Tim Dunn of Axiom has recently announced Axiom's intentions to form a jazz combo, currently being called the Jazz All-Stars. Dunn said he is currently looking for musicians who are interested in recording and playing a small handful of shows as a jazz sextet or septet.

"Jazz is an area where great musicians can really flex their creative muscles," said Dunn. "The ability to open up the songs and let the entire band play off each other, the play between the rhythm section and the soloist is always so interesting, or even the play between the soloists."

The list of instruments that Dunn is looking to represent is as follows:
-Drummer: Paul Smith
-Piano: Mike Peck
-Bassist: Harry Thornton (Mind), Jose Lugo
-Doublebass: James D. Kairiri (Firecracker 47)
-Guitarist: Liam (The Lost) Roxana Firecracker (Firecracker 47)
-Trumpet: Brandon Carter
-Tenor Sax: Tim Dunn
-Alto Sax (optional):

Other instruments may be used to guest in on specific songs. The selection process is not first-come first-served. Please reply to this posting to sign up.

As I have an extensive jazz background, before my days in The Black Gates, I'd like to put my hand up for this...I think something like this was supposed to happen a while back with Relaxed Atmosphere...never happened which was a shame. Nice to see this crop up.

I was actually in a jazz band back when I was 11, it was my first band and it was a great experience since I was there for 4 years. I only dropped out when I saw they were making this Heavy Thrash Metal Jazz Band with an eccentric Michael Jackson-ish vocalist who also dances which I thought was a pretty bad and stupid idea. Anyway, just wanted to sign up as a drummer for this band and I think it would be great!!

Tim's responses:

@Paul I can't sign you up without knowing what you would like to play.

@Tristan Thanks for the offer. I was thinking about handling drums myself, but wanted to play it by ear and fill whatever spot is needed. If there is an opening I can see about working you in.

@Harry Welcome aboard.

Aha! Sorry dude! You can never have enough basses in a band though ;) Na but seriously dude I can play: Bass; lead; rhythm; acoustic - pretty much all guitar types! I'm also pretty hand with a piano if you want another one?

I am going to double up. Use different bass players on different tracks. Liam you get to take the guitar.

How could I not take part in this!? We're a jazz fusion band - and as the bassist, I'm kicking myself for not applying earlier! ;) Willing to chip in with bass and/or doublebass if needed. Also, Roxana Firecracker, our guitarist, is nowhere near confident enough to play lead guitar in this (that and it's taken), but she wouldn't mind joining in as an occasional guest guitarist. Jazz is an exciting yet underrated genre of music, and I'm hoping to be given a chance.
-James D. Kairiri, bass, Firecracker 47.

Welcome to the club. Now we just need to find some horn players.

In other news, I am working out a description of the songs that will be included. Since most tracks will only need 1 of each instrument I will allow those instruments that are double or tripled up to choose tracks, and try to spread them evenly. They will also list spots for soloists. Soloists are first come first served and can be anyone associated with the project, even if you are not playing on the track.

I was in the jazz ensemble in my school days. Played 1st trumpet, a couple of solo here and there. I might be a little rusty as I haven't played for about 5 years now, so Brandon might do better. Still, I'd like to play along.
