Anyone remember this lot!?
.... no, me neither, but the names 'Mikki Moo', 'Chris Pratt' and 'Firecracker' ring a few bells. In The Cold You Look So Fierce, founded in 2009 by the late Suzana Spears, eldest daughter of Kasia van Mouschi, featured Su herself, Misty 'Mikki' Moo of Firecracker 47 and Nightside Bikithan fame, Chris Pratt of Moronic Changeling and Disjointed Divas fame, Joshy and Roxy's baby sister Molly and some dude called Colin who was in the right place at the right time. Both Mikki and Chris wanted to do some side work, and the band gelled very well. Unfortunately, they only released one single and did a bit of soundtrack work before all but Mikki died in 7/4. However, it wasn't just those three songs that they recorded. They recorded two five-track half-albums - dubbed 'The Cold Tapes' and 'The Fierce Tapes'. The latter are better known, as some of the tracks were included in the soundtrack to the movie 'Fierce'. The former were only heard by the band, their producer (Katie Kairiri) and their bosses (Jimmy Bishop and Kasia van Mouschi). So what does this mean for Mikki, the last one standing? "I stumbled upon these tapes the other day, I was just cleaning the house and a cupboard fell open with loads of stuff in it, and I was like, FUCK!" she says. "I started putting it all away, most of it was crap, also known as Roxy's stuff. But then, this box fell out that I hadn't seen for years. It caught my eye because it had a picture of Chris and me on it. "I handled it with care, played the CDs and realised that with a little extra production, this would be releasable material. It was like a 'Eureka!' moment. Being as I'm the only band member left, I have the rights to this material. Seven of these songs have never seen the light of day, and - to be honest, they need to. Su and Colin could have been legends, Molly is as talented as Roxy any day, and Chris .... well, Chris was Chris. He was like Joshy but less of a bizatchen - impossible NOT to love, and one of the biggest talents of the era, in the heyday of Rebel Uprising, Quarantine and Raven Storme/Comatose, when Stephanie Fierce and Miss Vanity, along with my own, were new names. Can you imagine a time like that? Well, it existed! "I don't know the release date yet, probably early December. But those songs WILL come out. Su, Colin, Molly and especially Chris deserve it."
