“After the whole thing with the band didn’t work out, this is the first song that I had completed and so it feels sort of fitting that I release it as my first ever solo song. In hindsight the song is kind of like me letting go of the fact that the band never worked out the way that all of us had hoped, I mean there’s a line in the song that goes, ‘Let’s hit self-destruct/And stand back to watch the flame/As a metaphor for two years of empty fame’ and I guess when I think about that line right now, it’s basically about the band and the fact that we worked hard for two years in order to get to this position we were at where everything was looking like it could fall into place. But it all sort of imploded and for a little while there, it kinda felt like maybe I had wasted those two years, of course now I view it differently and I find the positives in the situation. So I suppose the song as a whole is about not thinking or worrying too much about getting somewhere but instead enjoying the journey along the way, at least that’s the way I like to think of it.”
