testament to Voodoo Dolls' unflinching commitment to authenticity.

"Assassin Man!" injects a dose of dark humor, chronicling the exploits of an eccentric young assassin who falls comically short of his menacing reputation. The track serves as a wry commentary on the absurdity that often permeates our darkest inclinations.

"Sanctified Chicken" ventures into the realm of superstition, illuminating the quirky beliefs we hold onto in an attempt to find solace in a world fraught with uncertainty. The track's juxtaposition of the sacred and the mundane is a testament to the band's ability to mine profundity from the seemingly banal.

Closing with "Afterlife," Voodoo Dolls confront the harsh realities of existence head-on. The track is a poignant reminder that while this life may hold its share of disappointments, hope lies in the promise of a better existence beyond.

Finally, "Amerikamura" offers a glimmer of optimism amidst the album's more somber tones. Vocalist Haru Shibata's love letter to her birthplace, Osaka, radiates with affection for Amerikamura, a district where alternative spirit thrives.

"Back Mutations" is a magnum opus of raw emotion and unvarnished truth. Voodoo Dolls have crafted a debut album that stands as a blistering testament to the complexities and contradictions of the human experience in the 21st century.
"Back Mutations" is more than an album; it's a manifesto, a call to arms for those willing to confront the mutations of our time head-on.

Head South Records Unveils Newest Addition: Jugendstil

Head South Records has just added a jewel to it's already promising roster. Jugendstil, a groundbreaking alternative rock band, is set to bring their unique blend of musical genres to the label's ever-evolving portfolio.

Formed by childhood friends Tim Green and Daniel Hayes from London, Jugendstil's lineup is completed by the addition of French vocalist Eloïse Desrosiers and Dutch bass player Elke Hoekstra.

Jugendstil's sound is a blend of multiple influences : especially indie rock, krautrock, lounge and electronic. Their ability to seamlessly meld these disparate elements into a cohesive sonic experience is nothing short of alchemical.

At the heart of Jugendstil's sonic landscape lies a strong krautrock influence. Their compositions feature repetitive and hypnotic rhythms, punctuated by the subtle but pervasive use of vintage synthesizers.

t

Language, for Jugendstil, is also a tool for transcending borders. Lyrics effortlessly shift between English, French, and occasionally Dutch, adding an international flair to their already eclectic sound. Eloïse Desrosier's vocals elevate Jugendstil's compositions to new heights. Her effortless delivery brings a level of sophistication that is simply mesmerizing. Layered vocals further enhance the band's ethereal quality, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that lingers long after the last note fades.. Her delivery exudes a calm, detached coolness, imbuing the songs with a unique emotional resonance that is as compelling as it is enigmatic.

Digging deeper into the lyrical content reveals a band unafraid to tackle weighty themes. Jugendstil's songs serve as a canvas for exploring political and social issues, delving into topics such as consumerism, capitalism, and societal critiques. The result is a body of work that is both thought-provoking and poetic.

With the addition of Jugendstil to its roster, Head South Records further solidifies its reputation as a bastion for groundbreaking musical endeavors. Together, this partnership promises to forge new frontiers in the alternative music landscape, offering audiences an auditory journey that defies expectations.

The Head South logo, poorly customized for Christmas appears on screen, then fades out and simple electric guitar chord can be heard as a jingle.

Then, an unusual Santa Claus appears. Looks like he's drunk...or maybe it's just his own....style. He starts to talk to the camera.

f

[Santa Tony:]" Have you Seen this logo?? Tsss....so lame. Smallest balls in UK, I guess....

Yo, yo, oh, oh, oh!!! What's good, party people?

My name is....Tony, or should I say...Tony in this festive Santa getup that Head South paid me a pittance to rock. I should be rolling in more cash for wearing this dodgy disguise and sporting this itchy fake beard, am I right?

[Off-screen voice]: "Just get on with it, Tony!"

