Right...so I recently read the news that Adele's album "21" has overtaken "Thriller" in terms of all time sales. While I am no Jackson fan, I am afraid that is beyond ridiculous. As I have voiced on here before, I have no time for Adele. I think she is a depressing cant, with an overblown sense of worth, and a media campaign which has elevated her to a scary status. Also, I think she would never have sold even half of those records if she wasn't fat. Anyway, I have now decided that I will highlight female pop vocalists who have a better voice and more talent than Adele, yet get merely a fraction of the attention. |

I'm still a member of the Church of Commercialism =/= Quality. You've got to figure in the things that got Adele's 21 to the highest sales list, including the much better promotional campaigns, ease of hype transmission and other things that have changed from the 80s till now. For best female vocalists, Daughter and the lead singer of Rilo Kelly (Jenny Lewis) even though she's unbearably pretentious at first look.

Probably an obvious choice this one, and she arguably gets a lot of attention as well, but I love this girl's range, particularly in this song. I love the higher pitched part of this in the chorus.

I have no idea. I don't listen to much in the way of pop music, & my taste of vocalists is errr...eclectic.
Janelle Monae was good but technically? I dunno. I was going to post Bjork but I gotta be honest I have no idea how "good" she is as a singer. I like Patti Smith & she'd not exactly be regarded as great technically. |

i could not disagree with lana del ray more.... overblown and over rated singer.... now for a fantastic singer you can't go much better than Sia....
