I've liked this guy since probably late spring, right before school ended. He's a rapper who's been around for about 5-6 years. He mainly raps about weed and women, which annoys me with other rappers but for some reason I enjoy his music quite a bit. Here's my favorite song from him, he's been getting lots of hype recently.

I think his lyricism is pretty sick.

I started listening to his music this past Summer after I heard him on Wale's More About Nothing mixtape, so far I've listened to his two more recent mixtapes, Burn After Rolling and Kush and Orange Juice, and his second independently released studio album Deal or No Deal. I honestly prefer the music he makes for his mixtapes, from what I've heard on his studio album and his debut major label single Black and Yellow. I get that he can make both sick lyricism and rhymes and also radio-friendly songs, so he'll probably have mainstream success either way. My favorite songs from him and probably, This Plane, Mezmorized , and Timeless.

All of his mixtapes are better than his album, he has 7 so it's likely that they would be. My favorites would have to be In the Cut, Mezmorized, Still Blazin (the original is AMAZING), B.A.R, If I Were a Lame, and Black and Yellow. Meet New People is awesome too. His How Fly mixtape with Curren$y is awesome too. Listen to that and his Flight School mixtape.

So he's sampled the intro to Pink Floyd's Keep Talking, in the modern sense of sampling -ie. by cutting up an existing song to be the entire basis of the track, and then rapping over it.

Sampling is normal nowadays, sometimes sampling even elaborates more on the song. Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth's rap elaborated more on Tom Scott's Today:

There is a difference between sampling and using an entire song and rapping over it. Sampling is an artform. The latter however is lazy and uncreative.

An example of creative sampling would be Dangermouse's Grey Album

And sometimes not so much. And I say if you're going down that route, go obscure, don't go already well-known song.

Curren$y shouldn't be considered his sidekick though, lyrically Spitta shits on him and so does Mac Miller.

As far as beats go though, the majority of the Burn After Rolling mixtape is using beats from someone else, almost like a cover album beat wise. He's done more creative stuff though, he as a song called "Wuzzup" where the beat is made by him beatboxing which is then looped, the only downside is it's one beat consistently, luckily the songs only like 1:45.
