I'm rather looking forward to the new Iron Maiden album and their tour with Dream Theater. I know the view towards DT here, but fuck it, I like 'em. Also, Mastodon, Baroness and Between the Buried and Me touring North America soon? And Megadeth touring for Rust In Peace?! Holy shit, so great. I already have tickets for the RIP tour; so excited!

Age of Silence and Ninfosure are great black metal bands. AoS dunno if they would necessarily be great progressive, but definitely Ninfosure.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting drunk with friends during Dt's set and showing for Maiden, which will undeniably be incredible. Nothing beats thousands of drunken metal heads singing along to Aces High. Hopefully I'll be seeing Mastodon for the Volcom Tour, and although I couldn't get to the RIP tour, I've got tickets for the Slayer/Megadeth show, if only Exodus was the opener instead of Testament.

I doubt Age of Silence could be considered as black metal, good band anyhow, same thing with Ihsahn and Peccatum. Ihsahn's solo stuff is great. Specially After. And the Iron Maiden album's title sucks. I hope the album is ok.

I dont think they'll be playing old songs, they said next tours would be based on their records released since Brave New World, and what's wrong with Testament.

First off, damn, their older stuff is undeniably their best. And there's nothing wrong with Testament, it's just I've seen them 3 times, and I prefer Exodus, who are the other opening band on the RIP tour.

Testament is way better. I honestly can't think of a bad Testament album, while the same cannot be said for Exodus (their recent material has been knd of, dare I say it?, boring). Also, holy fuck, After is out? Man, I need to grab that.

Yup, the 2008 tour was supposed to be the last one where they would play old songs. I love A Matter of Live and Death, but Dance of Death is just a fucking snooze fest. That said, I'm still pretty excited about the new one. I've been thinking about saving up some cash and going to the show at Madison Square Garden. Too bad transatlantic tickets are damn expensive.

Now that we're talking bout IRON MAIDEN, what's everyone's favorite MAIDEN disc? The first one is my favorite, but each and every one of the first seven LPs is just a classic.

So I'll give you the correct answer.

Is Powerslave.

Honestly, it took me a long time to fully appreciate post-1981 MAIDEN. I first heard them a good fifteen years ago, and only since last summer I've been really into everything they did with good ol' Bruce Bruce.

Powerslave bores me in parts. Losfer Words and Flash of the Blade are good, and Back in the Village is just plain filler. Rime of the Ancient Mariner on the other hand is one of the finest songs they ever did.Still an amazing album though.

I miss this thread! Recently I've been listening to more Gorguts, who are an acquired taste but great! Also who knew Jaska from Children of Bodom had chops? Some of the shit he does here reminds me of Tomas Haake with the jazzy hi hat polyrhythms.

Recently I've come to the conclusion that most metal music is fucking awful.

I mean there's plenty of great bands, but it's kind of stagnating right now. Certainly outwith black metal it's all shit I've heard before.

Definitely! Metal died after the 90's early 2000's at the best. I only get the occasional amazing record. Such as Suffocation's Blood Oath, and both of the albums from The Faceless. Obzen from Meshuggah was good too.

What I predict will happen to metal in the following decade or so is, 1. Die out, or, more preferably, be totally remodeled into something new and un-heard of, just like the total remodeling of punk into alternative by the grunge bands of the early 90's. I'm hopeful, partly because that hope is basically what I make my living off of.

After getting Anata's discography and Spawn of Possesion's I've decided Sweden really knows what it's doing when it comes to tech-death. At the moment them,Poland, and of course Canada are my favorite metal countries.
