BACKGROUND
TWENTY-THREE is the highly anticipated sophomore album from American pop-rock singer Jennifer Armstrong. The album was scheduled to be released on July 24th, 2012, by Studio60 Records but due to Armstrong's own personal issues, it was pushed back until January of 2013. It will serve as Armstrong's debut release with Studio60 Records, following the disbandment of Shooting Star Records in 2011, due to her checking into a rehabilitation center and going on a hiatus. Unlike Armstrong's debut album, Scarlet Fever, she has taken a different approach by dabbing into different genres and writing about more personal subjects. Majority of the album is produced by Kieran Thomas, Sunny Monroe, and Gia Rose-Hilton. TWENTY-THREE features guest vocalists, Jacob Estrada, Isabel, and Andrea Khan. Musically it derives from genres of pop, pop-rock, R&B, dance-pop, and power-pop. Two singles have been released from the album with "My Heart Is Not For Taking" as the lead single. Debuting at #4 on the Digital Charts and #8 on Airplay. The album's second single, "Another Pretty Lie," was released on April 2nd, 2012 and was Armstrong's first single to peak at #1 on Airplay. The third single, "A Smile To Remember," was released on September 19th, 2012, and peaked #8 on the Airplay and #4 on the Digital charts. Following the success of "A Smile To Remember," was "It's Okay To Not Be Okay," which proved to be Jennifer's highest debuting single with landing in the #2 spot on both Airplay and Digital charts.

Armstrong called on a familiar name in the industry today, Sunny Monroe, who has worked with multiple artists on their singles, to help produce this album. She started recording the album back in March of 2012 at Capitol Studios but then then delayed the album until she had gotten out of rehab and focused back in on music. That wouldn't come until September and Armstrong managed to finish the album completely by December. The album went through many changes including it's name. The original idea for the name was to be Two Hearts Beat In Time but she quickly changed that to TWENTY-THREE thinking it was a better tribute for her brother. She also extended her hand to different producers such as R&B specialist, Rico Love who's worked with Kato and Layla. She also called in Phil N. who has worked with the likes of Hayden, Lily, Hannah Beth, and her close friend Izzy. Pixie Love, also known as Pixie, offered to help Jennifer on her album by writing one of the songs on the album for her, "Last Time". The album was structured to show off Armstrong's vocal abilities and to showcase her emotional side with several songs paying tribute to her late brother, Max Armstrong, who died in October 2010 due to a car accident. Some of those songs include, "My Heart Is Not For Taking", "Two Hearts Beat In Time", and "TWENTY-THREE". The songs are supposed to represent Jennifer and everything she's about. The album is perfect for those who need a re-introduction to Jennifer Armstrong as she belts out catchy tunes and choruses. Although the album is a year late than expected, it is not a disappointment at all. Jennifer switches up her sound, shows off her amazing voice and range, gives nonstop emotion track after track, and shows you just who Jennifer Armstrong really is. The album includes subjects such as self-empowerment, love, heartbreak, death, loneliness and just having fun. TWENTY-THREE : The Deluxe Edition is also set to be released in January featuring four brand new, never heard before tracks!

Title: Break Me
Length: 4:35
Genre: Pop
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong, Sunny Monroe
Produced by: Gia Rose-Hilton, Sunny Monroe

Background Information
The first track on Jennifer's album sets the tone for the entire album as it's very in your face and is really the essence of the message she's trying to portray with the album. 'Break Me' takes us back to the old Jen that was usually sarcastic, witty, and very outspoken. This single has all of that and more. With a Pop friendly mixed with a little reggae inspired track, Jen's vocals are almost opposite to what we're used to hearing with her belting out songs and having that strong voice of hers. She uses this to her advantage as it has a catchy chorus and beat alongside with it. Although it is not clear what the next single should be released from her album, it's safe to say that this track could be the one that could be her much sought after #1 debuting single. Jen wrote this song with a name that will be seen throughout the album credits, Sunny Monroe and it was produced by her and Gia Rose-Hilton as well.

Description
An up-tempo pop track with a strong undercurrent of soul, is starting off the first track. With only a single note being played as Jen introduces her soft vocals onto the track, 'Break Me' would seem like another typical Jen song but as soon as the beat kicks in, it takes you on a ride that is almost unfamiliar from Armstrong. Her almost bouncy and spoken singing style in this song instantly catches your attention along with the insanely catchy beat. It features multi-tracked vocals on the chorus and synth sound affects that edginess to the song that makes it so interesting. The song also consists of layers of synths and backing vocals adding a musical and emotional intensity totally absent from the carefree verses. The hints of the reggae vibe make the song even more fun while the lyrics are hinting at her taking shots at the negative comments and even at the paprazzi during her career. Although she doesn't mention anyone per se, you can use your imagination with lines such as, "It's getting kinda funny/Listening to you speak/Running through the motions/Making me feel queasy/Don't you have something, else better to do/Worrying about my life". She heads into the bridge by almost summarizing her message in 4 lines. The beat switches up with just the drum track and her vocals in a very sassy way and then ends with Jen showing off her vocals while ad-libbing the chorus.

Quote:
"Break Me was one of the funnest songs I've ever recorded. I got to step out of my element and totally take on this whole new persona which was neat. Gia wanted me to do a song that was really about me as a person and how I felt at the time. It's like everyone is always getting hate from people and hounded by people so I wanted to use this as a way as a message for them. I'm telling everyone 'Look you can say or do whatever but I'm not backing down and I'm not going to go crazy over it anymore.' I used to literally spend hours just looking at the comments people made about me being fat or not being attractive and it hurt me. Now I don't and if I happen to see it, it doesn't hurt me anymore because I'm stronger and better than anything people can say about me. It's very fun and even though the message is like 'Hey, screw you' it's still got a nice vibe to it."

Lyrics

Y-Yeah, Yeah
Y-Yeah, Yeah
Oooh

[Verse 1]
Stopped for a minute
So I could think about the
Times you tried finish
All my conversations
Guessed I should've woke up, I should've woke up
Something like a fairytale
Now you think about me
It's quite a sight to see
Everyone imagined just how this girl would be
Had to kinda back up, Had to back up
I know your type very well

[Pre-Chorus]
(Ohh, Ohhh) Dust myself off, baby you won't hurt me
(Ohh, Ohhh) Because I'm never going down

[Chorus]
Here I am, strong I stand
You can try with all your might
I don't know what you've been told
But you can't break me
Talking now, can't hear a sound
Where you at? Not looking back
I thought you knew that I wasn't so easy
It's something like a break through but
You can't break me
You can't break me

[Verse 2]
It's getting kinda funny
Listening to you speak
Running through the motions
Making me feel queasy
Don't you have something, else better to do
Worrying about my life
Yeah, I could let you get me
It's something like a victory
To all the people doubting
They must have gone crazy
Cus I'm about to make up, about to make up
With all the fight you let me have

[Pre-Chorus]
(Ohh, Ohhh) Dust myself off, baby you won't hurt me
(Ohh, Ohhh) Because I'm never going down

[Chorus]
Here I am, strong I stand
You can try with all your might
I don't know what you've been told
But you can't break me
Talking now, can't hear a sound
Where you at? Not looking back
I thought you knew that I wasn't so easy
It's something like a break through but
You can't break me
You can't break me

[Bridge]
You can't break me but you'll give it a try
You won't hold me down cus the limit's the sky
It's so easy to just give up the fight
You can't break me so this is goodbye (x2)

[Chorus]
Here I am, strong I stand
You can try with all your might
I don't know what you've been told
But you can't break me
Talking now, can't hear a sound
Where you at? Not looking back
I thought you knew that I wasn't so easy
It's something like a break through but
You can't break me (You can't break me)
You can't break me (Ohhhhh)
You can't break me (Break me)
You can't break me (You can't break me, you can't)
You can't break me

Title: A Smile To Remember
Length: 4:50
Genre: Pop
Released: September 19th, 2012
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York, Las Vegas, Nevada
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong, Bianca Moretti, Sunny Monroe
Produced by: Kieran Thomas, Jennifer Armstrong

Background Information
Jennifer Armstrong has been on the sidelines for a while now and is ready to get back to her music. Her last single, Another Pretty Lie, had been released over 5 months ago and it was the last we had heard from the singer in a while. Now she's back with a brand new single and a seemingly brand new attitude. The once deemed 'depressed' singer seems to have taken a more uplifting and almost happy route with her music which is made clear in her new single, A Smile To Remember. Jennifer teamed up with singer-songwriter Bianca Moretti and songwriter, Sunny Monroe, to showcase her versatile music. Rumored to be written about her ex fiancee, Aaron Simpson, Jennifer took to the piano this time with an upbeat and fairly medium tempoed song and delivers with outstanding vocals and a catchy chorus. Armstrong reportedly wrote this song while still in a relationship with Aaron until the two split a few months back. Being that it's Armstrong's 4th official single, she decided to not delay it any longer. Recent setbacks and personal issues have haunted the singer's earlier release date but finally a new single has been released. Even though she's seen as one of the more experienced in the industry, can she finally make her place in the music business or will she disappear again, leaving her fans and peers frustrated and wanting more?

