Jack's Story:

Jack had always loved to sing, and would do it all day every day. On his seventh birthday his parents bought him his first guitar. He instantly fell in love with it, and started taking lessons instantly. Jack was not a very quick learner and so was dropped by his tutor because he was so frustrating to work with. Jack's love for music didn't just die out though, even with his parents and his ex-guitar tutor doubting him. So he started to teach himself how to play, using music books and listening to the radio alot.
When Jack moved up to Secondary School, he met Isaac. They instantly became friends. Isaac had been playing the guitar since he was four years old, so he would go to Jack's house regularly and help him enhance his ability on the guitar. With Jack's love for music growing by the day his grades at school suffered. In his last year at school Jack decided to put down the guitar and try to get his grades up - but this turned out to be a very hard struggle - which he ultimately failed at. Jack's last year at school went pretty poorly in terms of results, and he didn't get high enough grades to continue into further education.
Times were starting toget rough as Jack was not in school and had to get a job. He could not get a very good job due to his poor exam results, so ended up working in a fast-food restaurant just to make ends meet. Jack's mother grew very ill when he turned 19, so Jack quit his job to try and help his mother through her hard time.
On Jack's 20th birthday his mother died, and his father went into a state of depression. After being out of work for a year, Jack found it difficult to get back into work, se he ended up going through several short term jobs such as being a waiter in a restaurant, until he eventually ended up at a music bar, being a bartender. This wasn't too bad a job for him as every friday, saturday and sunday night there was a band playing and he would get to listen to them whilst serving the customers.
One night when Jack had a night off, he went into town with his still-bestfriend Isaac. They eventually went into a bar which had an open-mic-night on. After having a couple to drink, Isaac convinced him to get up and have a go. So he sang a version of Infinte's Supernova. This absolutely bowled the whole bar over, and earned him a standing ovation. Jack regularly went back to that bar on his nights off and performed various other songs.
It wasn't untill Jack was 23 when he put the idea to Isaac about starting a band. Isaac agreed, and said he knew somebody who played the drums that he had met at college. So, Isaac brought around Freddie and gave him a couple of bits of music to play. He was obviously and experienced drummer as he smashed all of the songs and was an instant success with Jack. All they needed to do now was to find a lead guitarist, as Jack only played the bass and Isaac was quite content to only be a rhythm guitarist. The boys put out an ad in the local papers and got 4 or 5 people to come and have a go. Of them nobody impressed particularly, and the boys thought that it was a bit of lost cause - without a lead guitarist you cant really have a band! The three of them continued to jam together but didnt continue the full on band idea anymore.
One day, when they were playing in Freddies garage, there was a knock on the garage. They continued to play as they just assumed it was a neighbour fed up with the noise. The banging continued, so eventually they opened up. Stood looking into the garage was somebody that none of them had ever seen before. He introduced himself as Ollie, and asked how long the guys had been playing together for. Jack walked over to him and they had a small conversation. Jack discovered that this Ollie person had played guitar and had recently left a band for some reason. He was just what they had been looking for! A lead guitarist! He soon joined up with them, and amazed them all with his imense skill on the guitar. Jack new this guy was the missing piece.
Jack asked the guys if they had considered going for the battle of the bands competition in three weeks time. None of them even knew it was on. They practiced whenever they had a chance too, until that fateful day arrived..... (to be continued!)

Ollie's Story:

