Born in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, to parents Anya and Tom Love, Pixie was an only child. Her mother was a school teacher and her father was a construction worker. Her parents often commented on how she had such an eccentric and creative imagination. She would make picture books about what she wanted her life to be like. She was fascinated with fairy tales and magical creatures. When she was 14, her parents separated causing her to move to the states with her mother in early 2004. She quickly adjusted to the American life by learning how to be bilingual, speaking both Swedish and English. She also took up ballroom dancing at the age of 15 which she grew to love. This is also when she first got a taste of competition life by competing and winning her school's Ballroom Dance competition. After that, her teacher noticed that Pixie had a beautiful singing voice. When she realized it herself, she then became interested in singing and went on to pursue a musical career. |Career| By the age of 18, Pixie moved back to Finland and went on to compete in several different singing contests until she won her first one in 2008. The prize was to be given a recording contract which she gladly accepted and started to work on her first single, 'Misery' which peaked #3 in Finland and #15 in the world. Her next single, 'Children of the Moon' also peaked #3 in Finland but #7 in the world. Her debut album, 'LoveIsReal' debuted at #4 in Finland and #9 in the world but soon climbed it's way to the #1 spot in her hometown of Finland. Feeling great after her success, she looked to go on a mini tour to promote the album. When she returned, she was suddenly dropped from her label without any known reason. Angry by the decision, Pixie set out to move back to America where she wanted to expand her career. She has now grown weary of labels, afraid she might experience the same result in a new label but wants to be signed again. She is currently living in New Jersey where her mother also resides. Her father is living in Los Angeles, California. She released her debut American single 'Walk Alone on October 19th. It debuted #1 on the Digital Charts and #4 on the Airplay charts, giving Pixie her first ever #1 hit! Her second single 'Bold' debuted at #1 on the charts, giving her another number one hit single. Pixie was signed to Titanic Records in October after being rejected by Liberation/Nomad Records. She was the second artist to be signed after the label owners and founders, Teen Titans. She's currently recording her second album entitled Imagine. |Musical Influences| Pixie names numerous female artists as her inspirations for her songwriting and style. One of her biggest being Gwen Stefani. She stated that she loves how different and stylish she is without ever having to compromise her identity or integrity to have fans. She also takes after her in that they both have an obsession with Japanese culture and sound. She has often visited Japan, where she says she gets her influence for her fashion sometimes. Some other musical influences include Janis Joplin, Lauryn Hill, Phil Collins, and P!nk. These are only a few of the artists she listened to as a child, growing up, and cites them to be have made a major impact on her life and career. Pixie wants to be known as a multi-genre artist, not wanting to settle on just one specific sound but having a signature style. She doesn't want to limit herself and loves to explore the many possibilities of making music. |Style and Public Image| Pixie's style and fashion varies from time to time. While she enjoys dressing up in lavish, unique costumes, she also enjoys wearing the regular wear of jeans and a tank top. One of her selling points has always been her different looks and styles. She loves Harajuku style street fashion. She mostly tends to go for the 'Gothic Lolita' look and the 'Kawaii' or 'Decora' fashion. Her love of color sometimes influences her hair style. She loves to color it in usually pink, purple, green, or blue. She has multiple piercings including a tongue ring, one below her lip, one and on her eyebrow. Her love for expression doesn't stop there either as she has tattoos, 5 to be exact. On her ankle, she has a butterfly and she as a letter 'E' that is a significant letter because it's the ending of her name, middle name, and last name. She also has two Latin phrases on her arms. On the right it reads, 'Amicus Humani Generis', which she translates to, 'I'm a friend of the Human Race' and the other on her left reads, 'Agnus Dei' 'Servant or Lamb of God.' Her last tattoo is on her neck in Chinese which says 'Music'. She's looking to get 2 more; fairy wings and a lotus flower on her back. She occasionally wears three dots along her eye which stand for Integrity, Love, and Unity. After her debut album was released, the public tried to label her as a 'Goth' which she quickly denied stating she was more of a 'Bubblegum Goth'. She gives credit to the Spice Girls saying they influenced her 'Bubblegum Goth' style and said she was more of a 'Gothic spice girl.' She believes strongly in 'Freedom of Speech' and thinks people should not be told what to say. She thinks everyone should express themselves in their own way. She states she has no set religion but believes in God but will leave it at that. |Personal Life| She believes in "Reincarnation; the belief that the soul, upon death of the body, comes back to earth in another body or form." She states that she's always believed in this philosophy ever since she was