Description
Starting off with a soft piano melody, Jennifer is heard vocalizing in the background as the song begins. Her crisp and and low voice are now singing over the melody as she enters the first verse. She slowly begins singing in almost a whisper like voice. As seconds past, Jen's emotion increases in the song giving it a really laid back yet inspirational feeling to it. Jen's signature raspy voice plays a key role in the song's sassiness heard throughout the single. The drums also help with the Pop sounding of the song as they start to become noticeable during the second verse. The piano gives it a sweet sound even with the drums in the background which combines with Jen's vocals to create a signature sound. The chorus is sung with passion by Jen and takes the listener on a emotional ride from the very beginning. As her range is revealed, she doesn't shy from the high notes anymore than she does the low notes. It's a true example of how mature and talented her voice has become. Her almost breathless voice turns into an eruption of sound as she belts out the chorus and bridge. The backing vocals are also done by Jen but they blend in perfectly, giving the song an extra kick. The heavy percussion reminds you almost of a classic Lily song but with less of a dark feeling to it. As the piano slows down, her vocals increase going into the singing of the chorus for the 3rd time. It's like a finale in a show and Jen gives it her all to leave a lasting impression, holding the note in the word Smile. After the vocals are not heard, the piano plays until the song is over and Jen sings the last note, 'Remember'.

Quote:
"A smile to remember was such a feel-good song that it ultimately became my next single. I put my music on hold for a while but now I'm back and ready for any and everything. The very talented Bianca Moretti helped me write this song along with Sunny Monroe, who's an up and coming songwriter. I didn't want to sound like my past singles and I was going for something new. I think what makes this single so special is that it means something. It's what I essentially had left of my last relationship and I always thought he had a nice smile so when we were going through our break up, I started to write about him [Aaron] and then the rest just sort of came together. It took us months to finally complete the song and once we recorded it, I wanted it to have piano in it which now I think was the right way to go. I could have gone a different route with this song but I think it's perfect the way it is. The obvious choice would have been to be depressing and make it another break up song but turning it into one of those songs where you listen to it and go 'Aw, I remember this person' without getting sad, there's not a ton of those songs around. I have a long way to go with my writing and singing career but this is just a taste of more to come."

Lyrics
[Verse One]
It took awhile for my heart to heal
So long that I never thought I'd feel
What it is now I'm feeling for you-u-u

No one before could ever break through
To my heart and make me feel this way
For sometime I hoped I'd find love someday
Now that it's here, I'm holding on-n-n

[Chorus]
Cause baby you have a smile to remember
That I'll never forget it, it won't linger
When you rescued me and helped set me free
From the pain that was so obvious to see
Don't you know without you, our love would die
And I don't ever want us to say goodbye
So promise that we'll always be together
Cause baby you've got a smile (A smile) a smile, to remember
Baby you've got a smile, (A smile), a smile, to remember

[Verse Two]
I never had someone to believe in me
Until you came and were able to see
Just how much love I had to give-e-e

Felt so misused that I didn't want to live
With the loneliness that I felt inside
Every day and night I cried
But now everything just feels so right-t-t

[Bridge]
Now I know what it feels like to be loved
The feeling of empowerment, something from above
The skies are clear no storms in my path
Could this be the love that always lasts?

[Chorus]
Cause baby you have a smile to remember
That I'll never forget it, it won't linger
When you rescued me and helped set me free
From the pain that was so obvious to see
Don't you know without you, our love would die
And I don't ever want us to have to say goodbye
So promise that we'll always be together
Cause baby you've got a smile (A smile), to remember
Baby you've got a smi-i-i-i-i-i-ile (a smile)
A smile (a smile), to remember

Title: New To This
Length: 3:24
Genre: ElectroPop, R&B
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York, Rutherford, New Jersey
Written by: Sunny Monroe
Produced by: Kieran Thomas, Rico Love

Background Information
To incorporate some R&B on the album, Jennifer went for a more ElectroPop and R&B type of beat for this track. After dabbling in the genre a few times on her past album, Jennifer decided to really make more use of it for this current album. Having the vocals that are fit for R&B, Armstrong used this to her advantage with this song. Even though it is heavily mixed in with Pop, Electronica and some dubstep, you can hear all of the elements that went in to making the song what it is now. Jen's vocals are 'tough' and 'sassy yet sexy and sultry' which makes the single stand out from some of the other tracks. The single was actually not going to be included on the album but Jen decided that it should as it was definitely a track that tells about her in a lot of ways. Jen was given this song by Sunny Monroe as she wrote it and Jen recorded it in 4 days time. Kieran was called upon to produce this track along with Rico Love who has worked with Kato.

Description
"New To This" is a mid-tempo electropop and R&B song, with a trace of dubstep in the track. It is surrounded by a thumping beat and banks of synthesized chords. The track starts off with a heavy, synthesized beat following a drum pattern as Jen begins to sing. She sings as if she's being cocky but sexy at the same time. The beat switches up at the chorus where it becomes more of a dubstep/electropop song that you can dance to. The relaxed tempo song allows Jen to really belt out the song as she's used to. The beat calms back down when she sings the second verse. Who the song is directed at remains a mystery but some believe it may be directed at people who have took shots at her being abstinent or her still being a virgin which she has received a fair amount of criticism for it, some not believing her and some making fun of her for it. Jennifer sings about being used to it all and that she's not a rookie when it comes to the critique and rumors. Some have also interpreted it as her saying she's innocent in her sex life but she's not so innocent in other ways, which is true? You'll have to listen and figure that for yourself. Jen wraps up the song with her ad-libbing and belting out more notes as the song comes to a close.

Quote:
"I didn't write this single actually, Sunny wrote it for me. The thing I liked the most about the single was that it could have had so many different meanings to it and people will never really know the actual meaning except me and Sunny so..yeah. (Laughs) It was another song I really enjoyed recording because I can be a mystery sometimes. I think this song shows that I can have that attitude sometimes but it's what makes me, me you know? The song has a real diva like tone to it and I think I played it right down to the last line. Some guys think that I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to dating since I haven't had many boyfriends and stuff but I'm a fast learner and I can teach guys things that they didn't think I could teach. I just really love this song and I'm glad that it got to make it on the final version of the album."

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Don't waste no more time
You must be out of your mind
If you don't think I can shine
Without yo-o-ou
It's something we know
The love we had it grew old
It's like the poison was slow
To my mi-i-ind

So boy, just relax let me show you the ropes
I can say that I know how this goes
You're just for talking
And boy, don't you think that I've been around
Just because I know about your crown
I'm not so innocent

[Chorus]
My love is something I know that you'll miss
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)
I hope you don't think I am new to this
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)
My love is something I know that you'll miss
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)
I hope you don't think I am new to this
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)

[Verse 2]
I hope that you've learned
You play with fire, get burned
So many heads that I've turned
And you kno-o-ow
This is a call for your heart
You wouldn't know where to start
But I can break you apart
Yeah you kno-o-ow

So boy, just relax let me show you the ropes
I can say that I know how this goes
You're just for talking
And boy, don't you think that I've been around
Just because I know about your crown
I'm not so innocent

[Chorus]
My love is something I know that you'll miss
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)
I hope you don't think I am new to this
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)
My love is something I know that you'll miss (You'll miss this)
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)
I hope you don't think I am new to this
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)

[Bridge]
Ooooh oh oh oh ooohh oh,
Ooooh oh oh oh ooohh oh
I hope you don't think I'm new to this
Ooooh oh oh oh ooohh oh,
Ooooh oh oh oh ooohh oh
I think you know I ain't new to this

Yeah!
By now you know I ain't new to thi-i-i-i-is

[Chorus]
(My love) My love is something I know that you'll miss
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)
I hope you don't think I am new to this
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)
My love is something I know that you'll miss
(Ooooooooh oooh oooh oooooh)

Title: Last Time
Length: 4:15
Genre: Pop Rock
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York
Written by: Sunny Monroe, Jennifer Armstrong
Produced by: Phil N.

