As narcissistic as that sounds, I don't write a single song thinking that it will be a number-one hit, or it will be raved by critics, or a fan favorite. All the songs I pin down are songs that first and foremost because I enjoy and I believe in them. Songs that I have a strong connection to. If any of the three things I said before do occur, that's fine. You won't ever hear me complain about being successful, and no one should ever regret success. I wouldn't be an artist right now if I wasn't getting paid because after all, that's what a career is.
