Scheduled for release in March 2011 by Shooting Star Records. The album was recorded during February and March 2011 in Los Angeles, California. It was produced by a number of big name producers including The Wolverines, Malory Evans, Danny Allen, Will.Rocca, Matty and Nadia Berry. Writing and Recording All songs on the album were written by Jennifer Armstrong with only five songs from the album written with outside help. The majority of songs were written by Jennifer in 2010 and then tweaked in the record studio in early 2011. She attended writing sessions in January 2011 in Los Angeles, California to help her understand the process of song writing and her knowledge of the song writing process was pretty minimal as she states, “I didn’t know anything about writing a song. I had written songs since I was 17 years old but their was never a base for me to follow. I essentially just wrote words and hoped it made sense, early on, there was no structure to my writing. After attending the writing sessions, it really helped me learn about the structure of song writing, how to turn words into a song. It has helped me so much.” In January 2011, Jennifer also booked herself into a rehearsal studio in Hollywood, California. During this period she worked hard on perfecting the songs, hiring a local session band to help bring the songs to life. She states that pretty much all of the songs were written without music to begin with and once she had felt like the songs were finished she decided to put the music to the lyrics, “I had a clear idea of what the music would sound like in my head. But getting that sound proved tougher than I imagined but everything came together when I rehearsed the songs in the rehearsal studios and I felt like they were ready to be recorded.” She began recording the songs at the beginning of February 2011 and expects the recording to be completed sometime in March 2011. She has also enlisted the help of various people to work on the album including, Malory Evans, Will.Rocca, Nadia Berry, Dan Richerds, Danny Allen, Matty and The Wolverines. The opening two songs were removed from the album and replaced during the recording process, those two songs were called, Heart Shaped Boxes and I'm Superhuman. During the recording of the album, media attention was put on Jennifer with photographers following her to and from the studio often causing public outbursts by the singer as she struggled to deal with the attention. Influences for the record vary, including, Saburban Sunrise, Fathers Of Fury, GirlSpice, PANIC!, Ryan Ross Hernandez, Alicia Lena, Brittany Knox and Michelle Green. Promotion and Release The album title ‘Scarlett Fever’ was confirmed in February 2011, the Tracklisting and album cover were announced at the same time as the album‘s title. It has all the elements of a straightforward pop song, but with a heavy music backdrop, the guitars, drums and bass are all heavy enough for people to consider the song a rock song. It’s a song about how no matter how different you may appear to be, We’re All Really Just The Same. You may look different, you may have a different view on the world and everything but essentially we’re all just the same. If It‘s Just Me It’s a song about a girl being cheated on by her boyfriend, she finds out despite how much he may lie. It’s another pop song with a less polished sound, it’s a little more raw and scratchy but it’s got a pretty good rhythm to it. I don’t really know the whole technicalities of song writing, I just generally write and hope that it resembles a song. I know that may not be a very good way to write a song but it seems to work. O-M-G It’s just a funky little pop song. It’s not breaking any new ground, it’s the kind of song that may be more likely to appear on a young girls ipod. It’s a song that you could maybe expect to hear from pop stars like Britney Spears, it’s cute and it’s smiley and it’s the kind of song we all secretly enjoy even though we may be a little embarrassed to admit it. It was producer by someone I really really admire, Nadia Berry, I was so amazed when she agreed to come into the studio to help. I was totally in awe and I think this song has that GirlSpice feel to it, which is awesome. Business Class (Feat. Dan Richerds) It’s another song that’s a mix between pop and rock. I wanted Dan to play guitar on the song because I think he’s so much better than people seem to think. I think he brings this amazing sort of theatrical style, I dunno how he does it but he can make sounds with a guitar that I’ve never even thought of. It was good to have him in the studio and on the song because it gave it a little bit more power and It definitely enhanced the song. It will be the second single from the album. Special Kinda Princess This is another pop song that Nadia produced. Again it has a GirlSpice kinda sound to it, which is what I wanted. I’m not trying to copy them, but to work so closely with Nadia was a real honour. She was professional when she needed to be and she was fun when she needed to be, she really helped nurture this song and it’s definitely better due to her work on it. I‘ma Freak This is the final song produced by Nadia. Again, it’s the kind of song you could maybe be used to hearing on the radio. Some people may dislike it but it’s the kind of music I like and the kind of music I want to be able to make. I love how these songs have turned out and that’s all that really matters, I think my fans will enjoy it and my critics may hate it. But I’m more bothered about my fans being happy with it than the latter. It’s a song, kind of about me. It’s such a cool and funky kinda song. I love it. Be My Flame This is a straight up love song. It has a pop-rock sound to it, loud vocals and great instrumental work. It’s heavily influenced by pop-rock bands like PANIC!, Fathers Of Fury and Suburban Sunrise. It’s a song about finding a guy to ignite that kind of passion in your life, that feeling when the phone rings and you know it’s your guy and your heart is like jumping up and down like crazy with excitement. We all need that and that’s what this song is about. Scarlett Fever It’s not a song about the actual disease. It’s a play on my name, my middle name is Scarlett and that’s where the title comes from. It’s an upbeat song, it was produced by Matty, it doesn’t have an urban sound with it but it has a more dance kinda feel to it, it’s the kind of song that you could maybe hear in clubs on the strip. It’s a good song to dance to, it’s upbeat and funky. It’s pretty different from the other songs on the album, but I thought I should have a little bit more of a mix on the album. Bring Out The Animal This is the second track produced by Matty. It’s animalistic and it’s about kind of just going crazy. I love that element to music, I think Cherise is maybe the best at writing these kind of songs and that’s kind of the mould that the song is in. It’s still a pop song but this one is with a difference, it’s a little more sexy and a little more in your face than the previous songs. Queen Bee Queen Bee is an upbeat pop song about becoming famous. It’s got a catchy chorus and strong dance influences which are a major part of the song. It may not be a song with very much depth but it’s a great little pop song. It’s not gonna break any new ground but it’s a fun little song about becoming famous and it’s chorus could easily get stuck in your head with ease. It’s my debut single and I hope that people like it. I wrote the song without any outside help at all and I think it’s important to at least attempt to write your own song. Freaky Little Loverz This is a completely different song from all the others. It’s a song about two young lovers with a passion for danger, they get into all kinds of scrapes and adventures, it’s a really cool song. Although it’s not just another pop song. It’s got this huge dance sound on it, it’s funky and it’s got a very cool Latin kind of feel but with a European dance element. Will.Rocca produced the song and he brought in all kinds of crazy ideas to make it come to life. I think people could be very surprised with it. I‘ll Be Ur Geek This is almost like following on from Freaky Little Loverz, it keeps that awesome dance sound, but with a more rock feel to it. I’d say it was more Dance-Rock than pop-rock. It has elements of all kinds of genre’s and I don’t think it could fit into just one. It’s a kinda light hearted song, about a geeky girl and a geeky guy who fall in love. It’s pretty cute and I think it can put a smile on people’s faces.