Background Information
'Last Time' is a Pop rock song that also has elements of Soft Rock and Ballad music. The song was written by the team of Sunny Monroe and Jennifer in a time of 2 weeks. Jennifer states that the song is about moving on from someone and not making the same mistake as before. Armstrong decided to team up with a new producer this time, Phil N., who also has produced albums for Hayden, Lily, Isabel, and Hannah Beth. He's most noticeably worked on tracks similar to these that are either close to pop rock, rock, metal, or even folk sounds. The song was recorded in Chicago, where Phil's studio is located, but written in Los Angeles. After looking through producers, Armstrong decided that Phil would capture the song the way she wanted it to be capture and the two decided to work together.

Description
The track starts off with a soft electric guitar, a simple drum beat then kicks in. Jennifer begins to sing the first verse, softly, gradually getting louder when she reaches the chorus. You can hear her vocals in the front and in the background but a range higher, creating a nice effect. The full band kicks in when she sings the chorus and then quiets back down when she gets to the second verse. There's also a sign of an acoustic guitar and keyboards being used as she continues to sing. Jen's voice sounds as if she is restless and really fighting to let go of whomever is blocking her from moving on. Soon, you can also hear traces of what sounds like a symphony while she's singing the Bridge of the song, the really climatic part where Jen's vocals shine through. This is so far the highest point in the track, giving the listeners an almost unexpected eruption of her once again powerful voice, also holding the end note of the line, 'Never again'. She goes back into the chorus and then continues to sing, not resting, tying up the song in almost one single breath it seems. She fully delivers an emotional performance all the way until the end of the song where she calms back down, repeating the last lines over until the music ends.

Quote:
"I literally tracked down Phil for this song because he's really good at emotional, rock type songs and I was right. He completely took over and I just interjected when I needed to. He's an amazing producer to me. Back when I wasn't in music at the time, I was writing, a lot and this was one of the songs I wrote. I just was feeling a lot of emotions and I just wanted to try to write it out and understand. The song isn't written about a guy actually, it's written about my time at rehab. I know people will hear the second verse and be like 'Rehab has lips?' well no, it's like when I was in rehab, it sort of had me in a trance like a good kiss does. It just blind sides you and it's literally the only thing on your mind for a while until you break from from it. I told myself that I was never going back to rehab ever again and I'm not looking at that door that is the harm I caused myself because I know that rehab is all that will happen or even worse. It's almost like a motivation song to not make the same mistakes twice because you should learn from them. They shouldn't be vain."

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Don't curse myself about mistakes
No longer now does my heart ache
I'm fine, just fine
You promised me you weren't pretend
Now we can't even be best friends
I'm fine, just fine

[Chorus]
I know that I've said this before
But I mean it now
I'm not looking back at your door
Cus you're all I'll find
It's better, much better
There's no more forever
That was my last time

[Verse 2]
I'm having thoughts about your lips
They always had me in a grip
But I'm fine, just fine
We'd laugh all day, without a care
And I'd change my clothes and change my hair
Now I'm fine, just fine

[Chorus]
I know that I've said this before
But I mean it now
I'm not looking back at your door
Cus you're all I'll find
It's better, much better
There's no more forever
That was my last time

Ohh, Oh

[Bridge]
Now I can't stand the sight of you
You make sick, with all you do
You make me, You make me sick (With all you do)
I promise never again, No never
Never again

[Chorus]
I know that I've said this before
But I mean it now
I'm not looking back at your door
Cus you're all I'll find
It's better, much better
There's no more forever
That was my, my last time
I'll never, never forget you
You weren't a complete waste of time
But if you call me, A dial tone's all that you'll find

My darling, you loved me
Just not enough for me to stay
But this is my last time

This is my, this is my
Last time, This is my, This is my
This is my, last time

Last time

Title: My Heart Is Not For Taking
Length: 4:42
Genre: Pop
Released: February 25th, 2012
Recorded: Los Angeles, California
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong
Produced by: Kieran Thomas

Background Information
After the tragic death of her brother, Max Armstrong, Jennifer took to writing as a refuge from the reality that her brother was gone. This in turn was the result; a heavily emotional ballad from Armstrong called 'My Heart Is Not For Taking' which features her in her prime just 10 months ago. After going into rehab and leaving the music scene, Jennifer managed to produce this track which was ultimately a hit on the charts and in her life. The then 21 year old was also engaged to then fiancee, Aaron Simpson and it seemed like her life was finally turning back into the right track. The single was written solely by Jennifer and produced by Kieran Thomas, who also played the hook on the song. The song debuted #4 on the Airplay charts and #8 on the Digital charts.

Description
An emotional beat with piano, strings and 808 style drums kicks off the next and first single on TWENTY-THREE. Like many songs on the album this one is a powerful and self written ballad and is personal to her as Jen explains her feelings of losing her brother, Max. Though he died years ago, the emotions are still there. Jen once again sings with real emotion in this song as she makes the listener feel her sorrow and hurt, ending the chorus with a very heart felt plea to her deceased brother, "Oh brother I need you to come back/So maybe my heart can relax." The hook has an electric guitar riff in which Jen prepares to give her all just before delivering a very dominant performance. Once the beat breaks down after the bridge section, it builds to the final chorus parts as Jen almost struggles to get the last two lines of the song out which gives you a sense of the amount of pain that was exposed during the song.

Quote:
"With my first album I just had fun and I didn't really talk about this situation which to me was a bad decision. I never realized how empty I've been feeling until I got older. All of the emotions I had been keeping inside just finally caught up to me. Singing about it is the only way I feel that helps me in a way. I will always miss my brother dearly and I hope that people finally understand what I go through on a daily basis. The song itself represents that feeling of just having enough and wanting to vent. You can't replace someone you truly loved with someone else, you'll always remember that person and therefore I'm saying my heart is not for taking or for anyone to try and fill that void because it will always be there no matter what. A part of me will forever be missing."

Lyrics

[Verse One]
Life was never suppose to be this way
You were never suppose to leave me behind
Picking up the pieces, hoping some day
I'd find that this is all a dream in my mind
I'm so hurt and mad at you for leaving me
Its not easy when you're all that I miss
You always told me to be the best I can be
But its so hard when I always hurt like this

[Chorus]
Don't you know my heart is not for taking
Yeah my heart is not for breaking
I don't know how to keep on surviving
Yeah my life can't be reviving
My soul is so lost without you here
Nothing in my life is no longer clear
Oh brother I need you to come back
So maybe my heart can relax

[Verse Two]
Late at night when I try to fall asleep
I'm kept awake by the good memories
Stuck in my mind all night as I weep
No one to share the pain of the memories
I'm so hurt and mad at you for leaving me
Its not easy when you're all that I miss
You always told me to be the best I can be
But its so hard when I always hurt like this

[Chorus]
Don't you know my heart is not for taking
Yeah my heart is not for breaking
I don't know how to keep on surviving
Yeah my life can't be reviving
My soul is so lost without you here
Nothing in my life is no longer clear
Oh brother I need you to come back
So maybe my heart can relax

[Bridge]
Not sure how much I can take
Cos my heart keeps increasing
At any moment it will break
Into a million pieces
No one to put it back together
No one except you
Has the slightest clue
How my heart works altogether
(ohhhhhhhhhh)

[Chorus]
Don't you know my heart is not for taking
Yeah my heart is not for breaking
I don't know how to keep on surviving
Yeah my life can't be reviving
My soul is so lost without you here
Nothing in my life is no longer clear
Oh brother I need you to come back
So maybe my heart can relax

Oh brother I need you to come back
So maybe my heart can relax

Title: Another Pretty Lie
Length: 4:55
Genre: Pop Rock
Recorded: Los Angeles, California
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong
Produced by: Kieran Thomas

Background Information
The second single from Jennifer Armstrong's album, 'Another Pretty Lie' which was proved to be a hit with her fans, is the next track on her album. Turning the direction from her heartbreaking song, 'My Heart Is Not For Taking,' Jennifer really goes all out for this rock single. She uses a very diva like presence and amazing vocals that are almost sort of raspy yet sexy. Turning to Kieran Thomas once again, the two come up with what is sure to be the most full blown rock song on the entire album, giving Armstrong a thumbs up in that department from many peers and critics. The almost 5 minute song is reminiscing over a guy who tried to cheat on Jennifer but she stopped the relationship before it even happened. It is another track that is written solely by Jennifer.

