Ok I know its big, but it has to be for reading I think. OOC: So here it is. Three solid days work. this took me friggin hours of InDesign CS5 use, and whilst Im not happy 100% with the cover, it's out there now, issue one. All articles scrawled by me except the Reckoner one (Troy), the Jakey one (shamelessly hoovered from Elliott) and the Infinite one (written by Infinite) Thanks to everyone who helped with suggestions and stuff. Would I be being cheeky in asking for this to maybe be stickied so that I can keep all future issues near the top? IC: Feedback greatly appreciated cos as I say it took me ages. Cheers guys. OOC: Oh my god.... you did a fucking amazing job, mate. I hope this is something you'll continue doing, because it's probably the best RP I've seen in a long, long time. This looks like a real magazine, and I already can't wait for the second issue. Once again; amazing job! |
Kid Anything- Indie/Britpop/Shoegaze; influenced by Sigur Ros, XXYYXX, Kanye West, Blur, Oasis (Bringing together an eclectic group of influences, Ulysses' songs are sung with carefree abandon by Nick Junk) Kurt Ulysses - Songwriter, Guitarist, Backup Vocalist Nick Junk - Vocals, Mojo Infinite- Alternative/Experimental Rock; influenced by Muse, Radiohead, and The Beatles (Known best for their experimental music and their frontman's eccentric behavior, the band disbanded after Eric Quillington's death to pursue solo careers or, in Matt Robert's case, peace of mind. Infinite released four albums over the course of their career; Blue Nebula, Midnight Skies, Insomnia, and Dancing about Architecture.) Eric Quillington (Deceased) - Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Piano, Primary Lyricist Matt Roberts - Bass Greg Oldson - Drums, Backup Vocals, Secondary Lyricist Amelia Florentine - Keyboards, Piano, Lyricist, Backup Vocals "When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope." - Stephen King |

OOC: This is incredibly cool. A bit too generous on the album reviews, but I can't believe you would go through all the effort just to make this!
This is nothing short of awesome. |

OOC: This is the first fully-designed magazine I have seen on here, I'm pretty sure, during the time I've been here. The e-mail section and articles were great reads. I'm a hypercritical when it comes to reviews, so that part was a bit iffy for me, they could have been a bit longer for my taste and a little generous here and there, but I understand it took a bitch long of a time to do this. It's fantastic to have something like this on forum, hopefully it sparks some life to the roleplaying aspect. Granted, I haven't posted a roleplay in at least two months, myself so. Hopefully this magazine stays around and it isn't just a two or three time stunt like previous magazines. I think having good magazine is something great for the roleplayers. |

OOC: This was brilliant, if you don't make another one (and I think we can speak for all of us) we will hunt you down and force you to make another one. |

OOC: Thanks so much to everyone for the feedback on this. So great to see that people liked it.
This is the first time I have ever attempted a mag in Indesign, I actually have a degree in journalism and use this program all the time in my amateur life as an editor in a student publication, but I have only previously made newspapers with it, and mags are a whole lot more complicated design wise, hopefully Ill iron out all the little bits next time.
I plan to do one of these at the end of each month, so if people could get their news, review ideas or Feedback any time in the month leading up to it, that'd be outstanding!
On the subject of the reviews being too kind, I agree. I left that page kinda late, and didnt want to rip into people's work if it was gonna piss them off, but next month I'll just go for it. I'll also extend the album reviews and maybe just do two per page, cos putting one live review per page really worked length wise.
And god knows why the contents page and cover have size issues, I genuinely made them all tabloid sized on InDesign. The only other issue I need to iron out is the pics, some have come out a little stretched, but I didnt see that on the jpegs til they were posted here, it'll be cool next time.
Any ideas for new features or features to bin are also happily accepted.
Thanks again guys :D |

OOC: Oh yeah, and just to say, thanks for using Mind in the magazine. RP is truly taking a turn for the better and I hope it keeps going in this direction. Yet again, beautiful.
Jason: 5 stars?! Wow! That's amazing! Thanks to all the guys at @Chaos for a brilliant read. And to Cally, thank you for being so kind to us, we're sending you a little something. (Ahem, the new album). Just don't leak it, mkay? |