a little girl. Pixie was also taught to believe in Angels and Fairies, through the teachings of her mother. She believes that everyone has a guardian angel watching over them and a fairy to help them in life. Her belief in Reincarnation gives her the adventurous lifestyle and mindset she has today, believing that she'll die and come back as something or someone far greater than who she is today. This also leads her to believe that life is all about caring for the soul and spirit and not so much as caring about worldly possessions as much. Even though the 21 year old love glamor and crazy fashion, she does not mind wearing simple clothing for herself and not living such a lavish lifestyle. Even though this is her first single to debut in the the U.S, Pixie is no stranger to being unknown or starting from the bottom to work her way to the top. After recording the song over the span of over a month, Pixie decided to release it as her first American debut single. Pixie is also going to perform the single and a few other tracks from her past album on a small promo tour so she can get her name out into the industry. When she returns, the singer will release a second single, hoping to get signed by a label in the near future. |Song Description| "Walk Alone" was written solely by Pixie Love and produced by Gia Rose-Hilton, Rico Love, and Pixie. "Walk Alone" features a very distinct rhythmic electronic beat primarily consisting of an electronic keyboard, synths and a short drum beat. Starting off with the strong and sexy vocals of Pixie while singing, "Cause I walk alone (lone, lone)", you can hear what appears to be whispers that are being repeated quickly and almost incoherently. The echo of the last word, "alone", is said in a crescendo as the pitch gets higher and higher, moving into an almost falsetto like voice. As it goes into the chorus, there's a build up of what sounds like suspense. The drum pattern can be heard faintly as it goes into the first verse of the song where it goes into the electronic keyboards and synths. She sings in a soft and delicate voice, each phrase in between said in a sexy whisper, until she sings the part of the song, "They will dwell on the past, You’ll never live/Always taking away, they never give", shifting into the turning point in the song where Pixie's hard hitting vocals reveal themselves, keeping a certain lightness to them as well. Nearing the end of the first verse, the drum beat comes back into play as she sings the breakdown between the verse and chorus. The pounding bass of the song really shines during the hook. A short instrumental plays as she gets ready to sing the second verse of the single. Pixie returns to her delicate voice, almost sounding a little innocent but with a smirk on her face. She doesn't hold back either, holding up to the consistency of the first half of the song. Advancing to the Bridge of the song, it slows down with distorted drum beats as Pixie sings with such a fierceness in her voice that it really takes the breath away of the listener. She holds the last note in "backstabbin" and then continues on singing the chorus as the song reaches it's final climax. After the sudden rush of drum beats and synths, the song ends with Pixie saying the last line with an echo to it which closes the song out. |Pixie's Comments| Quote: "The song represents independence. Walk Alone is nothing short of amazing. It's catchy beat and chorus catches the attention of any listener and if it doesn't, I'm going to believe that you're deaf. Her Finnish roots shine bright as she sings but in a good way, a very good way. The sexy accent she carries adds more to her character. The story of the song is relateable and it's got the makings of an anthem all at the same time. It makes you wonder; who screwed this girl over and why does she sound so angry yet sexy? Then again, who cares?! She made this single so maybe she needs to continue to get screwed and belt out hits like this. It's been a while since we've seen an artist try to transition away from typical music like Lady GaGa. I just hope and pray that she stays true to herself, doesn't try to be too different while being different and doesn't ultimately disappoint us. Hovering on a #1 hit single, it was time for her to show her longevity with a new single that was released in Finland on December 6th and has already been received with warm ears. The new single Bold is a very strong sounding with a catchy chorus and almost haunting lyrics. Pixie took to her Twitter account to share some of the lyrics from the song as well as teasing that this would be an amazing new treat for her fairies. This is the second single to be released from her upcoming album in 2013, Imagine. When she talked with Yahoo! online, Pixie said that her album would be very much diverse and filled with some unpredictable songs much like the Finnish singer's personality. This time she took to a very familiar name in the music industry today, Sunny Monroe, who has written hits for the likes of Isabel, Jennifer Armstrong, and more. After seeing the commercial success of the single in her home country of Finland, Pixie decided to release the song a week earlier in the U.S. and not leaving her fans "in desire of another tune" from the singer. So far the song has been hit by critics in majority of positive reviews, with the occasional bad review thrown in there. However, this didn't hurt Pixie at all as it has already soared to #1 on the charts in Finland. The big question now is will it do the same in the