Description
This track is described as a Pop-rock beat with electric guitars, and live drums. Jennifer's very famous for her Pop Rock voice and sound which is the way this single is known as. You can feel the energy from the song as Jennifer begins to sing and as the band is playing in the background. As soon as she gets to the end of the verse, the guitar plays a solo then she jumps right in to the chorus, the most rock like part of the song. She's almost singing in a complete raspy like voice but there's also the passion and fire you can feel from her as well. Jen goes on to the next verse with the same amount of energy, completely dominating the track even though she's the only one singing. Going back into the chorus, Jen prepares us for quite possibly the best part of the song which is the Bridge. The band is playing half force now, emphasizing Jen's vocals. The band jumps back in and she finishes off the song, vocalizing and hitting all the right notes until the song fades out.

Quote:
"Most of my album centers around my emotions and feelings towards my brother's death, but I definitely don't want people thinking that's all I'm going to talk about. I wouldn't do that to you guys because I certainly don't want to make everyone cry through the whole album. What fun would that be? So that's pretty much why I chose this song to be my second single since it's one of my favorites and it shows that I can do more than just sing emotional sad songs. I premiered this single at the Chaos Awards V and that was just amazing. The crowd seemed to enjoy it so hopefully this will become everyone's favorite like it has been for me. It's definitely something people can relate to."

Lyrics

[Verse One]
I bet you think
That you finally got your way
I'm here to tell you baby
That's just not the case today
See I heard about your past
It seems you're famous for breaking hearts
Unfortunately for you baby
I was always one step ahead of you
Right from the start

[Chorus]
You should get out
(of my face)
You're nothing to me
(Except a disgrace)
Pack your bags and say goodbye
Cos you're done telling another pretty lie

[Verse Two]
I have to admit
I'd hope you'd prove me wrong
But you couldn't do it baby
Cos you love stringing girls along
See I heard about your past
It seems you're known for breaking hearts
Unfortunately for you baby
I was always one step ahead of you
Right from the start

[Chorus]
You should get out
(of my face)
You're nothing to me
(Except a disgrace)
Pack your bags and say goodbye
Cos you're done telling another pretty lie

[Bridge]
Not going to stand here and let you make a fool of me
All I only want now is for you to set me free
I don't care that you're on your knees begging
Trying to keep me from walking out that door and leaving
You should of thought about that before you cheated
Now it's your turn to be mistreated
True love is already so hard to find
I hope its worth it cos you'll never find a love like mine-e-e

[Chorus]
You should get
(out of my face)
You're nothing to me
(Except a disgrace)
Pack your bags and say goodbye
Cos you're done telling another pretty lie

Amy: This album is shaping up to be something really incredible. So far every track has been a winner, Break Me and New To This are my favourites right now because they speak to me and I sorta wish I had written them :P but the lyrics to all of these tracks are simply brilliant and I'm sure that will continue throughout the whole album. I think this could very well be your year!

OOC: Great job with these tracks, the lyrics are some of your best yet :)

Title: Just A Fight
Length: 3:54
Genre: Pop, R&B
Recorded: Los Angeles, California
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong, Jacob Estrada
Produced by: Kieran Thomas, Sunny Monroe

Background Information
This is the first collaboration but not the only on this album. Jen teamed up with the one and only Jacob Estrada who quickly rose to fame after the release of his debut album 'Chasing Changes' which found itself climbing to #1. Armstrong and Estrada both wrote the song over a period of time and then got together to record the vocals for the track. The two first worked together on Jacob's album and now he's returning the favor by working with Jen on her album. The track is considered a break up song and the two are a couple, Jen being the one who wants to leave and Jacob being the one who wants to try to work things out. The back and forth like atmosphere of the track makes it very likeable and relatable as well. It's apparent the two have chemistry when it comes to working together and this is the first track where Jen is playing the main instrument being used, an acoustic guitar.

Description
Starting off with an acoustic guitar as well as Jen's soft vocals playing over the pop inspired beat, the melody proves to be medium tempoed and features the softer and emotional side of Jen that has really pushed her in her songwriting and music. Jen starts off the song by singing the first verse and then being joined by Jacob for the chorus. The two match each other's tones perfectly as Jen sings a little higher than Estrada does, giving an amazing harmonious effect. Jen ad libs during the break between the chorus and second verse, where Jacob takes over. His vocals also blend in perfectly with the melody. He is then joined again by Jen for the singing of the chorus where this time the two sing with more feeling and Jen with a little more R&B type of tone to her. She goes for the beginning of the Bridge where she has some 'umph' in her voice now, almost like an attitude which is followed by Jacob's almost pleading tone which also shows the chemistry between the two. They both vocalize into the chorus where Jen holds a note and then rejoins Jacob for the chorus. They both ad lib as the chorus plays in the back and then the song fades out, ending on Jacob's voice.

Quote:
"Just A Fight was an idea that started in my head. I love a good break up song, I mean who doesn't? So I wanted to do one where it wasn't like me bashing a guy really but me and the guy actually doing the song where we're like back and forth singing to one another. I wanted Jacob for this song because I really love his voice. He's extremely talented and he was perfect for this song because it was almost acoustic like and he's amazing on a guitar. I've always thought he was talented so I'm glad he agreed to do the song with me. We both just basically bounced ideas off of each other and we didn't really sit down together and write. It was a matter of emails and texting and talking over the phone so it was an different process for me but it worked. He came into the studio and recorded then the rest is just history (Laughs)."

Black - Together
Blue - Jacob Estrada

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
"It's just a name,"
That's all you've been saying
I can't help you got me feeling this way
I thought you changed, but you ain't the same
(And no it won't be just a fight)
You got a lot to prove
Your mask, I see through
I wasted time when I could've been over you
I wish you would, just tell me the truth
(And no it won't be just a fight)

[Pre-Chorus]
I let my guard down
I'm trying to get through
So what's a girl like me to do?
And I can't figure out
Who's the one that is the fool?
We both know

[Chorus]
This won't just be another fight
We won't make it right, there's nothing that could say
And we know it won't just go away
It won't be just a fight
You say
You can't be blamed
Don't matter anyway, Your heart's still miles from me
And we know it won't just go away
You know it won't be just a fight

[Verse 2]
I was wrong but don't give up
I'll do anything, anything that you want
To prove to you that I have changed
(Don't tell me it's more than just another fight)

[Pre-Chorus]
Don't want no one else
Without you here I'm going through hell
Can we just take ourselves
Somewhere far away from this, ooh

[Chorus]
This won't just be another fight
We won't make it right, there's nothing that could say
And we know it won't just go away
It won't be just a fight
You say
You can't be blamed
Don't matter anyway, Your heart's still miles from me
And we know it won't just go away
It won't be just a fight

[Bridge]
The pain's too real
For you to just blow it away
I know that I don't deserve this
(I don't deserve this)
I don't know about you
But I don't have regrets
And that's just the way it is
Ooh, yeah

This won't be just another fight
Yeah, (Oh yeah) Yeaah

[Chorus]
This won't just be another fight
We won't make it right, there's nothing that could say
And we know it won't just go away
It won't be just a fight
You say
You can't be blamed
Don't matter anyway, Your heart's still miles from me
And we know it won't just go away
It won't be just a fight

Title: Two Hearts Beat In Time
Length: 4:47
Genre: Rock
Recorded: New York City, New York
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong
Produced by: Phil N.

Background Information
Another somber song on the album, Jen finds herself singing about the pain of her brother's accident. She wrote this song 2 years ago after the accident that caused her brother's death with a guitar in hand and making the lyrics up as she continued to play. Armstrong included the song on this album because it seemed fitting for the subject at hand. She also didn't want it to be too produced so she toned down on the instruments to give it a more stripped back feeling rather than over dramatic as opposed to other singles on the album. The song was recorded at Studio60 studios with producer Phil N. as the main producer on the song.

Description
A light guitar starts off on the track before Armstrong begins to sing. Her voice is light and crisp. You can hear her pronounce every word perfectly and there's almost a sense of sadness in her voice which is possibly brought on by the subject of the song. The guitar starts to shift towards the transition from the verse to the chorus. Soon the full band joins in as she's belting out the Chorus of the song and then brings it back down when she's about to go into the second verse. The concept of the song is about recollecting the events that took place on the day of her brother's car crash. She sings in the third person, referring to herself as "she" and Max as "He" but then goes back to first person when she sings the line, 'God can you hear me as I cry out?/Can you help me, please?' and in bits of the chorus and bridge. Even though the song has more Rock influence in it, Jen still has maintained the type of Pop lyrics you would expect from her. The song talks about not letting someone go and using the metaphor that their two hearts beat in time or beat together so that one heart will not die. Jen also describes the lyrics as being "from a time in her life where she blamed God for his death but also pleaded that he bring him back."

