Planes, Trains and Automobiles: The Bandmates That Traversed Culture
by Michael Hawk

I walked into the 'VERVE' recording studio where Gears of Bremen had been staying for the last couple of weeks. They had finished the recording their new, "GALAXY ARMADA 7777: Destroy the Final Frontier! EP" and were revving up for a small release party and advertising for a support slot on a tour where they could record a new Live EP that would be the second and final prelude to their debut album. I was to talk to the bandmembers one by one...so I started with Winston Marsh.

"I was waiting in a cold dark room at 5 AM." He started while we stood around a posh waiting room. "I was tired, I was freezing and I think I might've had an erection. It was the morning. Anyway then Hammer walks in, guitar in hand and he tells me: 'Take off the pants.' Now the first thing I thought was, 'Oh god! The 60 year old German is gonna rape me.' I still took off my pants though, I'm fucked up like that. Anyway, then he threw the guitar over at me and had four escorts he order walk in and laugh at me. Then he told me to play while they were laughing. That's how my month was in a nutshell. I was a roadie and fucking embarrassment at 5 AM. After three weeks of crying myself to sleep, I decided fuck it and began to play whatever riffs I wanted to. After that....I think I still cried myself to sleep."

"The first week was awful." Renee began, wearing a very fine dress I might add. "The House scene...isn't my scene. The bands were snobby, playing music that I didn't quite like. It was the second week where I found Don Achello. He was hanging around the homeless shelter when my sister told me about the Homeless Orchestra. I began to practice with the Don and we began to play together when he revealed to me why he went homeless. After months of working he became disgusted with his previous pieces and spiraled into insanity looking for 'Mélodie parfaite' or the 'Perfect Melody'. Afterwards he wasted all his money and he was. He seemed happy..."

"Vietnam was....confusing." Paul Glover began, he eyes shifted around every so often. "The farming was fun but all in all the city was confusing with the roads and all. I mean...fuck I lost my train of thought. Well anyhow, Trinidad was different. Being in a calypso band is different from being in a bizzaro Prog. Metal band. In a Calypso band you have to be more precise to get the right type of sound out of the drums. If not you sound like a fucking idiot."
