I agree with you on so many things but I disagree or back track at the same time. Especially with the metal music comment. While I'm not a fan of metal (in the sense that it doesn't appeal to me, my personal preference) I know for a fact there is much more to metal than what it seems. It just depends on what band you listen to. But I do agree that metal has been a bore fest this year, so many of the true metal bands seem to not make music anymore and all the new ones have sold out to appeal to the mainstream audience. There's not sort of creativity or raw spirit in metal music lately. Just like some of us pop artist, the metal bands these days just want to focus and being praised rather than just making music.

As I said it depends on what metal band you listen to. But if we're talking about the spirit of metal itself, then it's not there for me. Most of the metal bands making music now are trying too hard to be different or to appeal to masses, that they lose touch of what is real, original and what is raw. That's just my opinion.

At this point almost everything has been talked about. It's always about the purpose of your music is. If the purpose is to make a dance song for everyone to dance to, then obviously you can't expect the song to touch on many things. If the purpose of the song is to teach or persuade someone something, then you can expect the song to have more depth and structure. That's why I say, why the hell would you judge a dance pop artists on what they are talking about instead of the delivery in the particular genre of the song, which is pop-dance. That doesn't mean the song gets a 5 star rating automatically (because you can always be unique), but you have to take those things into consideration since not everyone was born to do metal or make music that has depth. Same thing thing with a metal lover's perspective.

Instead of separating yourself from other genres, why don't you just make a difference. If you can talk the talk, you should be able to walk the walk. Right?

Totally understand and get where you're coming from. Also, I can wake up one day and say I'm going to do metal, but obviously if I'm not inspired by the sound or the genre, I'm going to look like a wannabe and even if I was (inspired by the sound or the genre) I still would look like a wannabe since people are used to seeing me do more pop, r&b, rock influenced records. You do music that the sound can inspire you.

Always happy to see someone go from a genre I don't like to one I do. I like the way you seem turned on by new ideas, mixing it up and making music 'fresh'. We here at Pilot are coming up with some new ideas for how music could operate, looking to shake up the rules a bit.