Quote:
"It's a very....I like to say simple song because it's not like confusing and complex, it's just all right there. It took me a while to record this song because in my mind the song was just something for me. I didn't write it with the intentions of recording it actually. It wasn't like most of the songs where I was going to release them at some point, this one was, in my mind, just gonna stay in my notebook and I could just look back at it whenever I wanted to. I guess I was just hesitant at first but I think it's a great song with a lot of meaning and it works well on the album."

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
He's falling to the ground
She cannot find a way
Everything's a lie, right now
Take me to the past
And no it's not okay
Don't wanna be with you, right now
God can you hear me as I cry out?
Can you help me, please?

[Chorus]
Cus I've asked myself
Where's the love in this?
Trying to, trying to get back
Trying to hold on to mine
But he always would whisper that our
Two hearts beat in time

Yeah our hearts beat in time
Mmm, Hmm

[Verse 2]
She's trying to contain
The feelings are the same
But nobody's to blame, this time
She feels all alone
She hates going home
They'll be okay, again
God can you hear me as I cry out?
Can you help me, please?

[Chorus]
Cus I've asked myself
Where's the love in this?
Trying to, trying to get back
Trying to hold on to mine
But he always would whisper that our
Two hearts beat in time

They beat in time, Yeaah

[Bridge]
Why'd you have to away anyway?
Why'd you have to take him from me?
I can't figure out, figure out, figure out
How this is supposed to help mee-e-e

[Chorus]
Cus I've asked myself
Where's the love in this?
Trying to, trying to get back
Trying to hold on to mine
But he always would whisper that our
Two-o-o-o, Yeah our two-o-o-o
Trying to, trying to get back
Trying to hold on to mine
But he always would whisper that our
Two-o-o-o, Yeah our two-o-o-o
trying to get back
Trying to hold on to mine
But he always would whisper that our
Two-o-o-o, Yeah our two-o-o-o
Two hearts beat in time

Title: Say It To My Face (Feat. Andrea Khan)
Length: 3:41
Genre: Dance, ElectroPop
Recorded: London, England, New York City, New York
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong, Gia Rose-Hilton
Produced by: Gia Rose-Hilton

Background Information
The second collaboration song on the album, 'Say It To My Face' features the vocals of guest vocalist, Andrea Khan. It was produced by one of the biggest producers in music today, Gia Rose-Hilton who also co wrote the song. The song was mainly recorded in New York City at Studio60 Recording studio but Jen also flew to London where Andrea recorded her vocals for the song. Even though it's a dance inspired track, it features a very aggressive chorus with a sassy vibe to the track. Armstrong was inspired to record this song after seeing all of the backlash that she received after she went to rehab. Both singers lash out at people who talk about either one of them but never confront them. The song was originally going to be included only on the Deluxe Edition but Armstrong changed her mind at the last minute and included it on the regular version as well.

Description
'Say It To My Face' is an uptempo dance song that runs through a "brittle" beat influenced by electro-industrial music. The song also incorporates influences of disco music from the 80's. Armstrong's vocals are accompanied with a synthesized echo in the background. After the second singing of the chorus, the song features a breakdown that is similar to dubstep. It combines heavy electronic beats with numerous synthesizer keyboard effects but still maintains that brash and bold sound that is from Armstrong and Khan's vocals. It's an empowering song that talks about wanting to be confronted rather than talked about behind their back. Andrea's verse is sung with the same amount of feeling that Jen does. The two meet up for the chorus and then go back and forth on the Bridge after the breakdown. They wrap up the song by both vocalizing and adding harmonies to the track.

Quote:
"I really love this song because it's catchy and it's just straight to the point of how I feel. I've had, in fact both me and Andrea, have had things said about us and rumors but we've never had anyone just come up to our face and say it. People think it's something to talk about someone behind their back and I think that's a cowardly move. I'd rather that someone would say something to my face and I'd respect them more. It was just a way to express my feelings about some of the stuff happening in the industry. It's almost feeling like a warzone rather than an industry where people are supposed to come together and make music. I am one of the many people who just are tired of all of the trash talking when majority of people can't say anything off of Twitter to the actual person. It's just a really upbeat dance song that has a message in it too."

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
What'd you say?
I swear I keep on hearing my own name
It seems like everyone's got something to say
When it comes to me
You love to talk
But when I ask you, you just start to walk
Walk away from me, Yeah away from me

[Pre-Chorus]
Ohh, am I that amazing to see?
Am I everything you wanted to be?
All your whispers, they're so flattering
But honey if you've got something to say

[Chorus]
You can say it to my face
(I promise that I won't bite)
You can say it to my face
(You're not worth the fight)
You can say it to my face
(I know it's eating you alive)
So if you've got something to say
You can say it to my face
Just say it to my face

[Verse 2]
Don't walk away
You look like you've got something burnin' to say
But if you don't then don't waste my time
Because I've got a life
I did nothing to you
But apparently no matter what I do
You can't seem to stop worrying about me

[Pre-Chorus]
Ohh, you're trying so desperately
To try and see if you can bre-eak me
I must admit back then I wanted to scream
But honey if you've got something to say

[Chorus]
You can say it to my face
(I promise that I won't bite)
You can say it to my face
(You're not worth the fight)
You can say it to my face
(I know it's eating you alive)
So if you've got something to say
You can say it to my face
Just say it to my face

[Bridge]
You can say it to my face
(Ohh, Ohh)
You can say it to my face
(Ohh, Noo)
You can say it to my face

I won't let you ever get me down
This love that I'm getting, is keeping me off the ground
You can come at me with everything you've go-o-ot
But you won't

[Chorus]
Say it to my face
(I promise that I won't bite)
You can say it to my face
(You're not worth the fight)
You can say it to my face
(I know it's eating you alive)
So if you've got something to say
You can say it to my face
Just say it to my face

You can say it to my face
(Ohh, Ohh)
You can say it to my face
(Ohh, Noo)
You can say it to my face

Title: It's Okay To Not Be Okay
Length: 3:50
Genre: Pop, Pop Rock
Released: November 26th, 2012
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong
Produced by: Kieran Thomas, Sunny Monroe, Jennifer Armstrong

Background Information
After her hit single, A Smile To Remember, Armstrong continues to embark on her emotional journey being portrayed through her singles. Her new single was debuted last night while she was a special guest for Mykaylah's One Night Only concert. It was her first time performing it in front of a huge crowd but toady it's available for download. Jennifer wrote this song while she was recording her album, TWENTY-THREE which is set to be released early 2013. The song was inspired by Jennifer's own personal past. The song is described as a heavy percussion song with Jennifer's vocals coming in strong on the track. Jennifer teamed up once again with producer Kieran Thomas and Sunny Monroe. This will be the 4th single released on her upcoming album.

Description
Again starting off with a soft pulsing piano as well as her breathy and soft vocals. Singing the first verse, there is a heavy percussion following it, showcasing Armstrong's powerful vocals. The song seems to show more power over the course of the song. The lyrics suggest that one shouldn't be afraid to had down days and should embrace them. The ballad also has a tinge of rockness in it along with it's catchy pop like lyrics. Armstrong's vocal arrangements are perfectly combined with the percussion of the song, giving it a dramatic feel. It also gives the listener a sort of uplifting and emotional appeal to them. The chorus is where most of the power is held in the song as she belts out the lines, each line even better than the last. You can hear the raw, emotional talent that Jennifer possesses. The song has a simple musical structure and can be compared to that of Demi Lovato's Skyscraper with it's tone and mood of the song. The song was recorded over a period of time with very little vocal editing. Armstrong wanted to really capture the realness of the song by making sure the listener could feel her emotion.

Quote:
"This song was a really intimate song for me to write. It really speaks volumes about me and gives people an inside as to why I am the way I am. The song represents so many different things to me. Sometimes there's days where you just want to cry and stay in bed. No matter what people tell you there's no way for you to hold all that in, it all comes out at some point. I'm saying that it's fine to have those days and it's healthy. Once you get it all out, you'll feel better about yourself and then you know when to move on. It's only human to get depressed or to feel unhappy but you've got to know your limits and you've got to know that you're not perfect, the world isn't perfect and no one's happy all the time no matter what you might think. It's just a matter of knowing yourself. The song to me has helped me get through a lot of stuff. When my brother died, I thought that crying would show that I was weak, a lot of people think crying is a sign of weakness but it's not. It just shows that you have feelings and you care. I don't think I'll ever come to peace with my brother's death and there's still some days where I find myself depressed or just crying for no reason but I'm not blaming myself and saying I'm weak. It's really okay to not be okay."

