Outside of the large convention center thousands have gathered and a camera focuses on one man looking out onto the streets of downtown Boston.
"Boston is kinda different from Ithaca, y'know." The man says as a small title card bearing the ALL AROUND THE WORLD logo appears. His name "Peter Hampshire" appears beside the small logo. The camera switches over to a woman standing beside him as the name on the card changes to that of "Lea Martinez".
"You're excited to be here right?" Lea cheerfully asks the man.
"Oh definitely but it's all a little overwhelming. The lights, the people and all the talking. This is more Laura's scene."
speaks the quiet man. He nods as the scene quickly shifts into that of the interior of a building. Inside performers raise up peace signs and cheer as Lea stands near another woman with a titlecard forming once again. "Laura Paige" reads the woman's name.
"You're a couple of seconds away from going up, any idea what you're gonna do." Lea asks Laura who replies with a smirk.
"Play our music and have fun doing it. That's been the plan for the whole event." Laura replies.
The scene cuts once again to the performance room where three judges sit in front of a small stage. One large titlecard forms revealing all their names. "Sean Hope" under a grinning Caucasian man, an African American woman who clearly looks uninterested at the event has the name "Alexis Smith" form near her and finally to the right of her is a man who looks pretty darn interested for today's performances, "John Thomas".
Peter sets plugs his guitar in his amp and begins to tune it as Laura sits down and picks up her sticks before adjusting her microphone.
"You guys are?" Alexis asks with noticeable venom in her voice.
"We're Book of Love." Peter says briefly speaking in the microphone before finishing his tuning. "and we're also ready to start."
"What song will you be playing?" John queries the duo.
"Alright, this is Teenage Riot by Sonic Youth." Peter says before he begins the opening notes of the song. He then begins to sing in almost a whisper.
You're it
No, you're it
Hey, you're really it
You're it
No I mean it, you're it
Say it
Don't spray it
Spirit desire
Spirit desire
Spirit desire
We will fall
Miss me
Don't dismiss me
Spirit desire
Spirit desire Spirit desire Spirit desire
We will fall
Spirit desire
We will fall
Spirit desire Spirit desire Spirit desire
We will fall
Spirit desire
We will fall
The tempo of the music changes as Peter backs away from his mic. The tempo shifts into a faster one as Laura leans closer to her Mic.
Everybody's talking 'bout the stormy weather
And what's a man do to but work out whether it's true?
Looking for a man with a focus and a temper
Who can open up a map and see between one and two
Time to get it
Before you let it
Get to you
Here he comes now
Stick to your guns
And let him through
Everybody's coming from the winter vacation
Taking in the sun in a exaltation to you
You come running in on platform shoes
With Marshall stacks
To at least just give us a clue
Ah, here it comes
I know it's someone I knew
Teenage riot in a public station
Gonna fight and tear it up in a hypernation for you
Now I see it
I think I'll leave it out of the way
Now I come near you
And it's not clear why you fade away
Looking for a ride to your secret location
Where the kids are setting up a free-speed nation, for you
Got a foghorn and a drum and a hammer that's rockin'
And a cord and a pedal and a lock, that'll do me for now
It better work out
I hope it works out my way
'Cause it's getting kind of quiet in my city's head
Takes a teen age riot to get me out of bed right now
You better look it
We're gonna shake it
Up to him
He acts the hero
We paint a zero
On his hand
We know it's down
We know it's bound too loose
Everybody's sound is round it
Everybody wants to be proud to choose
So who's to take the blame for the stormy weather
You're never gonna stop all the teenage leather and booze
It's time to go round
A one man showdown
Teach us how to fail
We're off the streets now
And back on the road
On the riot trail
The song ends as everyone except for Alexis claps.
"What inspired the choice?" Sean asks the two.
"We've always been big fans of Sonic Youth and we thought, what better song to play than "Teenage Riot"." Laura answers quickly.
"I'm gonna be blunt here..." Alexis begins, "Laura's singing and drumming were on point but I didn't think Pete did a good job when it came to the intro. Not to mention he missed a few notes. I'm really unsure about what to say here other than lose the zero and become the hero here Laura."
Peter frowns and shakes his head at the statements made while Laura also drops her. "Lose as a team." She whispers to herself.
"I thought it was quite good actually, sure it needed work but what amateur doesn't?" John chimes in.
"I'm actually broken when it comes to you, there are parts I liked and parts I didn't. Laura obviously isn't Thurston Moore and Peter isn't Kim Gordon. Maybe this was the wrong song...I'm gonna leave this for the callbacks. We'll think about it." Peter drops his guitar and walks off the stage as Laura gets up and leaves as well.
