So this is where it all began This is where the story ends We will never need to leave We keep running Back in Bristol, Machete picked up the phone. "What did you say he was going to do?" "He's going to make his way to Bristol. On his own." Alfie sounded scared. "He thinks he's invincible, just because the Pope and Raven said he's special or whatever happened. Even more so now that people are stepping out of morgues." "Much as I hate going to Australia, tell him we'll go there," Machete replied, trying to keep calm and lighten up the situation. "We just need to strengthen up Bikki for a couple more days, then we'll be on our way." "But first .... this is the worst part .... he wants to tell Roxy and Bri that he's going." She could hear him shivering. "In person." Machete dropped the phone in fear. "LOCK THE DOORS!" she screamed, out of character for her usual calm self. "HIDE THE KEYS! LOCK HIM IN HIS BEDROOM! Whatever it takes, do NOT let Joshy get to Melbourne!" "Will do," said Alfie, his voice shaking as he put the phone down without as much as a goodbye. Mache understood; she knew that he had to work quickly. She didn't understand Joshy's blunders one bit .... if he could stay there, she and Nick - they'd leave Kate behind, she was a great carer for Bikki, but her megaphone mouthpiece wasn't suitable for this situation - could bring Bikki over and Joshy would be safe at home with his brother. As for telling the girls - telling Roxy, over the phone, would be just fine, she'd be sensible and tell him to call Mache too, and agree with him meeting Bikki in a 'controlled environment' with three other people. Bri - different story. She wouldn't trust Joshy around Bikki. Not one bit. Not that she could blame her, but still, if he told her, Joshy had better hope to wake up from death himself, because a real machete would be, most likely, coming his way.
The walls keep coming down This is a warning So raise your voice and shout A few minutes later, outside his bungalow, Joshy banged on the back door of the house. "ALFIE! LET ME IN!" he shouted. "I've left my phone behind!" But the door was locked. No keys hidden under the mat, as Bri often did when she was out. He tried the same on the front door, but to no avail; it was triple-locked. He wheeled himself round to look at every window, there wasn't a single one open even a crack. He really is 'the dud', thought Joshy. His brother had been given that nickname because he had no musical talent, but occasionally, it turned up in real life. He must have gone somewhere, taken the keys with him and forgotten to tell me. Ah well, I can go without a phone. I'll just have to surprise Bri and Roxy! After a longer ride than he expected, he eventually reached the train station. It'd be an overnight train, but he didn't mind. He booked his train ticket. "To Melbourne .... and beyond!" he called out to the ticket collector, exhausted but still enthusiastic.
He wasn't entirely sure what Bri would make of this. Roxy, sure, she'd tell him not to, but he'd go anyway. Or she might go with him, as a last resort. But Bri - she, like every other person on the planet, knew about his past with Bikki. Was their relationship strong enough to handle a third party coming along, or would she split with him on sight? Maybe she might understand something or other. Only she would understand how heavily Bikki would need to be protected. Thinking too hard made him feel sleepy, and he was tired from the journey. Luckily (or not so), the train to Melbourne was at the platform ....