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Take a minute, let it all sink in
Now it's over, you've lost your best friend
But now you don't wanna hear any comfort
Then you realize, sun is shining
You've got new eyes, that are dawning
It's not as bad as you thought that it would be

[Pre-Chorus]
Climb into bed and pull the covers
You feel it again, a distant lover
You just can't make it, try to fake it
But I'm here to say

[Chorus]
It's okay to not be okay
You don't have to pretend for another day
There's no one to impress, don't be perfect
Just do your best
Feel like pushing and shoving, to make your own way
It's okay to not be okay

[Verse 2]
Eyes are swelling, and you're dying
On the inside, no more lying
Don't you hold back to anybody, anymore
Then you realize, clouds are fading
Not alone now, still blockading
Nobody ever said that this would be easy

[Pre-Chorus]
Climb into bed and pull the covers
You feel it again, a distant lover
You just can't make it, try to fake it
But I'm here to say

[Chorus]
It's okay to not be okay
You don't have to pretend for another day
There's no one to impress, don't be perfect
Just do your best
Feel like pushing and shoving, to make your own way
It's okay to not be okay

[Bridge]
It's okay to not be okay
(Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah)
Every day is just another way
For you to heal, but you won't
If you don't understaaaaaaaaaaand, that

[Chorus]
It's okay to not be okay
You don't have to pretend for another day
There's no one to impress, don't be perfect
Just do your best
Feel like pushing and shoving, to make your own way
It's okay to not be okay

[Chorus]
It's okay to not be okay
You don't have to pretend for another day
There's no one to impress, don't be perfect
Just do your best
Feel like pushing and shoving, to make your own way
It's okay to not be okay

It's okay to not be okay
It's okay to not be okay
It's okay to not be
Okay

Title: Lock Away and Hide
Length: 4:23
Genre: Pop, R&B
Recorded: New York City, New York
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong
Produced by: Sunny Monroe, Phil N.

Background Information
Jennifer seeks influence from a classic track from the Chordettes and their hit single, 'Mr. Sandman,' as she uses them for inspiration to start off the track, and idea that Armstrong got from producer Phil N. It was then the idea of Sunny to infuse it with an urban inspired beat to create one of the catchiest songs on the album. Even though the topic is painful to Jen, the song almost presents a light side to it but she makes up for it with her vocals that bleed pain all over them. Jen wrote the song prior to her finishing up the album and just before she got out of rehab. She talks about the challenges she was presented with and the struggle of knowing who she was as a person anymore.

Description
'Lock Away and Hide' opens up with a vocal arrangement that is reminiscent to the Chordettes’ 1954 track ‘Mr. Sandman.’ Jen opens up by singing in a light and soft tone that progressively builds throughout the verse. When she reaches the Pre-Chorus, the song starts to take a turn as her vocals become more powerful and confident which leads into the belting of the chorus. Her vocals are on point, never missing a note and she transitions between breathy, pitches to full-blown wailing. You can hear the soft '(Ooh, Oohs)' being sung in the background during the singing of the verses and the 'Buh, Bah, Bum's' are heard all during the song. The beat also transitions from just a simple Pop sound to a more R&B inspired with the slow and steady tone to it. Armstrong's vocals are now taking charge so it matches evenly with the beat. Jen more than delivers on the song by blowing everyone away with her astounding vocals and emotion that she pours into the track. In the song, Jen talks about being in rehab and how ashamed and embarrassed she felt by being there. She also sings that she knew she had to go there to get better, as sung in the first verse, 'No one took me away/I decided I couldn't stay/In the same room as you/Not this way'.

Quote:
"This is one of my favorites on the album because it holds such a personal meaning to me. I wrote this song probably when I just got out of rehab. I had a ton of emotions flowing through me and the one thing that I remembered feeling at first was embarrassment. People don't know that I really lashed out at a lot of people and I felt like I lost control in my life. I was just becoming someone I didn't recognize at all and I hated it so rehab was the only solution I saw. I felt like I let my family down, I lost a lot of friends and it was a terrible time for me. When I got out, I felt a lot better about myself. I changed my life completely and in the end it benefited me because I'm still here. The song is basically about me struggling to find out who I was and how I didn't want to confront it, I just wanted to run and hide away from it but I couldn't. Sometimes you just need to face a problem head on to get better and it got better for me."

Lyrics

Buh, Bah, Bum (x16)

[Verse 1]
I don't know who I am
I'm doing things that I have said
Would never happen to me
But it's not a dream
No one took me away
I decided I couldn't stay
In the same room as you
Not this way

[Pre-Chorus]
Maybe I should, let down this wall
I won't just walk, until I can crawl
Out of this hole, that keeps devouring me
And if I do this, don't have to pretend
I know what I want, I know all my friends
Are there for me, so I don't need to run

[Chorus]
Cus that's not my true identity
On the outside I lock away and hide
The regret and sadness that never seizes
To torment me deep down inside
It takes advantage of me, oh how it teases
It teases me

[Verse 2]
I wish I could try
To be someone else for the night
Inside it's hurting me
To hear you cry
Don't want you to say
That this will always be the way
That I will live my life
I know it's not right

[Pre-Chorus]
It's just not fair, that you aren't here
To lose you like this, was my biggest fear
Tried to go back, but the damage was done
I wanna escape, no light I have found
The darkness it follows, me all around
Until I am six feet under

[Chorus]
Cus that's not my true identity
On the outside I lock away and hide
The regret and sadness that never seizes
To torment me deep down inside
It takes advantage of me, oh how it teases
It teases me

[Bridge]
People constantly thinking that I'm just
A pretty girl with a charming personality
Forever having fun, without a care in the world
Truth be told they've got the wrong kind of girl
They've got the wrong girl

[Chorus]
Cus that's not my true identity
On the outside I lock away and hide
The regret and sadness that never seizes
To torment me deep down inside
It takes advantage of me, oh how it teases
It teases me
Oh how it teases me
Ohh how it teases me
It teases me

Title: TWENTY-THREE
Length: 3:02
Genre: Pop
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, Capitol Studios
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong, Phil N.
Produced by: Phil N.

Background Information
Once again, Jennifer teams up with Phil N for another amazing Pop ballad. The last track of the album, TWENTY-THREE, which served as a dedication to her brother, closes out the album in a way that almost leaves you wanting more. Armstrong co wrote the track with Phil N, stating that she really needed someone to push her emotions out of her for this song and Phil was the one to do it. The simplicity of the song carries such a beautiful message with it. In the song, Armstrong talks about not being able to fully recover from the loss but having found peace with herself and feeling almost alleviated that she can talk about it without getting so emotional.

Description
Kicking off with a heavyhearted, melodic piano and a faint, steady drum beat, ‘TWENTY-THREE’ is quite possibly the most emotional and heartfelt track on the album. Jen's vocals are once again stunning and she almost struggles to get through the song but she somehow manages. The song is one for her brother. It goes into detail about the day she found out he died and how she felt, as well as how she feels now, singing, 'It seems that all the clocks have stopped/I think that all the clocks have stopped/And nothing seems to move/Anymore' which describes her utter shock and disbelief about the situation. Armstrong is truly a vocal powerhouse on this track, showing that she can sing sweet and softly only to later blow the roof off as she hits big, strong notes. You can hear the distinct feeling of hurt in certain areas of the song, most noticeably the chorus and bridge. She brings the song together with her vocalizations and harmonious melodies which makes for a very peaceful and somber song. It is the perfect way to end the album and does absolute justice to her late brother.

Quote:
"I struggled to sing this song because it just brought back a lot of memories about Max. I could just picture him in the studio with me as I was singing, smiling. He always smiled a lot and I knew he'd be proud of the song. It was a long process to get to the point where I'm at now and some days are still harder than others but I know Max is looking out for me. My family life is a lot stronger, my personal life is better and I just felt like relief and happiness after recording this song."

