My Own Personal Jesus is just a song about having someone guide you and help you when things get tough. It’s never easy to make tough decisions on your own and I guess everyone needs someone to help them make those decisions, we all need a little faith sometimes and some sort of hope of there being something worth working towards.
It’s not literal in the religious sense of the word, I mean I have my beliefs and people have their own beliefs, I don’t want people to think that this is a song about religion and god and all that other stuff, it’s just about finding someone who makes your life better in every way.
It’s a pop song with elements of R&B, I’d like to think that it’s a pretty good representation of the kind of music you can maybe expect from me in the future. I'm heavily inspired by modern R&B artists like Alicia Lena, Cherise, Tisha Jackson and Stephanie Fierce so there may be some similarities in the music but I'd like to follow my own direction and create my own musical legacy as well as embracing my influences.
I always find it tough to explain music because in reality the only way of doing that is by performing it. Music Video The music video was filmed between December 6th-10th, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. It aired in the USA via MTV on Saturday, January 1st 2011 and is set to air in the UK via 4Music on Friday, January 7th 2011. It was directed by Mick Halford an English director famed for his work with various British musicians including James Morrison and Girls Aloud. It features Hayley Hudson singing alone in her bedroom, she recieves a phone call before the shot cuts to Hayley spending time with friends at a small cafeteria, laughing and having fun as she sings and her friends sing along with her. As the song draws nearer to the end, her friends start to slowly disappear and fade away one by one, a metaphor for the typical problem of becoming famous and isolating your friends maybe?
The song ends with Hayley sitting alone on a park swing, she looks down to her mobile phone and it says "no messages" on the screen before looking out onto the sea looking visably upset. Personel
