Those Meddling Kids release their latest single from their newest tribute album to Sublime! We were able to reach Johnny for comment on each recording and his thoughts on the new release entirely.

Track Listing:
What I Got- Single
We went in the studio with one thought in mind when we set out to record this single with every ounce of creative effort that we could muster up. We spent a few hours listening to the original tracks before we went into the studio anyway. This has song has always been my favorite Sublime tune next to Santeria. I wanted to put down the reprise acoustic version and try to throw in a two part harmony with the electric guitar over top of it. Then we had a friend of ours come in and lay down some turn table scratch and stuff. There was a lot of study going into this album to get the right sound to not take anything away from Sublime and Bradley in order to do his memory justice. I was glad this song came out the way it did.

Santeria- bside1

It wasn't the guitar work that we had problems with actually for this song. I had Joe behind me to keep that Brad's reggae inspired rhythm while I played over the leads which we wanted to feature just as much as the awesome bass work on this track. The hardest part of this song for me was really trying to channel Brad's vocals to make it sound just right. His singing voice was all his own and I did my best to try get my pipes to work like his. I didn't think the Bradley Nowell in me decided to come out to play until after the second verse. But once that guitar solo hit we were grooving then I think that was when I really got that inspired vocal sound that he had. I nailed the last lines spot on and everybody in the studio was like yeah, that was absolutely perfect.

Badfish- bside2

I actually did this one completely acoustic with Joe and it came out just how we wanted it. Again Brad's vocals were a challenge. But we had fun on this song. You can hear it in the song because when Joe has the groove on you know it's good. Sometimes he tries to be composed in the studio and takes it more seriously because he lets loose more when we're on tour. But when I hit the solo toward the end. I hear him behind me going "Aw shit, Johnny..... Beautiful...." I look back and he's standing up out of his chair swaying. Then there was no question in doing another take. We nailed it right there.

The entire recording process and making the music for this new single was not only fun but a challenge for us. Because we studied all the tracks extensively to get the nuances and uniqueness that Sublime had before we put some of our own spin into it while not taking away from the original recordings. Though the real challenge for me was studying Bradley for this entire process. He's always been a big influence for me and I think I came out of this experience learning more about him musically than I first expected. We put 110 percent into recording this single and plan to do the same with the album. Not only are we having fun doing it but we really think we're doing our best to pay homage to one of our biggest influences. I hope Brad's smiling down on us for this entire process. Because this for him if anything else. I can't wait to record the album!