Ollie grew up in a privelidged home, and he got everything he ever wanted. So when he decided he wanted a guitar, his Dad got him one. When he decided he wanted lessons, his Dad got him the best tutor around. Ollie's tutor knew, even at eight years old that Ollie could go far if he wanted too. He just picked it up so easily.
Ollie was one of those people that could just do everything, and for that he was loved and hated. When he went to secondary school him and a couple of lads that lived close by to the school started up a band. They were all very good at what they did and were the best at what they did for there age group of anybody around.
They performed at small local gigs and did the schools spin on the battle of the bands and won it four out of the five years that they were at the school. Ollie passed all of his exams getting top marks in his music exams. This gave him two options: go to a good college (his Dad was willing to pay for the best one around), or continue with his music. He knew that going to college would probably be the end of the band - as none of his bandmates had got very good results and would not have been able to go to a college. So he chose to put off going to college and continue with his music.
At 19 years old things were still going great, and the boys were getting ready to go to the battle of the bands competition. With two days to go, Ollie tripped over a wire during a band practice session and broke his ankle. He was absolutely distraught! He was in hospital during Battle of the Bands, and was very upset about them having to miss out.
Over the next six to eight weeks the whole band had a bit of a break and did there own thing for a bit. With Ollie still recovering from his broken ankle he had to stay at home most of the time, while his band mates went out and got drunk and had a laugh.
After the break, Ollie's band did start jamming together again. Things were looking good for them and they were playing better than they had ever played before. But one day, the drummer and the Vocalist got into a bit of a bust up, and the drummer walked out on them. This put the whole band into disarray, the drummer had been the best around and nobody could replace him.
Over the course of the next year they had two or three new drummers, but nobody could replace him. Ollie, phoned him up and pleaded for him to come back. So he did, but on the condition that if the singer annoyed him once more he would be gone for good. Things started to look up again, and the band got on quite well. They had obviously missed the battle of the bands because they didnt have a drummer.
So they continued to work hard for the next big thing. After doing some gigs, they had there first big gig at the Oldham football ground. After doing a great job they were about to be offered a record deal with a big label, when the drummer fell out with the singer again. And that was it, the band was over. There was no coming back from that.
One day, Ollie was going to visit his girlfriend in Salford - on the other side of manchester - when he heard some music blaring out from a garage just down the road. He walked down to the garage and listened for a minute or two. The guys on the other side, sounded quite good - there something missing from the music, and he just wasnt quite sure what it was. Ollie knocked on the garage door. He waited... And then he knocked on it again, a bit louder. After another minute of waiting, somebody opened the garage door. Ollie introduced himself and got talking to the lead singer - Jack. They exchanged numbers and Jack told him to give him a ring any time he wanted to play with them.
Ollie soon joined up with them, and he amazes them all with his imense skill on the guitar. He felt it in himself that he was the thing that the band was missing on the day when he found them.
One day, Jack asked the guys if they had considered going for the battle of the bands competition in three weeks time. Neither of the other two guys new it was on, Ollie had completely forgotten about it, but he was up for it. He still hadnt done the battle of the bands. It was his turn! The band practiced whenever they had a chance too, until that fateful day arrived... (to be continued!)

Isaac's Story:

Isaac had been playing the guitar since he was four years old. He never really had a choice in the matter, his Dad wanted him to know how to play an instument. Isaac was one of those awkward people, that you didnt really know what to say too. His music gave him an escape from that. He would sit in his room and just play music to himself all day.
He was nine when his parent split up, his Dad moved over to Newcastle. After that he rarely saw his father, only on his birthdays or special occasions would he ever see him. It didn't take his mother long to find a new boyfriend - maybe that was the reason that his parents broke up in the first place, but Isaac never knew - and Isaac took and immediate disliking to him.
His mum and her new boyfriend married in the summer before he went up to secondary school. When Isaac went up to secondary school, he met Jack. They instantly took a liking to eachother. Another good thing was that Jack played the guitar as well, so this gave them something in common. Isaac took the opportunity to go and see Jack as much as possible, he would help him with his guitar, but not only was it good to see his friend, but it was good to get away from his new stepfather - who had recently started getting really horrible.
One day, Isaac came home from school, and he found his stepfather already there. He had had a bad day at work, and had been fired. Isaac could see by the look on his face that something bad was about to happen. Isaac's stepfather beat him that day, and it wasn't a one of thing either. His mother didn't know about it for a long time, because Isaac was so scared of what his stepfather would do to him. Luckily for Isaac, his mother arrived home early one day just in time to see the end of a beating. She immediately kicked her husband out of the house, and filed for divorce the next day. Isaac's mother never remarried because she could not live with herself if something happened to her son again.
Isaac's life started heading up again. He got some good grades at school and was allowed to go on to further education. Isaac moved out of his mums house so he could go and live on the college campus. Here he met Freddie, who only lived a couple of doors down. Isaac would go out to the local pub and Freddie would but the drinks as he was old enough to. Freddie looked out for Isaac in the year that they were both at college together. And buy the time that Freddie left, Isaac was settled and had some friends that he trusted. Isaac and Freddie never lost contact, and remained good friends.
Isaac would still go and see Jack, as they were still bestfriends. Life hadn't been good to Jack either, and he had ended up going unemployed when his mother became ill. They would go out whenever they were able to and Isaac would give Jack hand with his mum whenever he was needed.
When Isaac was 23, Jack came up to him with the idea of starting a band. He thought that it sounded like a good idea, and after clearing it with Jack he called his friend Freddie and asked if he wanted in. Freddie was an experienced drummer, and to Isaac's relief was an instant success with Jack. All that was left now was to find the leading guitarist. Isaac had been asked if he wanted to do it, but was never confident enough to step forward and be the one in the spotlight - this was probably down to his stepfather beating him when he was younger. As Isaac didn't want to be the lead guitarist they put out some adds in the papers. 4 or 5 people applied and none of them were any good, but Isaac would still have prefered one of them up there to him. The three of them decided that this band idea probably wasnt going to happen now that there isn't a lead guitarist at all.
The three of them continued to jam together and went to Freddie's house one day to play in his garage. They normally went to Freddies as he is the only one to have a drum kit - and he can very rarely be bothered to move it. So, while in his garage and jamming quite happily, there was a bang on the garage. Isaac stopped, so as to go and open the door, but Jack told him to keep playing and ignore it. So Isaac started playing again. But only for a few more minutes until the banging started again. Then Jack went and opened the garage door to find a guy standing there. He introduced himself as Ollie and it turned out that he was a guitarist. The best part was he was good at it too as he had been in a band up until recently.
One day, Jack asked the guys if they had considered doing battle of the bands in three weeks. Isaac didnt even know it was on. They agreed to do it and practiced whenever they had the chance to, until that fateful day arrived... (to be continued!)