[Santa Tony:] Come on!!!! Isn't it true???? (angry)

(The scene is cut and immediately, the camera focuses again on Tony)

[Santa Tony:] Alright, alright. So, Head South, the label that's making waves like a rogue reindeer in a snowstorm... After a few months on the scene, they've dug up some absolute gems. We have some cracking artists coming your way in 2024. Let's unwrap some gifts, kids!

d

First on the list, Sigrún – an Icelandic prodigy dropping her debut album in the frosty months. I took a listen, and this lady's got it all – eerie, dark alternative folk...or whateve....Perfect gift for Christmas, especially if you're looking to punish the bad kids. (The video shows visuals of the artist in the same time)

g

And listen to the albums title... "We were born in our homes and we'll die there"....festive, isn't it?

Now, check this smart move from the Head South marketing geniuses squad – Cerys Nyland's next single, "Burn the Saints," hitting you right after Jesus' birthday. Smooth, right? This is the third single from her album "Shenanigans" that ranked first in the charts....if you don't know that, you know nothing....(The video shows visuals of the upcoming song video in the same time)

f

"You shall not kill...." already heard this one, right? Well, Voodoo Dolls decided to break this pointless commandments with their upcoming single "Assassin Man" dropping early 2024. They're cooking up a video too, and let me tell you, that's a proper pain in the... and get this : they're donating a chunk of their profits to help hospitalized kids. Good on 'em. (The video shows visuals of the artists in the same time)

g

Ever heard of Jack Dunn? No? Well, you're about to get hit with the bomb in 2024. The kid is cookin' something, and believe me...it's not your traditional Christmas pudding! Happy New Year, lame establishment losers!!!

g

Oh, I nearly forgot to announce that great great news... Jugendstil's up to something.... Strange sounds coming from their studio, rumors of an album, or shit like that. They told me to say that, so there you have it. No need to thank me....

I can't leave you like this...

So....hold your stockings because Head South signed a local talent. No need to jet off to foreign lands like Iceland, Japan, or Newcastle... Sussex rocks! And we are very proud to welcome Oona Clarke from Brighton, who quit her office job for... Hope it wasn't for the money, 'cause there's zilch here....nothing to earn here....nada!

o

[Off-screen voice]: "Shut up, Tony!".

[Santa:] Someone shouted 'shut up,'???... Guess that's the Magic of Christmas, isn't it?

Ok, Expect auditions, gigs, and surprises. I'm outβ€”mainly because I'm not paid enough to say more. Happy New Year, ya filthy animals! and merry Christmas from Head South!!!! (Poorly Singing) It's the mooooooost woooonderfuuuuck tiiiime of the yeaaaaaaar!"

Sigrún's Enchanting Debut: "We Were Born in Our Homes and We'll Die Here"

It's like a fresh voice emerging like a whisper of crisp Icelandic wind – Sigrún delivers her expected debut album. Sigrún's musical journey began with live auditions at the Head South café, a move that proved strategic for the label's nascent existence. Sometimes, the best sounds are discovered in the most intimate spaces.

In a candid revelation, Sigrún, who transitioned from singing in an Icelandic choir to the London scene, expressed gratitude to her label for trusting her instincts in crafting this album. The result is a fascinating blend of alternative rock, eerie folk sounds, and delicate electronic atmospheres that beckon the listener into the unexplored corners of Icelandic folklore.

The album cover, a stunning creation by Icelandic designer Jon Karlsson, sets the tone for the sonic journey within. It's a gateway into a world where winter, sunless landscapes, and the earth itself play leading roles.

Behind the enigmatic title, "We were born in our homes and we'll die here", lies a tapestry of Icelandic folklore and fantasies, particularly those rooted in the sunless winter season. Sigrún captures the essence of an era where surviving the harsh elements meant everything.

The album unfolds with an immersive exploration of nature, particularly winter, the sun, and the earth. The opening track, Dark White Mask, paints a vivid picture of the arrival of the sunless season in a Nordic landscape, with electric riffs erupting like a violent squall. Sigrún's inspiration is drawn from Icelandic folk tales, weaving narratives of spirits and survival during the unforgiving winter.

The second track, "Are you living or dead?" mirrors an ancient Icelandic greeting, inviting listeners to question the nature of existence. As the album progresses, "Dark White Mask" and "Nornadans" delve into alternative rock, blending seamlessly with folk. The latter introduces electronic elements, inspired by Icelandic legends of the Norns, creating a dreamlike atmosphere with delicate electronic sounds, haunting violins, andin Indian instruments such as tablas.

