We all know that pop has been BIG in 2009. Love her or hate her,
Stephanie Fierce has been the name on everyone's lips, and when people haven't been talking about her, it's been
PANIC!,
Madison O'Leary,
Dynamite,
Stephanie Ortiz,
Bikki,
Miss Vanity,
Aurora Fortin, or last but by no means least, didn't your hearts just break up along with
GirlSpice? They were one of those rare artists that you could not hate.
Yes, pop has had a fantastic time, but we at Delta Tau think that the reign is over. With the most famous pop group come to an end, will Stephanie Fierce be pushed aside by Kaethe Jenkins of
K.I.C.K.A.R.S.E. as queen of the music industry? We can't ignore the rise of
Mind, certainly one to keep watching out for, along with
Insolent Paradox, who have been steadily growing. With new thrash bands such as
the strom and
Slaytanik popping up, who knows what the future holds for them? On the prog side of things, one band who should get paid their dues is
The Nimrods. More raw and emotional, and yet technically brilliant music, I have not heard. Also deserving of an honourable mention is
The Black Gates' best of and potential comeback.
It may not be just thrash and prog metal that will take over the industry in 2010. With the very welcome return of melodic death metallers and famous drunks
Transferium Project, music icon
Regan Futrell still going with
Quarantine, and comeback band
VENGEANCE (formerly TYRANT) promising music for every metal fan, 2010 is going to be HEAVY. Will the pop stars suddenly go "goffickal" to fit in? (We know that Miss Vanity's sadly already jumped on that bandwagon. Please, pop stars, stick to what you're good at, even if it doesn't pay the bills next year!)
What is there left to say but - BRING ON THE METAL!