Freddie's Story:

Freddie was always a bit of a bad boy at school. He was kicked out of his first primary school for several accounts of bullying, and only just managed to not get kicked out of the second one. At his secondary school he was calmed down a lot, his form tutor really helped him make something out of himself. If it hadnt have been for his form tutor he would have probably been kicked out of his secondary school aswell. His parents had never really been there for him, so he didnt spend a lot of time at home, they were always arguing and were probably the cause of many of his problems at school.
Freddie's schol years passed by quite quickly - and rather uneventfully after getting put with his rather helpful form tutor. He got the necessary grades to go to college. Whilst at college, he got into trouble with the police for possession of drugs - but was very fortunately let off as it was his only offence. He didn't go back home during the summer or over christmas, he just stayed in his appartment and got a job. He worked as a bouncer at a local club as he was quite a strong build and had been known to be a bit of a tough guy. This job payed pretty well and got him through some tough times. He bought himself a set of drums as it helped to relieve stress. He was a natural, you would have thought he had been playing for years.
His second year at college started, and he met Isaac. Isaac only lived a few doors down, so they made quite good friends. Freddie looked out for him during the course of that year, as Isaac had looked a bit hopeless. By the end of the year they would regularly go down to the pub together and Freddie would buy the drinks. Freddie knew that Isaac played an instument but had never really thought about playing together.
Freddie finished college and continued with his bouncer job. He really enjoyed that job and was distaught when the club closed down due to the credit crunch. This left him jobless and out of cash. So he took to the bottle.
After a year of being on the bottle he went into hospital and had to have his liver pumped. This stirred him up enough to get him to come off of the alcohol. He stopped drinking and stopped smoking and turned his life around.
One day, his old friend Isaac asked him if he was interested in being a part of a band. Isaac and another guy were already a part of this, so Freddie thought to himself that it wasnt such a bad idea. It would give him something else to put his mind onto. So Freddie went over to see Isaac and his friend Jack, he played a couple of bits for them and seemed to be an instant success with Jack. And that was the start of a new era for Freddie.
Freddie had bought a small house since leaving college - only 2 bedrooms, but it had a garage. And that was good enough for him, because it meant he had a place to put his drum kit. So one day, while the three of them were jamming in Freddie's garage, there was a knock on the garage door. Freddie assumed it was a neighbour so he just started playing louder - he didn't really get on with his neighbours so he would do whatever if it meant getting on their nerves even more. But the banging happened again a few minutes later and Jack stopped them and asked who this guy was. They seemed to click instantly to Freddie - which reminded Freddie of him and Isaac at college.
So Ollie - as he intruced himself as - started jamming with them. Freddie got on quite well with Ollie, he seemed like a pretty good guy. After a while, Jack asked the guys if the had considered going for the battle of the bands in three weeks. Nobody other than Jack seemed to know about it. They agreed to do it and practiced whenever they had the chance to, until that fateful day arrived... (to be continued!)