United States or was Pixie just a one hit wonder? |Song Description| "Bold" is an uptempo power pop, dance pop, and electropop song with influences of dance music incorporated throughout the song. The song begins with electronic arrangements that evolve into a pop rock sound. The song is everything that Pixie is about as an artist and as a person, describing some traumatic events with the lyrics and yet inviting the listener on a journey that is known as Pixie's imagination. She sings with a very energetic and vengeful voice that sounds much different than the innocent and sexy sound from her last single. She shows off her dark and creative side by painting a picture of a murder, one that is yet to be determined if it's even true or not, but you can't help but to wander if any of these events really did take place. Even though the verses sound wordy, she manages to sing and pull them together with the chorus in which she sings the hook, "Feel like being bold" The bridge is one of the highlights of the song where Pixie gives her all in what seems like an ongoing description of her during the song in which she ultimately decides to make a run for it and she feels like she has done the right thing. "Bold" gives us that rebellious side of Pixie that she has yet to show. Not only can she be a cute and innocent looking woman but now she sounds as if she is not the lady to mess with. Even though the message of the song is almost sinister, Pixie still remains true to her cuteness with the adding of the almost taunting sounds of her chants, "Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na" The single is set to be released on December 10th, 2012 in the U.S. and December 13th Worldwide. |Pixie's Comments| Quote: "Bold is one of my favorite songs I've ever written. She had on white shorts as her bottoms and a pink and white colored tutu that was puffy from the back to the front. On her knees were what appeared to be leg warmers in two different colors, blue on the bottom and a hint of pink on top of the blue. She also had on some white gloves with a blue design on top of it. The crowd is cheering for her as she has her eyes closed and she is holding onto the microphone stand with one hand, the other on her chest. She opens her eyes and looks out into the crowd as she begins to sing. [Verse 1] Somebody told me that you needed help Somebody told me that you've never felt Any kind of happiness that came your way You've been trapped in the dark, longing for day Nobody will ever understand you like I do Cus we are the children of the moon You'll never love me like I do Cus we are the children of the moon Just after Pixie finishes singing, an electronic, trance like beat starts to play over the speakers and some dancers appear on the stage, dancing to the beat, one by one. Pixie continues to stand in the center of the stage. As the dancers are showing off their amazing skills, Pixie continues to sing the chorus of her song, 'Children of the Moon' which was released before Pixie made it big in the U.S. She can hear most of the crowd singing along to the lyrics though which makes her feel like she's really extended her music from her small town to the world. She really tries to belt out the chorus, as the pulsing beat continues to play. The dancers soon start coming in from each side of the stage and begin to take up the stage as they dance together, as one, while Pixie is still in the middle, experiencing the performance in a different perspective. She feels the song inside of her and she remembered where she was when the wrote the song and how she felt. She tried to use these emotions in giving a performance that was beautiful and inspiring at the same time. Pixie didn't have the strongest or even loudest voice but it was unique in that it sounded different from everyone else's so it was sure to get her noticed. She had a bit of an accent but had adapted really well to the American language which you could hear in her voice. [Chorus] We are the children! We are the children! The lights then change again to being brighter and Pixie is seen smiling at the crowd. "New York! Are you feeling Bold tonight?!' The crowd instantly roars back at her, all with different responses but it's too loud for her to make them all out so she takes it as a huge 'Yes' from them and 'Bold' begins to play. She takes the microphone from the stand and someone comes and takes it with them to the back as she walks to the front of the stage where her adoring fans are holding out their hands for her to touch. She starts singing the first Verse of her single as the synthesizers and keyboards are playing in the background. At times there would be red and blue lights flashing all over the arena. This excited the crowd very much as they fed into her performance. Pixie was dramatic sometimes when it came to performing. She loved the added effects and dancers, she thought it tied her performance together nicely and also gave the crowd a good show. The loved dressing up in costumes and interacting with the crowd because it gave her a chance to feel them out. It allowed her to also use her imagination and she had a very big one when given the chance to use it. She always saw her performances beforehand in her mind and tried as best as she could to make it become a reality. Her back is turned to the crowd with a bright yellow light shining on her. The crowd, still pumped up from her performance watch as she marches along to the beat of some drums. She walks to the center again where this time there are