"Banished," the album's first single, is an electro-rock anthem that explores the universal theme of rejection. While the lyrics delve into conventional emotions, Sigrún maintains her connection with elemental themes.

"A Question by Silja" sees Sigrún portraying herself as a child, questioning her mother about the veracity of legends. This track explores the impact of darkness on belief systems, akin to how flowers struggle to grow in the absence of light.

Navigating through troll-inspired tales in "Wild Bride," Sigrún artfully avoids falling into the trap of creating an album for Nordic culture geeks. We can note the clever use of violins, mimicking electric guitars with frenzied riffs.

"Fjallgrímsdóttir" takes a haunting turn, with a mysterious voice and an old, unchorded piano providing a spectral backdrop. The subsequent track, "Constellation of the Whale," offers a soothing contrast, blending Indian percussions and electronic sounds to create a comforting atmosphere. This track serves as a response to "A Question by Silja," encouraging listeners to escape into the celestial sea of imagination, floating like a whale in an ocean of distant stars.

As the album nears its conclusion, "Rebirthday" infuses optimism, symbolizing new beginnings after enduring darkness. The final track, "Sun lives where Winter Dies," is a hypnotic ode to the return of the sun, tinged with bittersweet reflections on the mysteries that accompany the arrival of spring. Reminding us that darkness is only put to rest temporarily.

In "We were born in our homes and we'll die here," Sigrún's debut not only establishes her as a noteworthy talent in alternative rock but also offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Icelandic folklore and the profound connection between nature and the human experience. It's a sonic journey worth taking, guided by the enigmatic voice of a rising artist.

Erich: you definitely gotta be careful about attracting the wrong sort of Nordic culture nerds.

Erica: it's beautiful and such a great concept. But I wonder... did she defeat Bjork? I had to fist fight Kyary Pamyu Pamyu way back when. I was sick that day and lost, thus why she became a huge pop star and I didn't .

Nina: the pon pon pon woman kicked your ass?! Lame, love. I'm embarrassed for you , frankly.

Erica: she fights dirty!

The receptionist, an alternative music fan named Lucy (her favorites are Friedberg, Death Cab for Cutie, Porridge Radio or Dum Dum Girls), looked up from her desk and flashed a quick smile.

t

It's her first job in the music industry, but the lady clearly has ambitions for the future.

"Hey, Johnny! Welcome to Head South Records. The auditions are happening at the Head South Café. That's where the magic happens," Lucy said, her voice carrying the excitement of someone immersed in the world of music.

Johnny nodded, a smirk playing on his lips. "Auditions, huh?"

Lucy handed him an Audition ticket with a nod.

t

"Good luck. The scouts have an ear for talent, but you never know what they're looking for. Head South Café, just follow the sound."

Lucy leaned in, whispering with a smile, " Sometimes they say yes, sometimes no, even to the most talented artists. Just give it your all, and who knows?"

(Out of RP: hi! And thanks for your interest, I'd be happy to see Johnny in the label's auditions. Just have fun, write a RP text describing your band, the sound, the lyrics, and it looks like your artist has a History here, I'd be glad to know about it....ah, there's one simple rule: don't get mad or upset if the scouts Say no, of course. It's just for fun. ;) ).

Third single from her acclaimed album "Shenanigans" in which she explores the dark webs of Desire, "Burn the Saints" by Cerys Nyland is a haunting evocation of revenge and vulnerability. Nyland's vocals haunt this track in a mesmerizing way. Her delivery is both vulnerable and powerful, conveying a deep sense of longing, desperation, and revenge of course. The rawness in her voice adds a visceral quality to the song.

The music, characterized by its sparse arrangement and haunting melody, creates an intimate atmosphere that perfectly complements Nyland's distinctive voice. The song features a stripped-down arrangement, with lone electric guitar chords providing a somber backdrop to the poignant lyrics.

g

The music carries a slow tempo, allowing the lyrics to take center stage. Nyland's voice, characterized by its distinct timbre and intensity, weaves through the melody with a mixture of melancholy and strength. The minimalist instrumentation enhances the overall mood, creating an intimate atmosphere that draws the audience into the desperate intensity of a lost love portrayed in the song. The song unfolds like a confessional narrative, with each note and lyric contributing to the evocation of this desperate battered wife seeking revenge on the saints who once blessed her union with a violent man. It's judgment day.