Battle of the Bands

The host claps off the previous band and compliments there great performance to the crowd
"Next Up..." He says clearly into the microphone; "... is Fathers of Fury!"
A roar of excitement goes through the stadium, nobody has heard of FoF but its been a good night so far so they are willing to give them a go
"Hey," Jack says, voice cracking in front of the massive crowd; "erm... Well, we are Fathers of Fury, and we are gonna perform our own version of Infinite's Blue Nebula. So here goes"
The crowd obviously loves the song, because as soon as Jack says what song FoF are playing the crowd roars even louder than before!
Jack starts singing the chorus and the crowd joins in! A huge grin appears on the whole bands faces - except Freddie - he is too busy concentrating on his drumming to listen to the audience.
The song finishes and the stands erupt again! Jack is overwhelmed with joy and cant help a little wink to a girl on the front row.

"Thank you so much," Jack says;
"Yeah, you guys have been great!" Isaac quickly states down the mic;
This then makes the crowd cheer again.
The host walks back on stage

"Well wasn't that amazing everybody?!" He exclaims down the microphone.
The audience agrees with another huge roar
"Well thank you for that great show boys,"
The boys walk off stage as the host announces the next and final act of the night

-----------------

Backstage
All four of them look at eachother and can't stop grinning;
Ollie: That was a kick ass show boys, we should be really proud of that!
Freddie: Yeah, that was awesome boys - absolutely incredible! Hey, Isaac... you alright man?
Isaac throws up all over the floor
Isaac: Never been better...
Freddie: Can we get someone to wipe this up please?
Jack: Guys, with a show like that we could win this!
Ollie: Don't get ahead of yourself mate. It was a good show but there have been some awesome performances tonight
Isaac: I think i'm gonna go ag...
Isaac throws up again
Jack: What's up?
Isaac: I was just a little bit nervous i suppose - i'm good now... i think..
Freddie: Well, you are alright now, shows over.
Ollie: Just gotta wait for the results now...

Back On Stage
"Wow, what a show tonight!" the host exclaims!
The crowd roars in agreement
"Well, the results are in... Silence in the crowd please!
In Third Place is... Excellius!"
Crowd roars
"In second place is... Either... Fathers of Fury or Michael Jones!"
Crowd goes crazy again!!
"Silence please in the crowd!
And the Winner is... Michael Jones!"
Crowd cheers, but there are more boos than cheers
"I think the crowd wanted us to win" Freddie whispers to Jack,
"Yeah, sure looks that way. Dayuum! I thought we had it."
"Well guys there is always next year - we did really good to get this far" Ollie says to the rest of the band,
"Anyway, we best go and congratulate Michael." Jack says.

OOC: Wow. Your first couple posts have been killer. A shit ton of detail and effort on just the bios. I cant wait to read more from you. I like the battle of the bands RP too. A lot of people tend to push their star right to stardom, but I like the realism here.

I was impressed by your cover of our song, I think you guys did an incredible job! It's great to see that we're influencing everyone from mainstream rock to up-and-coming bands. Don't let the loss discourage you guys; if you stick to music, I think you guys could be the beginnings of something special.
-Eric Quillington

OOC: Great job, mate! Everything from the biographies of each member to the Battle of the Bands introduced Fathers of Fury perfectly. As JaketheSnake said, it's nice to see someone start their band from the very beginning, and not immediately have them a commercial and critical success.
Kid Anything- Indie/Britpop/Shoegaze; influenced by Sigur Ros, XXYYXX, Kanye West, Blur, Oasis

(Bringing together an eclectic group of influences, Ulysses' songs are sung with carefree abandon by Nick Junk)

Kurt Ulysses - Songwriter, Guitarist, Backup Vocalist
Nick Junk - Vocals, Mojo

Infinite- Alternative/Experimental Rock; influenced by Muse, Radiohead, and The Beatles

(Known best for their experimental music and their frontman's eccentric behavior, the band disbanded after Eric Quillington's death to pursue solo careers or, in Matt Robert's case, peace of mind. Infinite released four albums over the course of their career; Blue Nebula, Midnight Skies, Insomnia, and Dancing about Architecture.)

Eric Quillington (Deceased) - Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Piano, Primary Lyricist
Matt Roberts - Bass
Greg Oldson - Drums, Backup Vocals, Secondary Lyricist
Amelia Florentine - Keyboards, Piano, Lyricist, Backup Vocals

"When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope."

OOC: wow, thanks mate, i have read a few of the other ways that some people have started out before doing my own one and i thought that this was the best way to do it. I feel that a lot of the new artists that have been created are a bit vague - and that you dont really know anything about them. Thanks again

MancMusicMag!

Searching For The Brightest New Stars In And Around Manchester!

Here is a local band who recently entered the Manchester 'Battle of the Bands'. They performed an amazing show but, unfortunately for them, finished in a very respectable second place! With this being their first major event, hopefully we will see some great things from this band!