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
It seems that all the clocks have stopped
I think that all the clocks have stopped
And nothing seems to move
Anymore
I can remember all that day
The sky was clear, no sign of rain
Yet I felt it pouring from me

[Chorus]
When the cars all start to collide
I just have fear in my heart
Now the universe can heal us
But I'll never be back to start

[Verse 2]
It doesn't feel real anymore
Every day I don't see you
But I know you're smiling at me, at me
I swear I never cried so hard
You're not here but never far
Your smile's all I can see

[Chorus]
And when the cars all start to collide
I just have fear in my heart
Now the universe can heal us
But I'll never be back to start
Ooh, Ohhh ohhh
Ooh, Ohhh ohhh

[Bridge]
Yeah ohhh..yeah
I didn't understand how to feel again
When you left I swear you took
All my love with you, yeah
But I know you want me to be happy
I just didn't see how that would be possible

I can feel it pouring from me

[Chorus]
And when the cars all start to collide
I just have fear in my heart
Now the universe can heal us
But I'll never be back to start

And when the cars all start to collide
I just have fear in my heart
Now the universe can heal us
But I'll never be back to start
Oh no, no, no
But I'll never be back to start
Oh no, no, no
But I'll never be back to start
Oh hoo ohhh
Oh hoo yeah ohhh ohh ho oh oh oh
I'll never be back to start

Title:Nothing
Length: 3:11
Genre: Pop, Piano Rock
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York
Written by: Sunny Monroe, Jennifer Armstrong
Produced by: Sunny Monroe

Background Information
As the first track on the Deluxe Edition, Jennifer remains in a constant tone with the next track on the album. Mostly played by Jen on the piano, she really gives the listener a glimpse at her true feelings. This track was co-written by Sunny Monroe and Jennifer Armstrong and produced by Sunny Monroe. The track features several string instruments as well as Piano and an acoustic guitar. Armstrong sings mostly in a low tone, only hitting the high notes for the parts in between the verses and chorus. Pixie is also feature in the song as being the background singer who harmonizes with Jennifer. The song was written in a week and was ultimately chosen to be featured as a bonus track on TWENTY-THREE: Deluxe Edition.

Description
She starts off singing in a very slow voice in which she manages to emphasize each word she sings. Another voice heard in the background, presumably a back up singer, can be heard while singing in a lower key to create a harmonizing effect. She goes into the chorus with her voice still sounding almost haunting and comforting like. The music, now being made up of violins and a guitar, now join the piano. Continuing the pattern as from the singing of the first verse, Armstrong sings about giving up and feeling numb to pain. She's also singing about the feelings that some people encounter every day from various situations such as being bullied or being talked about. She sings that they eventually feel nothing anymore which can lead to other roads as well. She then goes on to sing about people being told that 'it will get better' but them not being able to hold on that long. She uses the song as a sort of inspiration to keep herself going, singing that 'But I will push on anyway/All of my days,/All of them won't be in vain' which means she won't give in to the critics and instead push herself even further. Another message used on the album as Jen continues to battle with her own image and how she's perceived in the media.

Quote:
"The song is about being able to overcome things that are thrown at your way. It's hard though, people expect others to bounce back as fast as they did and we're all different. Something that's completely harmless to you can tear another person apart. I tried to write as if I were in that position and I have been. There have been many days where I've felt like I just wanted to end it all and I was just too powerless to do anything. I believe that everyone is here for a purpose and how they choose to live is on them. There's a lot of potential in the world and people can't reach it because they don't want to live in this world anymore and it's just sad. It's sad to think we have to be afraid all the time."

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Cut me down
Don't help me up, I'll drown
As long as you're here
I cannot ever begin to
Be brave
Don't hold my hand, I'll be strong
Lessons are learned
I'll take all my bruises on my own

I can't hide here

[Chorus]
What is this feeling
That you have gave me?
Tied into knots
I can't keep on waiting
To get better
I can't feel nothing
At all

[Verse 2]
Tell myself
Words cannot hurt if I don't let
Them affect me
All of those stones can leave a mark
On my soul
But I will push on anyway
All of my days,
All of them won't be in vain

I can't hide here

[Chorus]
What is this feeling
That you have gave me?
Tied into knots
I can't keep on waiting
To get better
I can't feel nothing
At all

Every day they will say
You'll be better
But every day they'll be afraid
And they won't wait
To get better
They can feel nothing
At all

I can't hide here
We can't hide here

[Chorus]
What is this feeling
That you have gave me?
Tied into knots
I can't keep on waiting
To get better
I can't feel nothing
At all

Every day they will say
You'll be better
But every day they'll be afraid
And they won't wait
To get better
They can feel nothing
At all

Title:Trust In Me
Length: 3:22
Genre: Pop
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong, Sunny Monroe, Gia Rose-Hilton
Produced by: Gia Rose-Hilton, Jennifer Armstrong, Phil N.

Background Information
The second bonus track, Trust In Me was first written by Sunny Monroe and Gia Rose-Hilton for another artist but was given to Jennifer Armstrong. She then finished writing the song, not wanting to just receive the song without putting her own twist to it, and recorded in about 3 days time. This is one of Armstrong's vocally amazing tracks where she really delivers with her voice. Hitting all the high notes and low notes, she holds nothing back, literally belting the song out from deep inside. The song speaks about love and wanting to be able to give someone the love they deserve by telling someone to trust in her and believing she won't hurt them.

Description
The track starts off with a soft piano with the sound of Jen's voice being heard as she hums and vocalizes. She beings to sing softly with a somber voice, the beat remaining the same as in the beginning. Only does the tone change when it goes into the pre-chorus, violins being added into the mixture as it builds to the chorus. Armstrong's voice grows to be more powerful by the second. The violins are playing in a beautiful way that gives the song an added beauty to it. Soon, the song calms down and she sings the next verse in the same manner as the first. You can almost hear the persuasion in her voice as she the lines, "And you feel you can't go on, like it's something that you did/Now you don't feel all that strong, all you're feelings that you've hid/There's nothing I wouldn't do, for you to take my hand/Sometimes you wake to find, that your life won't go as planned, ooh." When the song goes into the bridge, the tempo changes and you can now hear trumpets and drums being played. Jen's voice stands out the most during this time as she holds notes and seems like she reaches her highest note on the album. The song goes back to the piano and violins as she quiets down a little, letting the song end with her last note with only the violins being heard as the song fades out.

Quote:
"Trust In Me isn't really written for anyone in particular, I just wrote it. It's for when you try to convince someone to really believe in you and show them that you're not a bad person like they think. I had the idea of when people say 'Oh all girls are the same, all guys are the same' when really that's not true. There are some genuinely good people out there and it can be hard for them to be heard sometimes. It's a love song in some ways but it's more of a message that you have to be able to trust in someone."

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I know you think we're all the same, but you're dead wrong
I know you think you've heard it all, but the day's long
So take your time to give me a chance, I'll prove that we belong (Ooh, Ooh)

I used to feel that same way too, couldn't trust a word that was said
Had to use what's in my heart, used to hear it in my head
But baby I promise you, I won't be just any girl
I can make you fall in love, have your head stuck in the sky

[Chorus]
Oh, I need for you to trust in me
There's so many things that you'd love to see
But you're blinded by all your suspicions
Just trust in me

[Verse 2]
I bet you'd love to live your life, not care all day
But you're heavy with the worry that I might start to stray
Your heart you're just not ready to give away
Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Ahh

And you feel you can't go on, like it's something that you did
Now you don't feel all that strong, all you're feelings that you've hid
There's nothing I wouldn't do, for you to take my hand
Sometimes you wake to find, that your life won't go as planned, ooh

[Chorus]
Oh, I need for you to trust in me
There's so many things that you'd love to see
But you're blinded by all your suspicions
Just trust in me

[Bridge]
I feel I can't tell you enough
Just how much that you mean to me
I'd stay when the going gets so rough
Oh, I can't read your mind
And I can't say we'll be fine
If you don't give it a tr-y-y-y

[Chorus]
Oh, I need for you to trust in me
There's so many things that you'd love to see
But you're blinded by all your suspicions
Just trust in me

Brittany: I just want to say that I am so happy for you. Honestly. You have come such a long way, went through so many hardships and now you're standing in glory. This is what pop music really needs and I think your the epitome of the future. This is an amazing album Jennifer.... it has substance, enjoyable tracks, truthful ballads, stellar lyrics and most of all a voice that could make this album possible, which is your great vocals. If this was what you had all your fans waiting for then I think they will be more intent on waiting for material like this because you've totally set the standard for young pop artists releasing albums this year. You've got my full support, as always :). Best of luck you!

OOC: Amazing job on everything! Love what you've done for Jen :')

Julia: I sincerely couldn't expect anything better than this, the album is great, your voice is so powerful and all of the songs are very approachable to people out there. it's gonna be number one for sure!

Abie: I see a lot of myself in you, your songs are just very frankly and intimate just like mine, despite we don't share the same genres, I feel like we share the same writing skills at least. I loved it!

Title:Losing Myself (Feat. Isabel)
Length: 4:02
Genre: Electropop, Pop Rock
Recorded: Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong, Isabel Merjos
Produced by: Gia Rise-Hilton

Background Information
Infused with elements of R&B, Dance, Synths, and Pop rock, Losing Myself makes for the perfect midtempo dance song that's all about being true to yourself and standing for what you believe in. The song was written by both Armstrong and Merjos, making this their second collaboration single. The best friends teamed up for this duo and was produced by none other than Gia Rose-Hilton. Meant to sound like a dance song, Gia slowed down the tempo still keeping the elements of dance in it. This track was written while Izzy first started touring on her world tour and later recorded when Izzy came back to Los Angeles for her birthday, when the two met up and spent time together in and out of the studio. The song represents a claim of independence, freedom and how adamant they are about their stance which is also stated in the song in the lines, Open my mind, now you will know/Calling the shots/That's the way it will go.

