Background of the Lyrics
The song is kind of split into 2 parts , the first verse , written by me , is about a conversation between a girl and her mirror . She seems quite delusional because her boyfriend has left for good , but she is still holding on , refusing to let go . It occurs a lot of times because a girl is afraid of getting hurt and so she throws her self in this la la land where every one of her relationships last forever . The second verse , written by Rum , is about a girl ranting herself in her bathroom mirror . She smiles all day , but behind closed doors is a depressed drunk . ( At the same time it could be about a stripper ... model ... even singer ) She has strong feelings about the worth of her life , because she feels that she isn't being "real" . She is an emotional train wreck inside but she is forced to act strong . Everybody sees her as this and as that , but they don't pay attention to the real her . So now here they are , in front of this mirror , talking to it and asking it questions . Then breaking down with the words : I just want to love me , I want to make myself love me .
The Description of the Song
You can hear Coke vocalizing just as the beat falls in . She sings the first three lines in a soft tone and the fourth one with a little bit of an attitude , getting defensive . Really because she knows he wont , but she doesn't want to believe it . Then you hear Coke's voice fade in a little louder , its the mirror talking to her . Her voice goes back to a soft tone , like she is full of doubt's while having an epiphany . When she gets to the bridge , the beat remains on the same , just the last bang missing , making a drastic change in the feeling . That last missing bang , making you feel like the truth has just hit you . Like you've just opened your eyes and now can finally see the truth . She's asking the mirror questions , questions she already knows the answer to . Her voice is a neutral tone during the whole bridge but gets lower as she sings " Your looking at her now , are you satisfied now ? " because it is the Mirror talking , but really its herself . Once she starts singing the hook , you can hear 2 different versions of her voices , which is the 2 girls in front of the mirror . One version of Coke's voice is high , the other is low and they are in perfect harmony . During the chorus , her voice is a little weaker , and you can hear the pain and struggle in it as she tries to tell the mirror what to say and why . In the second verse her voice is very high , but again on a soft tone , giving off a bitter feeling on this version . You can hear her take breaths in between every line , making it sound like she was crying and sniffling in between everything she is saying . Then on the last 2 lines her voice drops from being high to being very low . Just then the bridge and hook and starts again just like it did the first time , just different words . The chorus is the same as well but you can hear Coke vocalize over it and drag some words in a different tone . As soon as the Chorus is over the music ends but Coke's voice fades in and out in a neutral tone singing the outro and ending the song .
