In the world of music, leaked songs occur just about every day. Today is just like any other, as two new songs have appeared on the internet. What makes ‘Smiling Faces’ and ‘Oceans’ so special are the men behind the songs; both are a collaboration between Eric Quillington (Infinite), and Jason Smith (Mind). Although much of the information of this so-called ‘project’ (including the name) is being withdrawn, Quillington sat down with us for a brief interview to talk about 'Project: Prometheus. What can you say about the nature of this collaboration?
Well, it’s not just a one-time fling. This is the real deal, a fully-dedicated band comprised of Jason and I. During the recording of Midnight Skies, of which Jason was a producer for, him and I began to talk half-heartedly about forming a supergroup. These ideas soon became so concrete, and us working together seemed like such a logical step to make. Of course, these types of bands don't usually last long, and most of the attention is usually focused on the famous members of the band. The music is usually completely ignored with those bands, so Jason and I wanted to break the cliche. This new band is every bit as 'real as Mind and Infinite, and it's here to stay. We will never be just a gimmick.
What'll this band be called?
"Project: Prometheus. Has an air of mystery to it, as well as simply sounding pretty damn cool. It fits the style of our music pretty well."
Will your work in this new band be any different from Infinite?
"Hell yeah, man; there’s no point otherwise. It’ll sound vague saying this, but the music is much more emotional than my others. I’ve always had that layer of cynicism and sarcasm to hide the true meanings of many Infinite songs, but Jason’s helped bring out a different side to my song-writing. The lyrical subject matters are very epic and broad, and slightly over-the-top. Death, fame, Rapture... these songs have it all. Each song has is in it's own genre; no two sound the same. All I can really say is this; we're making the soundtrack of the apocalypse."
When can the public expect a release date of any material by this band?
"We're starting to really focus on our debut album, and already have a couple songs written for it; Event Horizon, Oceans, Smiling Faces... not going to ruin all the titles right now, but you get the point. We've just recently decided on the title of 'Dividing Divinity' for the album. It comes from a lyric to one of Jason's songs, and is fucking brilliant. It's still too early to tell, but we're aiming for a release date of next year. More information is still to come, and I apologize for sounding vague and cryptic at the moment."
Smiling Faces
“What’s the point of living if you never get what you wish for?” You whimper to me softly, listening to your stomach rumbling It might sound premature, but I wonder how we’ll make it without stumbling Never fear of poverty, pennies will turn to quarters soon enough It’ll be worth it to hear you laugh in the end
Famine, starvation, and desperation purify the soul I’ll try not to shake the boat as I row Stab my back if I go against the flow
“The best day that we’ll ever have is when tomorrow finally comes” You moan to yourself softly, as we fight over dirt Rays of light come from the most unexpected sources, easily withdrawn As a corpse in the river revealed; optimism is a blessing, and we’ll all float on Call the lawyers, and the sun will rise
Self-indulgences and the fountain of youth corrupt the soul I’ll try not to shake the boat as I row Stab my back if I go against the flow
“What’s the point of living if you’ll never hear me wish for more?” You whisper to me softly, sitting on your throne of gold Seeing loss of innocence, I left before my soul was sold It was the best day that I ever had; tomorrow never came What’s the point of living if there’s nothing to complain about?
(Editor's Notes: 'Smiling Faces' was written mainly by Eric Quillington, and features some of the trademark sarcasm made famous through his work in Infinite. The demo of this is a simple acoustic one, but Quillington has stated that the final version has a much more complicated sound.) Part 2: Interview with Jason Smith (and the lyrics to 'Ocean') will be posted soon! Edited by user 20 November 2010 07:47:02(UTC)