Introducing... Fathers of Fury!

"Well hello boys," Larissa Johnson says; "it is great to finally meet you all!"
"Wow, well thank you so much! I have been reading your stuff for a long time now," Jack replies, obviously a bit excited about his first interview for a proper magazine
"Thank you Jack. Well, you guys are called Fathers of Fury, and before we get into anything else i would like to know where the idea for the name came from."
"Well, it was Freddie's idea - the only thing he has ever done for the band - haha," Jack says, quickly glancing across at Freddie and smirking.
Freddie then replies, "Well if you want i can leave? No, thats what i thought." Just by looking at Freddie's body language it is clear that he doesn't want to be here.
"Chill boys." Larissa states quickly, "Freddie, how did you come up with the idea for the name?"
"Basically, i decided that we needed something catchy - and the word Fury seems to catch peoples eye, making them look at it, also the use of the alliteration with the F's in the name helps make the name memerable. That is basically what i learned from English at school. Who said it's not helpful?"
Larissa looks impressed by his use of the English language, "So it was a well thought out plan, eh?"; she gives a quick laugh and then looks over to Isaac. "And you are Isaac, are you alright?"
Isaac - looking paler than ever - looks up and gives a small smile; "I'm alright... Just a bit nervous... This isn't really my thing... Being in the public eye..."
"Ah, I see, a bit shy? Well i'm sure you will get used to it," now looking over to Ollie, Larissa smiles. "And you must be Ollie. A very talented guitarist I have heard. Almost part of a signed band before."
"Yeah, but that is in the past, Fathers of Fury is where i want to be right now." Ollie says, looking cooler than a cucumber.
"Fair enough, so you guys came second in the Battle of the Bands. What was it like performing infront of so many people?"
"Terrifying!" Exclaims Isaac from the corner, "I thought i was going to throw up for the whole show!"
"You did throw up afterwards!" Freddie laughs, "It was disgusting" he laughs again.
"Eurgh" Larissa shudders, "Not really my cup of tea that; how did the rest of you take the show?"
"Well, I loved every second of it! It was the best experience of my life! I have never had a bigger buzz!" Jack says, having calmed down a bit from the start of the interview,"I just love performing, its what I want to do for a long time,"
Freddie leans back in his chair and simply says: "Yeah, it wasn't bad. I would definately do it again"
"I had a great time, these guys are really good to play with;" Ollie expresses a smile and continues to say; "and I have such a laugh with them while practicing"
Larissa smiles again; "It's good that you guys get along - it's the key to success really" Larissa laughs; she then goes on to say "So what to you guys intend to do now then?"
Jack looks accross at the rest of them, and then announces "We intend to continue playing and are going to record a demo and sen it into the local radio stations; such as BBC Radio Manchester, Galaxy 102, Kerrang!, and a few of the other smaller stations"
Ollie then interupts to say "We hope that this will give us exposure to a wider area and mayble will come to see us perform"
"Sounds like a pretty solid plan. Presumably you are all working at the moment, and what do you all do as a profession?"
Freddie looks down to the floor, "I'm currently unemployed, I worked as a bouncer for a while, but the club I worked at closed down."
Jack pats him on the back; "It hard being unemployed, I spent a long time like that, but I know work at a really great music bar, and have done for almost a year now"
Ollie is next to pipe up; "I currently work at my Dad's car dealership as a mechanic, and Isaac here is also unemployed - he got the exam results to do some good stuff, just no jobs have come up really"; Isaac nods, and smiles at Ollie for speaking for him.
Larissa gets up, "Well unfortunately that is all we have time for today - I wish we had longer but we don't. I can't wait to hear your demo on the local radios, as I am sure it will be played many times"
"Well thank you for having us!" Jack says, he gets up and shakes Larissa's hand and is shortly followed by the rest of the band.

And that was Fathers of Fury being interviewed by MancMusicMag!'s very own Larissa Johnson.

Until next time, that is all from Larissa Johnson!

OOC: Seriously dude, this is top notch stuff. You're already leagues ahead of what most people on this website produce; what makes this so incredible is the fact that this is your first major post. Their rise to popularity so far has been very interesting so far, especially the fact that they only came in second, it makes it all the more realistic. Congrats so far, mate! I really hope you stay, we need more people like this on the forum.

- Stephen King

Stacey: You guys appear to be really fucking talented, I can't wait to see more from you.

OOC: After the praise you've gotten already it feels pointless me just saying this was an incredible start for your band but I'll say it anyway. "This was an incredible start for your band."
