Al Young hopes to stage the comeback after an stint in prison. Better know to his fans as Rel, Young has declared his return and expects to move from an underground artist to a platinum-selling artist. With a new found focus, Rel says his album is about anperiod in his lifethat he was going through so much that he wanted to die. Remember Me: My Sucide Note , his new album, has all the makings of an great album including good song concepts, good production, and a couple of great collaborations I haven't heard any new music from you since anything from you since you've been out of jail. What have you been up to because lately? Rel: The whole jail situation was an major blow to my buzz. Before I went to jail I was doing good. I had just came off my first nationwide tour. I was just getting noticed by alot of people and my album was just about to come out too. So that what a good time. Then my jail time slowed down everything that I had worked to build. So I've been out just touring. Really reconnecting with my fans and working to get bigger than I was before i went in.
I heard an song with you & Brittany Knox on it. She's one the hottest young stars out now.How did you hook up with Brittany Knox?
Rel: That song is called "Young Love". She's doing her thing right now. I recieved the track from my producer and when i wrote the song it was missing something. It needed a singer but I didn't want just any singer. Then my producer is like he knowns Brittany Knox and her camp. He gave me the number and I called. When I called she was about to do an show but I quickly told her the concept of the song. She didn't say confirm that she would do the song or nothing at first. She said that she would think about it. Then I think like three days later I was in a recording studio in New York and she just walked in on my session and said "Let's make this happen".
Before you made your In My Life mixtape, you still had coast to coast hood buzz without radio play nor promotion. How did you make that happen? Rel: I made songs about what i knew like my life, what I have did, and things I've seen. My fanbase just really connected with my material because I guess they could relate. From there I just made sure I never change and worked hard. I would do shows in the most shittest clubs ever and I think that fans respect that because sometimes I would be the one artist performing. Local artist from that city wouldn't even perform. I didn't care Isaw it as an outlet to gain more fans.
What are some interesting facts that people probably wouldn't know about you? Rel: I recently just became an father. I have an daughter named Alexus. That's my whole world. She's six months old now.
Compared to your mixtape, you stayed close to home with familiar producers. On your album you seem to be branching out more. What direction are you going with this album as far production? Rel: I was so busy on my tour that I didn't have time to go around collecting beats from producers. So I told my manager to get me a bunch of beats from different producer that I would like. He did an great job with the beats..I was very satisified. Is there anybody that you would like to work with but didn't get the chance to make it happen? Rel: Stephanie Fierce. I found out about her death while I was locked up. I couldn't believe it..that she was gone. I actually asked Shantel to come to the studio so we could get something done but it just didn't happen. I just want to put this out there too. I don't have anything against Shantel. I respect her and her music and thats real. That whole beef thing was nothing but some industry bullshit.
Did you have a set out a format or structure for your albums and if so, how close did it end up being to what you originally planned? Rel: I record my music simple off of emotions. Depending on how I feel at that time is what kind of song you will get from me. So really wasn't no way to plan out how my album would end up until I finish recording. I was surprised but excited by how it came out.
To the fans that are waiting for this album to drop, what can you say they're in stored for? Rel: They're gonna get a lot of knowledge and an indepth look into my life. They girls are going to love it because I have a couple songs on there from them. The average dude thats runnin' those streets is going to be able to relate to it as well. Even the dude that isn't from the hood is going to like it because everyone has problemIt reaches all levels with this album. It's just real life music.
If you can give advice to anybody coming into their passion- basically just like you, what advice would you give them? Rel: Just stay focus and deciated. Believe in yourself even when nobody else does.
Any last words for the fans ? Rel: Go get the the album and support YRMG. Edited by user 23 November 2010 13:40:56(UTC)

OOC: I'm not starting anything but about the Collab I told you I'm not sure about it with Brittany because Brit is currently in a different musical genre and she wouldn't do this type of feature. I mean I guess ill just let her be on the track but next time just make sure I'm ok with the collab, no hard feelings just brittany isn't a hip hop artist, not even when it comes to features. Matty was months ago when Brit first came around. Btw thanks for the kind words about Brittany :) Edited by user 23 November 2010 14:42:26(UTC)