some men who are shirtless and wearing some black pants and a giant white flower on their chest, high black platform shoes and white masks. As they continue to march in place, Pixie looks at the crowd and says a single phrase which makes the crowd go nuts, 'I Walk Alone'. After she says that, a smile creeps onto her face and she knows she has them where she wants them; wanting more. She skips to the left side of the stage and begins to sing, holding her hand up to the crowd as telling them to sing along with her. This song was by far the crowd starter; it really made the place explode in happiness and energy which is exactly what she wanted. The single was meant to make you feel an euphoric emotion that you can't contain yourself and you just have to dance. It wasn't a sad song as much as it was a declaration song that is supposed to make you feel free, much like all of her music. As she carried on, the crowd got louder to the point where you could barely make out what they were saying anymore. Pixie's voice was booming over the system as she sung into the microphone. She sings the bridge as the music starts to slow down and you can hear the audience singing along, clear as day. She pauses just before finishing to cheer them on. 'Let's walk alone tonight fairies! Let me hear you!!'. She then skips around the stage again as the music picks back up. One of her male dancers is playing with a ball and manages to throw it out into the crowd which keeps them busy for the performance. She then walks over to the guys again, marching like before, as they repeat the Bridge and then finishing out the song with the chorus. There are sparklers going off in the background, creating a rather sensational effect. Even her keyboard player is marching in place while she plays. They then all dance a perfectly well choreographed number where Pixie is the center of attention. She then turns her attention back to the crowd to finish out the song. The yellow light spread on her pink and white tutu as she took in the energy she was feeling from the night. This was a typical Pixie performance and since it was a world tour, she had to prove to other nations that she was legit and not a copy cat or a fake. Pixie really believed in herself and everything she stood for and she wanted to share her life and knowledge with the world. There was a sense of pride in her voice this time as she sung. As she continues to sing, she sits in it and it starts to rise back up towards the ceiling but not too far. She then puts on a mask similar to the ones that her dancers are wearing. The dancers continue to dance and it's a very climatic way to end her performance. As soon as she gets to the near end of the song, silver confetti comes pouring from it seems every direction, getting into the crowd and onto the stage as well. An array of lights start to flash all throughout the performance which gives Pixie a very flashy and party like atmosphere, something that meshes well with this fan favorite song. She swings back and forth gently as she looks out at her fans, all cheering and proud of her. She had felt like she had really crossed over well and this would help her skyrocket but she would always keep her dignity and intelligence; two of the three things she had always believed in was essential to live. She holds her head up the feel the confetti falling on her face and as she wipes it off, she continues to sing. First off, a big thank you for the Goldie nominations, literally cannot believe it!! :) I've been in the studio a lot and making sure everything's in order for my album. I'm proud to say that there's a few more quirks to work out and then it'll be here. I'm so excited, I feel this album is a HUGE step of growth from my previous one. I have all of the songs, it's just a matter what makes the cut and what doesn't. I want this album to be the American introduction to Pixie because I've already made my impression in Finland. This album to me is all about crossing over and showing just what my mind is capable of. I'm really excited, very! Now, the great news is I have a new single which is due in July. It's called 'REIGN' and is an absolute treasure of mine. I really wanted to create something different than I had before. It's the more rock and edgier side of my imagination. I'll say it's also the more cocky side of me than I usually allow but it's all in good fun. REIGN marks the 4th single from the Finnish singer and was recorded earlier this year. After three singles, released in the U.S., she has quickly allowed herself to become known with her elusive style and sensational tunes and has gained a larger fan base of fairies. She took to twitter and her personal blog to announce a new single from the album, giving it a different sound than the rest. Pixie teamed up with Steven Lillywhite who has also written singles for the likes of Peter Gabriel, U2, and The Killers. The two would create this track and he would also help compose it. The single was finished in a month, gathering aid from different musicians in order to create the varied sound of the track. After finishing up her tour with Teen Titans and preparing for another tour with idol Vanity, Pixie decided to finish up her album in hopes of using the tour to also promote it. Creating quite a buzz with her music and fashion choices, Pixie has hopes of becoming one of the breakout stars of the year. Her music as well is on the verge of being very creative and different than the regular artists in the industry today. She cites this as one