Mercury Facade single will be JR Rhythms first solo single. It will be a blend of electric jazz/synth/and bit of rock. The single will
feature the songs,
Velvet Murders, Satin Rain, & Mercury Facade.THE MIX MUSIC MagazineSitting alone in his study, smoking a cigarette and holding a cup of coffee, is JR Rhythm. On his oak desk is the biography of Herbie Hancock. I am sitting across on a leather sofa, admiring a master at rest. But at rest is where JR feels the most creative.
JR: "At times I feel that when I am in the final stages of a deep sleep, or when I am comfortably at rest, I get a jolt of creativity.
MIX: So it's almost a curse?
JR: (Laughs) I wouldn't say that. I'll sleep when I'm dead. I rather love the process. It choice me, not I, it. I am thankful.MIX: Did Mercury Facade come up the same way? It is a far step from your norm..."
JR: Jazz and the mixture of the synth has always ruled my interior creative mind. I mean it's such a powerful mix. Stuff from the Electric Jazz Lounge are my favorite. It's a cerebral attack that can paint a vivid image of whatever you are trying to betray. Back in my early years with The Bards, the Frost years, we always talked about Jazz, we hailed it
and we got high off it. But for some reason we never took it to the next level. We never found a reason to attempt to make the next step. The closet we came to was after he died. Electric Highway was more of a pop/synth sound. Summer Wind is a motif off of Miles Davis work but not a jazz sound at all. Just the mood, ya see? But yeah I came up with this idea for Mercury Facade while dreaming. I saw a rainstorm. Velvet curtains and a face of mercury... Strange but wonderful.
MIX: What can you tell us about the single? Anything...
JR: Well if you take Owl City/Miles Davis and dip that into me this is what you get. The entire single has only about a page of lyrics. Velvet Murders is a dark sound that has only a single line, "And the knife in the dark sparked". I wanted to have the focus on the mood and feel of the music not the lyrics. Which is what The Bards do. This is me. This is new. Besides that the single will be coming out Nov 7th.
MIX: How did the band take to your solo effort?
JR: They are all game. The love the fusion of what I'm doing. They actually brought up the idea of The Bards doing a Jazz album. (laughs) that would be great. Probably not a best seller but great from an aesthetic point of view. [/i]
And with that I left JR to his creative pool. The anticipation of this single has grown on me. The simple cover art. The mix of genre. The magic within Jazz. All this and JR Rhythm.
