B I O G R A P H YIf there's one word to describe Andrea, it is "resilient". Battling a barrage of personal woes in an extremely public setting, surviving the epidemic of the "GOTCHA!" so-called 'journalism' of the 2010's and defying all of the odds that have continuously stacked against her, Andrea remains a stalwart of the music industry and a modern day icon of pop culture. High profile relationships, explosive feuds, jaw-dropping live performances, era-defining chart-toppers, iconic looks and memorable reality television appearances that will live on for generations - you name it, Ms. Mason has it tucked firmly under her Mugler belt.
Being born and raised in Austin, Texas, geographically, Andrea already had music running through her bloodstream. The Southern sounds of heartfelt, traditional Americana and country music on the radio coupled with growing up alongside the rise of Hip-Hop through the 1990's, it was serendipitous for a musical prodigy to grow up in such pivotal, exciting and ground-breaking times for music. Add in the fact that her father owned a guitar shop in which Andrea spent most of her formative years, it was a safe bet that she wasn't going to be pursuing a career in taxidermy. Andrea picked up her first guitar at an unfathomably young age and only continued to grow from strength to strength, constantly exceeding all expectations. Although her guitar playing skills were somewhat aided by her father's knowledge, the rest of the package was completed by Andrea herself with her laser-focused determination and natural talents and showmanship. The powerful, husky and eye-wateringly emotive vocal pipes and the picturesque storytelling lyricism were all pulled from within, practically flooring everyone when they witnessed what this tiny little Texan girl had to offer.
Andrea's earlier works were influences by country, folk and Americana music, pulling from the records that her parents played at home. Armed with a guitar and a hefty Southern drawl that many wannabe country singers often try to emulate but never quite duplicate correctly, it was only natural that Andrea would play to her strengths. Signing a lucrative deal with none other than Studio 60 Records at the tender age of 18, Andrea took the world by storm as the young girl beyond her years. Her throaty, worn-in voice and lyrics that possessed a worldly wisdom which contrasted starkly against her youthful, petite and demure appearance had the masses intrigued. With each passing release, Andrea surely and steadily climbed the charts as her star grew bigger and brighter. Simultaneously, Andrea's dating life whetted the appetites of celebrity gossip blogs and pop culture aficionados alike. A tabloid darling was born.
Although somewhat marred and admittedly a little jaded by the constant scrutiny and interference from the showbiz press, Andrea forged ahead - a recurring theme and personality trait which has garnered her an army of loyal supporters and admirers. With rabid fans of rival acts gnashing at her ankles and the mouth-breathing gossip bloggers hovering over their keyboards just waiting to take her down, Andrea released her debut album and defied all the odds. "In and Out of Consciousness" debuted at #1 on the Chart Heat Hot 20 Albums and received acclaim from publications that were trying to defame her that very same calendar year. The country and pop-rock crossover album allowed for Andrea's talents to shine through, eclipsing any and all celebrity idol fodder.
Andrea's second album "Southern Belle" became one for the history books for a plethora of reasons and, once again, only highlighted her innate drive and determination. Another key aspect of Andrea's artistry that the iconic project also brought to light is that Ms. Mason is a musical chameleon. Andrea's sophomore effort came with a hard pivot in every sense. The long and luscious brunette mane of hair was chopped in favor of a funky, peroxide pixie cut. The twanging of guitars were switched out for the dirtiest hip-hop beats while her outfits...well, they were all pretty much burned to make way for a more 'naturist' way of life. "Southern Belle" saw Andrea tap into her sexuality and newfound freedom as a newly single woman in her twenties. Of course, the stark change in sound and image was not all met with open arms. While many lauded and encouraged her artistic evolution, bravery and fully endorsed her new vision, the naysayers crawled out of the woodwork. Once again, Andrea found herself with a target on her forehead whilst simply trying to live her life and explore her artistry.
Due to many personal reasons in her private life, a slew of singles would be released from "Southern Belle" but the album itself would not see the light of day until 2025 - a whole decade since the era officially kicked off. Despite fighting undisclosed problems behind the scenes for years, Andrea continued to champion her artistic visions, refusing to back down from any pressure and detractors. While conservative groups lambasted her skimpy outfits and sexually charged lyricism, the "Southern Belle" era simultaneously liberated and empowered many on the opposite side with many lauding Andrea's modern take on feminism, body autonomy and the courage she continuously showed in the face of criticism. Although a divisive record and certainly an unconventional one on account of its decade long campaign, "Southern Belle" left a huge mark on pop culture. The album still debuted at #1 despite the long wait, it produced no less than four chart-topping singles and was aided by some of the most visually stimulating and zeitgeist shifting outfits, photoshoots, performances and music videos that the music world has ever witnessed.
So where does that leave Andrea today, after all the peaks and troughs? Firmly in the driver's seat, that's where.
Now in her thirties with a barrage of lessons learned, a lot of trial and error, an expansive knowledge of the industry, and a firm grip on who she is both as a woman and an artist, Andrea is ready to unleash the next chapter upon us. Finding inspiration in club music, Andrea's inserting her newfound sense of self amongst the BPM and letting loose on the dance floor. She knows who she is. She knows what she wants. She knows how to get it. She's not leaving until she has it and the lights come on. Question is, are you ready for the ride? Ms. Mason sure hopes you are, you sexy little thing.
