How did the situation with you and Rel come about?
Monte: He had hear of my music through my cousin Trell. Then next thing I now I'm sitting in an meeting with Rel and a couple of lawyers. Three hours later I'm signed to YRMG. Everything happened so quick. The deal turned out to be an great situation.
How would you compare Fashionably Late and your upcoming album Monte Carlos SS?
Monte Carlos: Fashionably Late is just me having fun and showcasing my talent. The album will be the same thing just on an bigger scale.
From your experience in the music industry so far what would you say to an up and coming artist trying to get a buzz and land a record deal?
Monte Carlos: Stay focus and constantly polish your craft. Make sure your business side is as important as your music side. Hard work will eventually pay off. So keep at it.
Years from now when you decide to put up the Mic what do you want to fans to stay that Monte Carlos brought to the game?
Monte: Another lane. You don't have to be like everyone else. I want people to remember me for being myself and being real.
In recording Fashionably Late, we heard you ditched the south for a northern state?
Monte Carlos:Yeah, I actually recorded it in New York at 1727 Studios. I just liked the vibe up there musically. So I decided to just stay up there for like 3 weeks and that's were I recorded the whole mixtape.
Has Rel tried to switch your music up or suggest you to do this song rather than that one?
Monte Carlos:Not at all, and that’s the beauty of this. He already understands what my aspect on things are and he wouldn't have signed me if he didn't, As soon as you suggest somethin’ to me, I can’t do it, like, immediately. As soon as you think I should do somethin’, that’s exactly what I can’t do. I don't trust nobody's opinion but mine musically. I'm just so confident in my abilty as an artist
How is your relationship with Trell since he left YRMG?
Monte; That's my cousin. So were family first. We will always be cool plus even though he's not signed with us he's still YRMG. He still comes around and records material with me & Rel. I think Rel is actually trying to sign him back..I'm not sure tho.
What’s the chemistry like between you and Rel?
Monte Carlos: When were together in the studio. It isn't even work. We have fun and just make great music.