of her main influences for her album. REIGN infuses several different instruments including Taiko drums, piano, violins, guitars, and drums. The lyrics suggest Pixie's time has come to reign or to accept her position on a throne as a blood right of hers. The unusually cocky lyrics also give way that Pixie's confidence shines through the single. "It's really a very confident record. There's no shame in it at all. It's one of the songs on the album I like to call 'home' because it really reminds me of home. I incorporated my Finnish language into it. I know a lot of people have wanted to hear me speak it so now they get a chance to. There's really no limitations to this single. The single cover art, it has purple because that is a color significant of royalty. I always encourage listeners to paint whatever picture they want and my videos do the same for me. It's very loose, in a sense that you hear the sound of pain being washed away and light shining on your face. It's beautiful to me. It's about opening your eyes and realizing what is yours all along." She goes on to illuminate the various instruments included in the record. "I wanted something that sound victorious and grand. Something fit for royalty. The whole song is just really dramatic in that you can almost picture a queen on her throne, speaking to her subjects." Song Description A complete turn around from her last single which was House influenced, we're not introduced to Pixie's Rock side. REIGN is 5 minutes and 35 seconds in length and mixes electronic and alternative rock together for a unique sound. Starting off with the lone sound of a piano key, it goes into a simple piano chord pattern which starts in a high note then goes low, repeating this process until the soft voice of Pixie is heard speaking in Finnish and then an echo not too far behind to speak in english, translating. As she continues to speak, we are introduced to the Taiko drums, pounding in the background after each piano chord, rah pa pum, rah pa pum but quickly together as if in a 1,2 1,2 count. It grows into a great climax and then ending after she speaks the last 'alive'. Swirling into the mixture now is a synthesizer followed by an electric guitar, playing a catchy riff and then gets infused with the drums, a throbbing synth completing the sound. The sound of chanting can be heard with the 'Oh oh oh oh oh, Whoah' with her own voice. She goes into the first verse, her voice confident and clear with a raspiness to it to collide with her normal soft spoken voice. Her accent is still heard through her singing but does not hinder her at all, adding to it one might argue. The same piano chords from the beginning come back into play once she sings the line 'I've put up with much too much of your shit/It won't die, die', going back to the insane guitar riff and drums again, along with the synth for the electronic feel. The chanting comes back only to be stopped while going to the next verse, her strong Finnish accent being heard again. This time there is a fierceness in her voice, determined more than ever to receive the 'crown' she is after, singing 'Had the crown in my eye, stitched to my chest/It is the only thing that beats when I'm at rest/You won't know how I feel' Pixie feels more than ever she deserves it and won't let someone step on her toes to get it. She feels it is almost too late so it's either now or never for her to act on her position. Again, the piano chords come back into play as she goes into the chorus. The infectious beat stands out not only because of Pixie's incredible vocals but because of it's strong nature. It screams power and loudness as well as rock and anguish. The bridge causes everything to slow down once again, only the piano and Taiko drums and vigorous violins now being heard with her soft vocals, both in English and Finnish languages. 'We are fools of a lie/Carry until we die' refers to her notion that every day people are being lied to and it hinders them from going after what they really want in life, carrying it and believing it until they die but she wants to break free from this curse. After the bridge there is a few seconds of silence, the stillness causing such a panic yet euphoric moment of unexpectedness until it is broken with Pixie's raspy, loud voice. She sounds as if she is a warrior about to go to war while bellowing, 'But through it all/Through it all/But through it all/Through it all/My feelings never changed!', a thunderous growl being heard afterwards. As she finishes up with the chorus, she continues to scream with such determination it forces you to just head bang along with the song. It comes together in the end as she sings with a feeling of accomplishment proud and loud in her voice. You can imagine her putting her fist in the air as she sings and marching around, leading an army of people. Once the beat calms down again, Pixie's voice goes back to the soft spoken one we're used to, her vocals still raspy but audible with the chanting in the background. The synth appears again, sounding as if it were quickly wrapping everything up and the song fades out. Music Video The video will premiere on the 23rd of July on Pixie's official VEVO account. It will be directed by Emma Ludbrook and Jett Stieger as well as Pixie herself. It is rumored to have a royal/futuristic theme to it in which Pixie shows through the single cover art. Not much else is known about the video except that it will be a mini movie, lasting about 8 minutes long and will be shot in Los Angeles, California.
