 CHILDHOOD YEARSMany of you know Nicole Woods as the 18 year old singer in the band Suburban Sunrise. People may pres-eve her as a stuck up bitch but its time for people to hear her story. Sierra was born and raised in San Diego California. She was born into a normal family(Mom, Dad, Sister). Her mom and dad got a divorce when she was 4 and her mom was re-married when Nicole was only 6. Her older sister Katrina is only 2 years older then her and was the typical older sister. She would always pick on Nicole and do things that all siblings do. When Nicole was 7 she entered her middle school talent show and sang "Hit me baby" by Brittany Speers. She came in third in the talent contest and that is when she really wanted to begin singing. At age 9 Nicole's mom moved out of state to St. Petersburg Florida. Once her mom moved Nicole remained in San Diego and moved in with her Dad. When Nicole was in the 4th grade a boy by the name of Matt Urie moved to San Diego and lived in the same Apartment complex that Nicole did and went to her school as well. When Matt moved into San Diego he wasn't liked by many of the kids in their class. Nicole was one of the only kids who accepted Matt.(Apart from Nick). At age 12 Nicole's dad re-married. The re-marriage had a small effect on Nicole's relationship with her dad because in order for her dad to even date a lady he had to have Nicole's "ok."Statement From Nicole about her early childhood yearsI feel like I actually had a normal childhood apart from my mom and dad getting a divorce and my mom moving away to Florida and leaving me to live with my dad. When I met Matt I am not going to lie I automatically got the biggest crush on him. I wasn't liked by any of the kids in our class alot of them were typical girls who played with barbies and wanted to be just like their moms and then there was me. I wanted to play with worms, wear jeans, and play football. No I wasn't a five year old lesbian either I just really wasn't into all that girlly stuff. But ever since I first met Matt way back when he has been my best friend of all time. 8TH GRADE YEARWhen Nicole hit 14 and was in the 8th grade many of the girls started rumors calling her a lesbian and a slut. Many of the kids would make fun of her and when that happened Nicole went into a very strong depression and attempted to hang herself in her room. Matt(who's apartment was bellow Nicole's) heard a big band above his room and he went up stairs to see if everyone was ok. Matt checked the rooms and when he looked into Nicole's room he saw the 14 year old hanging from a rope by the neck. He immediately ran over to her and untied the rope. When asked why she was doing that she answered "I'm sick of all the bitches at school making fun of me. I cant take it anymore no one loves me you should have left me hanging." When she gave him that answer he looked at her and told her that she is a dumbass for thinking that no one loves her. He told her that she has him, her dad, and her sister that are always there for her. After the attempted suicide Nicole was able to finish out her 8th grade year. The girls never stopped harassing her during the year.Statement by MattYa I can remember the day I saw her hanging in her room. It scared the shit out of me. I thought that she was already gone but I was lucky enough to get her down before she died. She has always been and probably always will be my best friend. During the young years when I first met her I did think she was cute and liked her and in all honesty still do have a little bit of feelings for her.  (Nicole and Nick) High School YearsAs Nicole turned 15 and began high school things just kept looking down for the young teen. Girls continued to make fun of her and give her a hard time. During her freshman year a girl actually went up to Nicole, Slapped her and tackled her to the ground. Both girls were suspended. Nicole's only friends were Matt, Nick, Dylan, Jenny(Old Singer), and Charlie(Old guitarist). The five of them stayed to themselves and only stayed within their little group. While Matt and Nick were in the beginning of Suburban Sunrise Nicole began recording solo demo's and sending them out to recording studio's but never heard anything back from them. She performed a few shows by herself performing her solo pop songs that she had recorded. Sophomore Year: Nicole was 16 going into her sophomore year and was envying Jenny's role in Suburban Sunrise. Nicole has admitted to always wanting to be apart of Suburban Sunrise but the band was started before Matt was even apart of the band. While Nicole focussed on her solo music she asked Matt to help record with her on her solo EP. Matt recorded guitar and vocals on two of her tracks. While Nicole was running her solo project she played shows opening for Suburban Sunrise at small local venues. During school Nicole was still made fun of by people at the school and called a slut(For your info she has never had a BF at this point). Nicole had just about had it with everything. When Nicole and Matt were relaxing and watching tv Nicole asked Matt to shot her. Matt replied by telling her to quit thinking of death and look more on the brighter side of things. Junior Year: Nicole was 17 going into her junior year of high school. Matt, Jenny and Charlie were in their senior year but dropped out to go on SS's first tour. When Jenny, Charlie, and Matt left Nicole was left on her own(Nick had graduated the year before). The attacks from other girls kept getting worse and worse. No one would leave her alone because no one was there to help defend her. In the middle of her Junior year Nicole came home from school and saw her mom sitting in her kitchen. Nicole was absolutely appalled when she saw her mother because she had not seen her mom since she moved to Florida. Her mom explained that she wanted to move back to San Diego and help fix their broken relationship. Nicole accepted her mom's apology and she moved back to SD. Summer of Junior year/end of high school: In the summer of 2010 Nicole was hanging out with Matt and Nick when Matt told Nicole about Alex and Joe leaving Suburban Sunrise and that they weren't sure if they were going to continue with the band. Nick then asked her if she was still singing. She told them that she was still singing but things were starting to wind down and that she was beginning to give up on her singing career. Matt stood up as fast as he could and yelled I have an idea! He then told Nick, Nicole, and Dylan that Nicole should be vocals in the band and start up with a new sound. All the members agreed and Nicole became a member of the band. Nicole then dropped out of high school and didnt have to deal with the bullies at the school.Statement from Nick and NicoleNick: Nicole was really chill in high school. Alot more relaxed then she is now. She was always bullied for no apparent reason and she didnt have any reason to be bullied. I think it was because she was one of the prettier and more down to earth girls in the school that the cheerleaders and popular girls felt threatened by her.Nicole: I try not to think about the high school years because they were the worst out of all the time at school. The girls were bitches to me and the guys were dicks to me. No guy really was into me and the only person that wanted to date me was the five year old neighbor I had. When my mom came back from Florida I was so fucken confused it wasn't even funny. At first I was mad that she came back because how can you expect someone that has been come for more then 10 years of your life just come back and expect everything to be good. But as time went on I learned to accept her back and grew really close to her. When Matt asked me to join the band I was so happy. I didnt have to go to school and deal with the assholes from there. It just made everything so much easier |