Description
Losing Myself is a hooky, midtempo anthem, which is a style that has become the singer’s specialty. The song is anchored by Armstrong’s husky, belter’s voice. It’s her voice and the undulating beat that make this song a toe-tapper from the opening note to the closing one. The organic tone of Armstrong’s voice is what prevents the song from sound too synthy or studio created. Armstong harmonizes with Merjos throughout the song and their range and the passion with which they sing really brings out the song. They hit notes with a fire in her belly, and Jennifer imparts some serious soul into these lyrics. The collaboration is the second in which these two have worked on, the first being Mirror on Isabel's album, Dancing In The Dark. They have an undeniable chemistry here and Isabel's sweet voice mixes well with Jen's strong voice. Even though Izzy doesn't have the strongest voice, she manages to make it work in this song as the two create a beautiful sound together. The song starts off with Jen and her smoky voice. As the song continues, we hear Izzy in the background, singing along with her to the chorus. Izzy then sings the next verse with a more higher and sweeter tone than Jennifer. When the two combine for the chorus again, it really ties the song together. As the bridge surfaces. Jennifer sings and then Izzy's vocals are echoing her until she sings the last line, trying to give it her all. Jen sings the first half of the chorus and they again combine to finish the song.

Quote:
"This collaboration with Izzy was pretty much perfect in my eyes. We always have this great lightning when it comes to working together I think. The song is supposed to represent being able to stay true to yourself and not compromising what you believe in. Believe it or not, some people will do anything to be famous or make it and I don't believe in that for myself. I think the best artists are the ones who can just be themselves. People think that what Izzy does is a gimmick and that's not true at all, she's literally always been this happy and energetic. She may not be this crazy party girl but that doesn't mean she can't write songs about having fun and having a good time. Sometimes it's really hard to believe in yourself and you get discouraged because you see others making it and they're acting as fake as can be. We wanted to make this song to say that in the process of making it in this industry, we won't lose ourselves at all."

Violet - Isabel
Black - Together

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Truth and love are apart of me
Living life without it, can't see
That's just how it always will be
And I won't change just for you
Being me without compromise
Not again, I won't have to hide
Every day will never be lies
I've spent so long to please your kind

Open my mind, now you will know
Calling the shots
That's the way it will go
Taking small steps
Not at one time
I will be wrong but I know that I'm

[Chorus]
I'm not losing myself
So long that I have sat, And now I'm up to bat
L-L-L-L-L-L-L-Losing myself
Won't let them run this town, I'm doing better now

[Verse 2]
No one said it would be easy
Just to be who you want to be
Everyone just wants a key
To your life, To everything inside
All locked up but you're screaming out
Don't you know they'll fill you with doubt?
Make you seem like you can't be found
I won't spend any longer to please your kind

Open my mind, now you will know
Calling the shots
That's the way it will go
Taking small steps
Not at one time
I will be wrong but I know that I'm

[Chorus]
I'm not losing myself
So long that I have sat, And now I'm up to bat
L-L-L-L-L-L-L-Losing myself
Won't let them run this town, I'm doing better now

[Bridge]
We can't be held down
For anything, We'll be around

Open my mind, now you will know
Calling the shots
That's the way it will go
Taking small steps
Not at one time
I will be wrong but I know that I'm

Open my mind, now you will know
Calling the shots
That's the way it will go
Taking small steps
Not at one time
I will be wrong but I know that I'm
(I know that I'm)

[Chorus]
I'm not losing myself
So long that I have sat, And now I'm up to bat
L-L-L-L-L-L-L-Losing myself
Won't let them run this town, I'm doing better now
I'm doing better now

Open my mind, now you will know
Calling the shots
That's the way it will go
Taking small steps
Not at one time
I will be wrong but I know that I'm
(I know that I'm)

[Chorus]
I'm not losing myself
So long that I have sat, And now I'm up to bat
(Losing my)
L-L-L-L-L-L-L-Losing myself (Losing myself)
Won't let them run this town, I'm doing better now

Title:Long Overdue
Length: 4:55
Genre: R&B, Dancepop
Recorded: Los Angeles, California
Written by: Jennifer Armstrong, Gia Rose-Hilton
Produced by: Rico Love

Background Information
Jennifer Armstrong teamed up with R&B producer Rico Love for the last track on her album. The track is described as a club hit, something that you can definitely picture being played in a club scene. Jen takes the oppurtunity to express her feelings about waiting so long to come back into the music industry but makes it playful and fun. She also collaborates with her producer, Rico, as he can be heard beat boxing and even using his vocals for the bridge along with Armstrong. The track was the last song written for the album and, respectively, the last song on the deluxe edition. It is also rumored to be her next single from the album but neither Armstrong or Love confirmed said rumor.

Description
Quite possibly the only uptempo dance song on the album, Long Overdue is the perfect way to end an emotional roller coaster of an album. The track which is produced by Rico Love who's becoming a very repetitive name on this album. The R&B dance song was inspired by Jennifer's constant fan comments about her releasing new music and a new album. This vivacious track is a hybrid of various genres that Jen herself has been inspired by, including a rockin’ guitar riff, a hip-hop backing beat and a poppy vocal performance. This sexy club banger is a surefire hit, since it makes you want to move those dancing feet and groove along. Jen starts off the song with her ever confident and strong voice with the beat bumping in the background. The energetic beat really makes you wanna dance and her lyrics are very much pop like with the simple but catchy and fun hook and chorus. She delivers with her sassiness and even manages to still have an amazing vocal ability as she shows it off during the second singing of the chorus. There's a small instrumental part where you can hear what sounds like beat boxing, from producer Rico Love, and then it kicks into the Bridge where the two of them bounce off of each other, going back and forth. She wraps up the song with her belting out the first line as the beat continues to play. At the end of the song, you can hear Jen laughing, giving it a very relaxed and fun vibe to the song as it seems Jen is enjoying performing the song. The song is about her long awaited return and how much her fans have wanted a new album and new single from the singer.

Quote:
"I couldn't have asked for a more perfect ending to this album. It really just goes to show how far I've come as a person and as an artist. I laugh more, I have a lot more fun now and life is just great for me. I'm in a good place where I can make fun songs like this. I've felt bad about taking so long with my music but the end result to me was definitely worth it. I haven't really made a lot of Pop, Dance type of songs so it was great to make a change. Most of the album was really sad and slow so I wanted the album to end on a good note. It's like my celebration song. I feel amazing, I feel like I can conquer the world right now and this album, this feeling, it was very much long overdue."

Red - Rico Love
Black - Together

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I know that you can't stand it
It's been so long since I've been heard
Now I will have you dancin'
You'll sing along to all my verses

You love it, yeah you love it
When I'm singing
Boy you're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone (Yeah)
You thought that I was finished
But you were dead wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong

[Chorus]
Don't make sense
How could I leave you, when they're playing my song?
I know you want me, need me bad
And trust me when I say it's long overdue
Yeah trust me baby, this was long overdue (Hey)
Long overdue (Hey), Long overdue (Hey)
Long over, Long over, Long overdue (Hey)
Long overdue (Hey), Long over, Long over
This was long overdue

[Verse 2]
And no it don't come easy
I'm giving you just what I feel
I hope that you are listening
Cus I will not repeat myself

You love it, yeah you love it
When I'm singing
Boy you're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone (Yeah)
You thought that I was finished
But you were dead wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong

[Chorus]
Don't make sense
How could I leave you, when they're playing my song?
I know you want me, need me bad
And trust me when I say it's long overdue
Yeah trust me baby, this was long overdue (Hey)
Long overdue (Hey), Long overdue (Hey)
Long over, Long over, Long overdue (Hey)
Long overdue (Hey), Long over, Long over
This was long overdue

[Bridge]
Throw your hands up (In the air)
Leave your problems (We don't care)
Cus now it is our time, Y-Yeah we about to shine
Throw your hands up (In the air)
Leave your problems (We don't care)
Cus now it is our time, Y-Yeah we about to shi-ine

[Chorus]
Don't make sense (Ohhhh)
How could I leave you, when they're playing my song?
I know you want me, need me bad
And trust me when I say it's long overdue
Yeah trust me baby, this was long overdue (Hey)
Long overdue (Hey), Long overdue (Hey)
Long over, Long over, Long overdue (Hey)
Long overdue (Hey), Long over, Long over
This was long overdue