Nyland did it again. With "Burn the Saints" she managed (once again) to craft an intricate combination of her unique voice, emotive lyrics, and carefully crafted musical arrangement to make this track a poignant and timeless addition to her discography.

**Jack Dunn Unleashes Debut Single "Lowlife" – A Raw Anthem of Defiance and Identity**

Happy New Year. English singer-songwriter Jack Dunn bursts onto the scene with his debut single, "Lowlife," released under the wings of 'Head South Records.' The track, born from Dunn's unfiltered perspective and gritty Northern roots, has already created ripples of anticipation among fans.

Dunn's journey to signing with 'Head South Records' began during the live audition in October 2023, where "Lowlife" first saw the light of day and paved the way for his rapid ascent.

In an exclusive note shared with 'Head South Records' subscribers, Dunn offers a glimpse into the soul of "Lowlife." It's a reflection on identity, defiance, and pride in the face of societal judgment. With a chip on his shoulder worn with pride, Dunn articulates the struggles, experiences, and unfiltered perspectives that shape his music.

Dunn's vocals, delivered in his distinctive northern accent, narrate the tale of a young individual confronting societal disdain. The chorus, simple yet powerful, repeats the words of a misunderstood generation. "Whey, haven’t you got nowt better to do with your sad little life?" β€” a poignant question that echoes throughout the track. Each verse adds layers to the narrative, exposing the grim reality of forgotten neighborhoods and the political disillusionment of the working class.

"Lowlife" is not just a song; it's a poignant narrative, a snapshot of Jack Dunn's unfiltered reality. In an era dominated by manufactured pop, Dunn's authenticity and bold storytelling set him apart. As the single officially hits the airwaves in various formats, it marks the beginning of a promising chapter for this unapologetic Northern voice. Jack Dunn's "Lowlife" is more than music; it's a declaration of identity, and an anthem for those who refuse to be defined by societal expectations.

Roaring into the Scene: Head South signs Sheffield's 'Mother of Tigers'

We're happy to introduce "Mother of Tigers," a dynamic alternative rock band born from the creative and enthusiastic energy of five young ladies who crossed paths at Sheffield Art School. Lead vocalist Michaela Ward-Chambers, ignited by her musical aspirations, joined forces with bassist Millie Harkin, both driven by a shared passion for a carefree form of rock.

Inspired by glam rock legends such as T-Rex, Queen, David Bowie, and the ethereal Kate Bush, the band took shape with the addition of Freya Thomas on guitar, Louise Orchard on piano and keyboard, and the rhythmic beats of Turkish-born drummer Derya Çetin. After liters of beers and nights spent shaping their plans at the local pub, what started as a dream among friends soon transformed into a reality as "Mother of Tigers" burst onto the scene.

Why that name? Well, Michaela spills the tea - they wanted something that screamed feminine power, with a touch of pompous flair : "We aimed for a name that embodied femininity, power, and a touch of grandiosity. The concept was to convey an image of powerful control over wild beasts" a symbolism that resonated with their musical vision.

Their initial foray into the music scene began with electrifying cover performances, honing their skills and stage presence. After a year of captivating live shows, the band discovered the exhilarating thrill of being on stage and amassed a small devoted local fan base, first in Sheffield, then in London, and finally across the UK. Feeling the creative itch, they decided it was time to channel their collective energy into crafting original songs with a fresh blend of classic and alternative rock.

And guess what? Your favorite label heard their roar and jumped at the chance to sign this fierce quintet. 🀟😎

Erich: now hear me out.... Marc bolan of T-Rex played Eddie Cochran's guitar....i fucking love Eddie Cochran. T-Rex inspired these ladies while Eddie Cochran inspired me. That is why the universe is a cycle of birth and rebirth. Or in other words. I should probably dig this.
