                Looking for a few new bands to add to my playlist for a few genres:
 Hip-Hop (I already listen to):
 Kanye West
 Jay-Z
 OFWGKTA
 Cannibal Ox
 MF DOOM
 Jaydilla
 Madlib

 Progressive Metal (I already listen to):
 Cloudkicker
 Between the Buried and Me
 Dream Theater
 Meshuggah
 Periphery

 How about some Thrash Metal too?

 So if you can recommend a few good bands, even a few good indie rock ones, I would appreciate it.

                @GK:Never heard of Sylosis, so they go on my list. Thanks.

 @RJF:
 I've listened to J.Cole before and he's not my cup of tea. Feels a little too much like Drake who I left behind for Childish Gambino. Thanks anyway, though :)

 @Laurelles:
 I've listened to and like Francis, Thumbs up on the Devin Townsend and Wolf Parade is fucking magnificent but I've already got them on my playlist. Thanks for 'The Interbeing' though. Never heard of them so they go on the list.

                For metal I'd also suggest giving Protest The Hero and Unearth a go. You've probably heard of both, but they do brilliant things with guitars and they're really different from like generic crap lol.

                Protest the Hero is a nice band, usually the biggest criticism I get about them are about the lead singer's vocals. Unearth though, I've heard about but never listened to. Gonna try them. |

                @RJF: They sound sorta alike to me, I don't know, people at my school have been blasting Take Care so much that I'm sick of it. So I automatically start comparing every rapper to Drake. Usually when I look for Hip-Hop, I'm either looking for a rapper whose like: A.) Childish Gambino/MF Doom - Great with lyricism and wordplay overall (i.e. CG usually references literary pieces in his songs):
 B.) OFWGKTA/Die Antwoord - Completely insane and outrageous. C.) Jaylib/Madvillian - Laid back and nice with beats. --- @Laurelles: Never heard of any of these guys so I'll give 'em a try. Have a feeling that McPherson might be like "Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly." |

                For indie rock, looks no further than The Maine. Their early material was more rock, but listen to their new album Pioneer.. it is a masterpiece. Self-released and could really put a hole in the wall if enough people catch on. I've been bumming this band lately.. the new album is certainly one of my top.
 Also, try Pegasus Bridge, Brighten, The Vaccines and The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. They are some good ones that i can think off at the moment.

                @Insano: I try my very hardest to stay out of the Black Metal scene. I must've heard a Mayhem song or something when I was younger but it puts me off besides the seldom Wolves in the Throne Room track. I will try Bone Gnawer out good sir, so thank you.
 @McKenzie: I've listened to The Maine before and it just didn't last with me. Don't quite like them, I will check out Pegasus Bridge and Brighten though because I quite enjoy The Vaccines and Pains of Being Pure at Heart. I was supposed to see the latter in November but it fell apart.

 You don't need to worry about the 'black metal scene' with Anaal Nathrahk. They are absolutely nothing like Mayhem, Ragnarok or even Wolves. Their black metal influences are significantly less these days. Well worth it. Anaal Nathrahk-More Fire than Blood Edited by user 04 December 2011 17:11:14(UTC)

                A few more I would like to recommend.
 Metal - Kvelertak - Some mental Norwegians, it is superb though.

 Indie - Try Noah and the Whale and Bon Iver.

                Thumbs up on the Noah & the Whale, but Bon Iver has never stuck with me. I feel like I'm hitting the fringe of being a hardcore hipster when I start listening to Neutral Milk (who I absolutely love) but Bon Iver feels too Hipster Runoff for me (strangely I love Das Racist who are Hipster Runoff's biggest loves).
 Recently though, I've gotten into bands like Yeasayer and Tegan + Sara again. So I haven't listened to many of the metal selections, all of the indie ones however, I've given a listen. ++ for the Pegasus McKenzie.
